World Wrestling Entertainment announced its WWE Network subscription streaming service had 1.23 million paid subs for the third quarter, ended Sept. 30. The tally represented a 73% increase from the previous-year period. WWE Network ($9.99 monthly) was launched Feb. 24, 2014, utilizing technology from Major League Baseball Advanced Media, which also powers HBO Now and WatchESPN, among other digital properties.

WWE Network generated $40.2 million in operating income on revenue of $145.8 million. The service has premiered more than 85 hours of original content, including “Beast in the East,” “NXT Takeover: Brooklyn,” “Swerved” and “Stone Cold Podcast.”

WWE said its YouTube content was the most-viewed channel on the Google-owned social media site in August, ranking above other channels such as BuzzFeed and Taylor Swift; WWE content (on and off-channel) garnered close to 7 billion views on a trailing 12 month basis.

Meanwhile, WWE discs continue to sell at retail, including WWE: Night of Champions 2015, WWE: SummerSlam 2015, WWE: Battleground, WWE: Payback, WWE: Money in the Bank and WWE: Fast Lane 2015, among others.

“Over the next year, we expect to leverage our brand and content initiatives to further enhance engagement, promote network subscription, and maximize our long-term earnings growth,” CEO Vince McMahon said in a statement.
