Academy Award-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss has signed with APA.
Jerrod Harris/Getty ImagesRichard Dreyfuss has signed on to star opposite Patrick Wilson and Lena Headey in the indie political drama Zipper.
Darren Aronofsky‘s Protozoa Pictures is producing the film, which currently is shooting in Baton Rouge, La. Mora Stephens is directing from a screenplay he co-wrote with Joel Viertel.
In a story that echoes the real-life scandals of former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer and former U.S. Rep. Anthony Weiner, Zipper centers on the life of Sam Ellis (Wilson), a successful family man who presumably has it all until he risks losing everything due to his inability to fight off his obsessive lust for other women. Dreyfuss will play the role of political operator and kingmaker George Hiller.

Dreyfuss recently appeared in Paranoia opposite Gary Oldman, Liam Hemsworth and Harrison Ford. He also co-starred opposite Ellen Barkin and Dakota Fanning in Very Good Girls, which debuted at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival. Other recent credits include Joel David Moore‘s directorial debut, Killing Winston Jones, opposite Danny Glover.
Dreyfuss, who recently finished shooting Squatters opposite Luke Grimes, was honored in December at the Whistler Film Festival for the indie feature Cas & Dylan.
