Actress Stacy Martin poses for photographers in trendy stripped top and slouchy yellow pants on the red carpet for the film Nymphomaniac at the International Film Festival Berlinale in Berlin, Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014.
Stacy Martin, the young English actress who stars in Lars von Trier‘s erotic epic Nymphomaniac, has signed on to star in Taj Mahal, a high-concept thriller set during the 2008 terrorist attacks in Mumbai, India.
French screenwriter Nicolas Saada (Sleepless Night) will write and helm the project.
The film takes place on one fateful night when terrorists seized Mumbai’s Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, taking the guests hostage. In the real Taj Mahal attacks, 164 people were killed and more than 300 injured.
The movie will shoot in French and English and will feature an international cast including Italy’s Alba Rohrwacher (The Wonders), French actor Louis-Do de Lencquesaing (Superstar) and British actress Gina McKee (Jimmy P.).
BAC Films is handling international sales and is pre-selling the title in Toronto. Patrick Sobelman of Agat Films is producing the $10 million project, with Paris-based Backup Media financing. The movie is set to begin shooting next month for an expected delivery in spring 2015.
Sleepless Night, which Frederic Jardin directed from Saada’s script, and which screened at the Toronto Film Festival in 2011, is being remade by Warner Bros. for the U.S. market.
Martin, who next appears alongside Salma Hayek and John C. Reilly in Matteo Garrone’s The Tale of Tales, is repped by UTA.
