The August box office is looking Lively with Sony’s drama “It Ends With Us” scoring a spectacular opening day of $24 million from 3,611 locations across Friday and preview screenings. The adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s 2016 bestselling novel is now looking at even higher projections north of $45 million across the three-day frame — a fantastic start for a drama with a mere $25 million production budget, well below the spend of the typical studio summer tentpole.
The popularity of Hoover’s novel on TikTok and marketing’s slant toward female audiences led many analysts to believe that “It Ends With Us” could come in well above earlier tracking. The film now seems primed for a second place opening through the weekend, coming in close to the third outing Marvel’s mega-hit “Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring Blake Lively’s spouse Ryan Reynolds. “It Ends With Us” was the top grosser on its opening day,...

It’s almost time to build a snowman…for the third time.
Disney’s “Frozen 3” is set for a 2027 release and aim to answer unanswered questions.
Disney’s chief creative officer Jennifer Lee concluded the Disney Animation announcements, unveiling visual development art from musical “Frozen 3.” Created by Britney Lee, it shows Elsa on a white horse and Anna on a brown stag.
Lee wrote and co-directed with Chris Buck the best animated feature Oscar winner “Frozen,” as well as “Frozen II,” which were set around the fictional kingdom of Arendelle and featured a voice cast led by Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Jonathan Groff as Kristoff and Josh Gad as the sentient snowman Olaf.

Din Djarin and Baby Yoda are returning to a galaxy far, far away.
At D23 in Anaheim on Friday, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni unveiled a first look at the upcoming “Star Wars” feature, “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” starring Pedro Pascal as the titular masked bounty hunter from the Disney+ series and his adorable sidekick Grogu.
Favreau promised an “all-new adventure following these two characters.”
The D23 crowd cheered as Babu Frick popped up flying a small ship with Grogu and went wild as the purple alien said “good luck.”
The film is the first big screen spinoff from Disney+ series “The Mandalorian,” with Favreau, who created the show, set to direct the feature. The series takes place after the fall of the Galactic Empire in “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi,” where a lone mercenary (a Mandalorian from the planet Mandalore) makes his way through the outer reaches of the lawless galaxy.

After hitting the red carpets in support of her husband Ryan Reynolds’ “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Blake Lively is finally back on the big screen with Sony’s “It Ends With Us,” an adaptation of author Colleen Hoover’s popular romance novel.
“It Ends With Us” has made $7 million at the box office in Thursday previews. It’s projected to make between $25 million and $35 million, though some estimates put it even higher at $40 million to $50 million. Fans of the book, which blew up in popularity on TikTok in recent years, could turn out in higher droves than expected. Female audiences in particular could drive up ticket sales, and it’s possible the Friday opening of “It Ends With Us” even beats “Deadpool & Wolverine” for that day.
However, the Marvel blockbuster is expected to conquer the box office for the third straight week and add $47 million to $50 million. The record-breaking, R-rated MCU film,...

The latest movie in the “Mad Max” franchise will soon be ready to watch at home. “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” is coming to Max on August 16.
“Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” debuted in May at the 77th annual Cannes Film Festival and received a seven-minute standing ovation there. After coming to theaters it earned a 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it wasn’t as successful at the global box office and earned $172.8 million against a budget of $168 million.
The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa, who was played by Charlize Theron in “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and Chris Hemsworth. The film’s plot synopsis reads, “Snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers, young Furiosa falls into the hands of a great biker horde led by the warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel, presided over by the Immortan Joe. As the two tyrants fight for dominance,...

The handoff of the Summer Olympic Games from Paris to Los Angeles just got a lot louder. Performances by Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and the Red Hot Chili Peppers are expected to be featured in the Closing Ceremony of the Paris games on Sunday, multiple sources told Variety.
All three artists will be seen from Los Angeles in a mix of pre-taped and live performances. Producer Ben Winston, who is no stranger to live music events as the producer of the Grammy Awards and CBS’ 2021 “Adele: One Night Only” special, is coordinating with French producers of the Closing Ceremony.
Tensions are high around live music events this week after authorities in Austria thwarted a terrorist attack plot during Taylor Swift’s planned three-night stand in Vienna with her “The Eras Tour.” Two high-ranking Individuals familiar with the planning for the surprise L.A. concert stunt said security and crowd control...

M. Night Shyamalan is no stranger to high-concept thrillers. His latest film, Trap, takes a Silence of the Lambs-inspired approach at an unlikely location: a packed concert by pop star Lady Raven (played by the director’s daughter, Saleka). Cooper (Josh Hartnett) is a seemingly normal suburban dad who takes his daughter to see her favorite artist. While striking up a conversation with a venue vendor, he finds out that the show is actually a trap: the FBI has a plan to catch a serial killer called “The Butcher” after learning he would be in attendance. But, as revealed in the trailer, Cooper is The Butcher and has to find a way to escape.
While the plot may sound outlandish, it’s partially based on a true story. Shyamalan shared that Trap took inspiration from the real-life Operation Flagship. “I heard about it when I was a kid and I thought it was totally absurdist,...

“Catfish” host Nēv Schulman said he is “lucky to be here, alive” following an accident on Monday. “I broke my neck,” he wrote as part of a lengthy post on Instagram, going on to explain the specifics — and how close he came to paralysis. “C5 and C6 to be exact. Stable fractures. I’m not paralyzed. My hands were a question mark there for a minute but the human body is incredible and so are Humans.” But he’s expected to make a full recovery.
Schulman included a trigger warning at the beginning of his carousel of photos on Instagram. The message cautioned, “The following slides contain images of medical trauma and severe injury.”
The photos that followed included a voicemail transcription from his son’s teacher, a photo of Schulman in a neck brace lying in a hospital bed, an X-ray of his neck, the scar on the back...

Nev Schulman said he’s “lucky” to be alive after revealing he broke his neck in a crash involving his bike and a truck on Monday.
The Catfish: The TV Show host took to Instagram on Saturday to share that he was headed to pick up his son from school when the accident happened.
“I never made it to pick up my son from school on the bike,” he wrote in the post’s caption. “In fact in some ways, I’m glad I didn’t. I was alone on impact. Me and the truck. And then I guess the pavement. I was alone and unconscious. And then conscious. Maybe I was fine (I wasn’t). Maybe I can still do my long run on Thursday (I couldn’t).”
Schulman added that he’s thankfully “not paralyzed” and suffered stable fractures in his neck. “I broke my neck. C5 and C6 to be exact.

NBC’s Olympic sportscaster Mike Tirico apologized Saturday after he mistakenly said that French basketball player Mathias Lessort had wrapped himself in Palestine’s flag during the medal ceremony, following the country’s loss to the United States. Lessort instead had carried the flag of Martinique, the French territory where he was born.
“You saw with Lessort, one of the back centers, with the Palestine flag draped over his shoulders,” Tirico said on-air. “We are certainly conscious of any displays regarding the Middle East conflict from athletes involved in these games.”
Though the two flags have similar colors, they are distinctive in design. Prior to joining his current team Panathinaikos B.C., Lessort played for the Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Social media reactions to Tirico’s faux pas were swift. Sports host Jon Root wrote, “NBC #Olympics announcer, Mike Tirico, said this was a Palestine flag being displayed by French Olympic basketball player,...

Jamie Lee Curtis was awarded with an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts by the American Film Institute at the conservatory‘s commencement ceremony. The Oscar winner was the keynote speaker at the event, held Aug. 10. at the Tcl Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.
“If you look at the paper, I’m not supposed to be here,” Curtis stated as began her speech. “I am the underachiever who just was awarded this incredible honor.”
Curtis’ resume would beg to differ: the actor, who won an Oscar in 2023 for her role in “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” has built an extensive filmography that includes the “Halloween” movies, “Freaky Friday,” “Knives Out,” “Trading Places,” “My Girl,” “A Fish Called Wanda” and “True Lies,” plus television credits like “Scream Queens” and “Anything But Love.”
“I am, for you graduates, the representation of the underachiever who has achieved,” Curtis continued. “I am an artist, I can say it to you today.

U.S. gymnast Jordan Chiles may have to return the bronze medal she won at the 2024 Paris Olympics after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) ruled in favor of an appeal filed by the Romanian gymnastics team.

The fans, including those in the 8,000 seats on the square and more in various spots around it, gave the star of films like Panthaan, Don 2 and Om Shanti Om a rousing ovation and thunderous applause. Even when the big movie screen in the square first showed him arriving on the red carpet around 9:20 p.m. local time and shaking hands with Locarno artistic director Giona A. Nazzaro, a roar went through the crowd.

Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan added another accolade to his illustrious career at the 77th Locarno Film Festival, where he was presented with a career achievement honor on Saturday. The superstar, known for his wit as much as his on-screen performances, delivered an acceptance speech that blended heartfelt reflections on cinema with his trademark humor.
Addressing the packed 8000-strong crowd in Locarno’s Piazza Grande, Khan began by acknowledging the warm reception he received. “Thank you all for welcoming me with such wide arms – wider than the ones I do on screen,” he quipped, referencing his famous open-armed pose.
The actor, affectionately known by his initials Srk or King Khan to his fans, went on to praise the festival’s location. “It’s a very beautiful, very cultural, very artistic, and extremely hot city of Locarno,” he remarked, adding with a grin, “So many people stuffed up in a little square and so hot.

A little over a year after landing her first Oscar, and a month after earning her second-ever Emmy nomination for her role in The Bear, Jamie Lee Curtis can now add “doctor” to her long list of accomplishments.
The star was presented with an honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts by the American Film Institute at the film school’s class of 2024 commencement ceremony on Saturday. Halloween director John Carpenter was on hand to present her with the honor, noting, “We did Halloween, and it made all of us famous, but Jamie Lee especially. She became the queen of horror movies; I’m not sure she wanted that. I’ve watched Jamie’s career through the years and watched her grow as an actress, and finally, finally, she won an Academy Award — and rightfully so. She is an amazing talent.”

Celine Dion denounced Donald Trump and J.D. Vance for using her song, “My Heart Will Go On,” at a rally in Montana on Friday.
Her management team released a statement on behalf of the artist and her record label for the use of the Titanic hit.
“Today, Celine Dion’s management team and her record label, Sony Music Entertainment Canada Inc., became aware of the unauthorized usage of the video, recording, musical performance, and likeness of Celine Dion singing “My Heart Will Go On” at a Donald Trump / Jd Vance campaign rally in Montana,” her official X (formerly Twitter) account posted.
The statement continued, “In no way is this use authorized, and Celine Dion does not endorse this or any similar use. …And really, That song?”

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers for “Good One,” in theaters now.
From first-time feature director India Donaldson, “Good One” is a breezy dramedy about three people on a backpacking trip. Until, suddenly, it isn’t.
Lily Collias, in her second feature role, plays the 17-year-old Sam, who goes camping with her dad, Chris (James Le Gros), and his bumbling friend Matt (Danny McCarthy). After her dad goes to bed, Sam has a heart-to-heart with Matt, who is going through a divorce, in a 13-minute campfire scene that culminates with Matt suggesting that Sam come into his tent to keep him warm.
It’s a disturbing and crafty twist an hour into the film, a moment of profound betrayal that paints a quietly world-shattering revelation all over Collias’ face. What follows is an exploration of familial trust, flawed parents and the bounds of forgiveness.

When the script for “The Supremes at Earl’s All-You-Can-Eat” landed on Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor’s desk, she jumped at the opportunity to star in the historical drama. Despite a three-decade-long career, it’s a rarity for Ellis-Taylor to find herself cast in projects that pass the Bechdel test. “The Supremes,” which debuted at the Martha’s Vineyard African American Film Festival (Mvaff) on Wednesday night, is based on the best-selling novel by Edward Kelsey Moore. Directed by Tina Mabry, the film offered Ellis-Taylor and her castmates, Sanaa Lathan and Uzo Aduba, the chance to participate in something rarely seen on screen.
“There is a lack of curiosity about Black women, about the lives of Black women. A lack of interest, and a lack of care,” Ellis-Taylor says, sitting down with Variety at the festival. “[The Supremes]” is a rebellion against that.”

Spoiler alert: This column contains mild spoilers for the “Borderlands” film and game series.
On paper, the wildly popular “Borderlands” game series is the perfect fodder for the big screen: Ragtag bunch of space outlaws? Check. Potty humor to punctuate intense action? Check. A lovable (and a little annoying) robot sidekick? Check!
So how did Lionsgate’s film adaptation, helmed by Eli Roth, fumble the bag so badly?
It’s a dud movie by any standard: “Borderlands” holds a meager 5% fresh rating from critics on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, while Variety‘s chief film critic lambasted the predictable plot, writing, “As the film goes on, it’s increasingly clear where things are headed. By the time ‘Borderlands’ unlocks its vault, not even the characters seem to care what’s inside.”
But of everyone who wastes 102 minutes on this middling “Guardians of the Galaxy” knockoff, there’s one group bound to...

Sorry, Anna and Jake shippers. It appears the beloved character played by Chad Michael Murray in Freaky Friday is not married to Lindsay Lohan’s Anna in the upcoming sequel, Freakier Friday.
In a conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Lohan and her onscreen mother, Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis), revealed that Anna is married to Manny Jacinto‘s character, whose name hasn’t been revealed yet.
“Manny plays Lindsay’s husband. But that’s like as much as we can say,” Curtis told the publication, sharing that they’re still in the middle of shooting. “Manny is lovely. So funny,” Lohan added of her onscreen love interest.
When Disney revealed that Murray would be returning to play Jake in the Freaky Friday sequel, fans were filled with excitement, hoping that they’d get to see Lohan and Murray’s characters together 20 years after the original film.

Producer Christine Vachon shared her frustrations following star Joaquin Phoenix dropping out of filming on Todd Haynes’ untitled explicit gay romance film just five days before shooting was set to begin, but defended her production company for casting Phoenix since he’s the one who brought the project to them.
Vachon confirmed the news of Phoenix dropping out in a Facebook post that has since been made private, sharing the original article about what happened from IndieWire and writing, “A version of this did happen. It has been a nightmare. If I haven’t been in touch or returned your call– this is why.”
She followed by defending her production company, Killer Films, for casting Phoenix in the role despite him being a straight actor.

“What. Is. Bohemia?“
A sharply dressed crowd assembled in the La Playa Hotel‘s Pacific Ballroom in Carmel chanted this refrain in unison, led by an ensemble of actors from the Iama Theatre Company this past winter. Among the more than 250 attendees gathered for the celebratory weekend to mark the grand reopening of the historic venue were Lewis Pullman, Patrick J. Adams, actor Guillermo Diaz and writer/podcaster Evan Ross Katz. Scandal‘s Katie Lowes and The Bear and Never Have I Ever‘s Adam Shapiro beamed from the audience as they watched fellow thespians from the Atwater Village-based theater they co-founded perform the prologue of The Last Bohemian, a one-night, site-specific immersive play directed by Eli Gonda and commissioned for the occasion by hotelier John Grossman of Marc & Rose Hospitality.
Playwright Christian Durso’s story — set in 1907 and inspired by Carmel’s unorthodox creative legacy — proceeded to unfold throughout the property.

Australian breakdancer Rachael Gunn has caused quite a stir on social media after her performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Breaking, more commonly known as breakdancing, made its debut as an Olympic sport on Friday. The competition consists of two gender-based events, with 16 B-boys and 16 B-girls vying for the gold.
Gunn — who competes under the name Raygun — went viral online after her performance Friday in the round-robin stage of the women’s breaking competition, where she was swept out without earning a single point. The 36-year-old sparked dozens of memes and drew criticism from viewers for her unconventional moves while competing against the U.

I Hope My Husband Cha-Cha-Cheats
Dear Remy,
Earlier this year, my husband got that call every celebrity dreams of.
No – not to be the next James Bond, headline the Super Bowl, or sing with Elmo on Sesame Street.
He was asked to be on Dancing with the Stars.
Naturally, he is super psyched about this. He has had DWTS on his vision board for years and is hoping it might bring him better acting roles. Plus, he started his career performing on cruise liners and has often talked of how he misses dressing in lycra on the daily.
The twist is: I hope he cheats on me with his dance partner. Our friends have teased me that he may run off with his gorgeous co-star. And the tabloids have gleefully rubbed their hands together printing articles about how any spouse of a DWTS contestant should worry about them staying faithful.

Dissident Iranian auteur Mohammad Rasoulof in May escaped to Europe after receiving a jail and flogging sentence from the country’s authorities for making his latest film “The Seed of the Sacred Fig” that won the Special Jury prize at Cannes.
He is now traveling to Locarno to screen his powerful drama – about an investigating judge in the Revolutionary Court in Tehran who grapples with mistrust and paranoia as anti-government protests intensify and his family life is devastated – on the Swiss fest’s 8,000-seat Piazza Grande.
Rasoulof took questions from Variety about adjusting to life in Europe and how he currently sees his country from the outside.
You recently left Iran with a heavy heart. How have you adjusted to living in Europe (I believe in Germany)?
For many years, my focus was on living in Iran. I wanted to tell stories in my films that were necessary to tell from the heart of Iran.

Stephen Curry couldn’t have done better PR for his first TV show than his performance Thursday at the Paris Olympics. The four-time NBA champion put up 36 points, shooting nearly 70% from three-point range, to propel Team U.S.A. to a comeback win that has sent them to a gold medal match against France. Even sweeter for his collaborators on “Mr. Throwback,” the game occurred on the comedy series’ launch day on Peacock, which has been streaming wall-to-wall coverage of the Olympics.

Rapper Travis Scott has been released from jail with no changes after being taken into custody earlier this week for an alleged attack on a security guard at the five-star George V hotel on Friday morning.
Sources close to the cast told The Hollywood Reporter that there are no plans for him to be charged in the future and there were no injuries to any party, including Scott’s security. The rapper had been swarmed by fans and paparazzi all week while he was in Paris, and he blamed his bodyguard for not adequately protecting him.
In several videos on social media, Scott was seen pleading with police to help him with the paparazzi and fans. Instead, the officers overreacted, arrested and held him for 24 hours over a verbal argument, the sources said. No violence occurred.

This is probably a fun weekend for Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. The married actors have two films in a tighter-than-expected race for No. 1 at the box office, as Sony/Wayfarer’s complex romance “It Ends With Us” is giving Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” a run for its money.
Reynolds’ historically successful “Deadpool & Wolverine” currently has the edge in its third weekend with an industry estimated $54.5 million, as it will likely be announced on Sunday that the R-rated Marvel Cinematic Universe entry has joined “Joker” as the second film with that rating to reach $1 billion worldwide, with $494 million coming from North America.
But right behind this weekend is Lively’s “It Ends With Us,” which is drawing in fans of Colleen Hoover’s dramatic novel — mostly women — to the tune of a $49.5 million opening weekend from 3,611 theaters. That includes a $24 million Friday that, even without the $7 million from Thursday previews,...

It’s a happy morning at the Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds household no matter which way you slice and dice it, with separate movies from the couple providing their very own Barbenheimer movement.
Sony’s new female-powered It Ends With Us, starring and produced by Lively, topped reigning champ Deadpool & Wolverine on Friday with a stellar $24 million, including $11 million in previews. Marvel Studios and Disney’s Deadpool movie — from Reynolds and director Shawn Levy — took in $15.7 million on its third Friday.
Most are predicting that Deadpool will pull ahead on Saturday and stay atop the domestic chart for its third consecutive weekend with $50 million to $56 million as it jumps the $1 billion mark worldwide.
Opening weekend estimates for It Ends With Us vary wildly, or anywhere from $47 million to $50 million. Sony insiders are suggesting $45 million to $49 million, a sensational number that would mark Lively’s biggest opening in a leading role.

The film now seems primed for a second place opening through the weekend, coming in close to the third outing of Marvel’s mega-hit “Deadpool & Wolverine,” starring Blake Lively’s spouse Ryan Reynolds. “It Ends With Us” was the top grosser on its opening day,...

Even before Justin Baldoni finished reading Colleen Hoover’s book It Ends With Us, he knew it was an important story that needed to be adapted for the big screen.
Baldoni says he was instantly “moved by Lily’s bravery and what she had to overcome,” and that he wanted to team up with Hoover to develop the novel as a movie via his Wayfarer Studios shingle. And once he learned the wide-spread impact the story had among women, as well as the book becoming a TikTok sensation, it only confirmed Baldoni’s instincts.
“So often in our industry, we’re told we’re not curing cancer, we’re not saving lives, just making art, just making movies. To that I say, well, I wonder if we’re making the right movies then,” The director and star tells The Hollywood Reporter. “And that’s what we want to do differently at Wayfarer.

To say that Lithuanian filmmaker Laurynas Bareiša’s debut feature Pilgrims was a success is an understatement. First, the crime drama won the Horizons section award for best film at the Venice Film Festival 2021. Then, it became Lithuania’s entry for the best international feature film race.
The set-up for the film is simple: A woman travels to a small town with the brother of her ex-boyfriend who was killed there in a violent tragedy. The two retrace his steps to try and unravel the circumstances of his death. But there is more going on than first meets the eye.
On Saturday afternoon, Bareiša world premiered his sophomore feature in the Locarno Film Festival‘s international competition lineup, for which a jury led by Jessica Hausner will decide the awards. He handled writing, directing, and cinematography duties on the movie, which was also produced by his production firm Afterschool.

Before NBC went to Paris, NBC went to Paris.
Paris Hilton isn’t the first person that comes to mind when it comes to lining up talent to promote a sports property like the 2024 Summer Olympics, held in Paris, France. The multi-hyphenate entrepreneur has been known, over a number of swirling cycles, for reality shows; an attempt at starting a music career; and launching sundry products. But marketing executives at NBCUniversal couldn’t resist tapping her for one of the most unusual promotional efforts in the company’s history.

Bérénice Bejo (The Artist) plays a Guatemalan rebel fighting against the military dictatorship in Mexico 86 from Guatemalan director César Díaz (Our Mothers), whose world premiere on the Swiss town’s Piazza Grande is among the highlights of the Locarno Film Festival schedule on Saturday.
“1976. Death threats force Maria, a Guatemalan rebel activist fighting against the corrupt military dictatorship, to flee to Mexico, leaving behind her son,” a plot description explains. “10 years later, when he comes to live with her, she is forced to choose between her duties as a mother and continuing her revolutionary activism.”
The film’s title refers to the 1986 soccer World Cup in Mexico, even though it is only briefly referred to in a few scenes.
During a Locarno press conference for the film on Saturday, Bejo shared how making the film helped her better understand her family history and her parents who left Argentina under the dictatorship to settle in France.

“We have a great cast and a script written by British writer Ian Wilson. Her husband, Dennis Troper, announced on Facebook Friday night that Wojcicki died after a two-year battle with non-small cell lung cancer. “It is with profound sadness that I share the news of Susan Wojcicki passing,” he wrote. “My beloved wife of 26 years and mother to our five children left us today after 2 years of living with non-small cell lung cancer.”
Troper continued in his post, “Susan was not just my best friend and partner in life, but a brilliant mind, a loving mother, and a dear friend to many. Her impact on our family and the world was immeasurable. We are heartbroken, but grateful for the time we had with her. Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this difficult time.”

Breaking (or breakdancing) made its debut at the 2024 Paris Olympics, and it’s caused quite a stir across social media.
The competition kicked off on Friday with an introduction from the Olympics icon himself, Snoop Dogg. Then B-girls from around the world were the first to take to the international dance floor to show off their moves, as the men’s competition will be held on Saturday, Aug. 10.
With breaking making its Olympic debut, of course Snoop Dogg had to make an appearance.

Disney Animation is developing a new movie with Dwyane “The Rock” Johnson inspired by Monster Truck competition — “Monster Jam.
Announced at D23 204, details about the film — aside from the fact it’s shooting right now — aren’t known. But Johnson told the crowed, “we got an opportunity here that we could create something that is immersive and cool and fun, and also a live-action experience for our families all around the world, from the Pov of these incredible, iconic monster trucks and their very eccentric and crazy drivers. Ladies and gentlemen, ‘Monster Jam’ is gonna be a heck of a ride.”
That is of course standard-issued Dwayne Johnson hype-building, but The Rock doesn’t just talk the talk, he also made sure to emphasize he, uh, drives the walk.
“I’m so excited to break the news to you guys. As you guys know, I’m a pickup truck man.

Disney revealed an extended look at the upcoming release “Mufasa: The Lion King” on Friday night at D23.
Before that, singers walked onto the stage and teased a snippet of the film’s opening song before director Barry Jenkins appeared. “Like all of you, ‘The Lion King’ made an indelible mark on me,” Jenkins said. “Hearing the music and feeling every emotion as the story unfolded, a father bestowing a legacy upon his son, a pride being built anew, and a young lion rising to his destiny. Telling his story is an absolute honor.”
Jenkins also announced that Lin-Manuel Miranda will pen the film’s original songs. Miranda received a standing ovation as he joined Jenkins to preview the song, “I Always Wanted a Brother.”

“Tron: Ares” arrives next year, following in the footsteps of 1982’s “Tron” and 2010’s “Tron: Legacy.” And at D23 on Friday the first footage from the movie was revealed. And it is a doozy.
The movie stars Jared Leto as the titular character, a program who escapes the computerized video game world of the Grid for our own world. The footage began with Evan Peters’ Julian Dillinger, who noted on stage, “You know the name Dillinger doesn’t mean great things for those on the Grid. Dillinger is giving a speech about how we are looking for life in the stars but that we should have been looking inside – inside the Grid that is.”

And he didn’t come alone. He was joined by Lin-Manuel Miranda, who is composing new songs for the film.
Miranda showed off a never-before seen clip with one of his new songs called “I Always Wanted a Brother.” The clip shows Taka, the royal prince who will one day be known as Scar. Taka’s father, the Lion King Obasi, doesn’t like the idea that his son has befriended a stray in Mufasa, but the cub has always wanted a brother, and he’s determined to make sure Mufasa will be embraced by the pride.
The new clip shows Mufasa and Taka frolicking through the Pride Lands, first as cubs and then as young lions.

Nine Inch Nails, the band headlined by musician Trent Reznor, is composing the score for Tron: Ares, Disney announced Friday at D23.
The reveal occurred during a first-look at the sci-fi movie that is being headlined by Jared Leto and directed by Joachim Ronning.
And featured some snippets of the score work done so far. The previous installment, Tron: Legacy, had a genre-defining score from Daft Punk, so when it came to the new movie, the bar is set high.
Reznor created Nin in the late 1980s as an industrial hard rock band even though for the albums, it was the Reznor himself who was composing and playing the instruments. However, when Nin toured, the frontman assembled members who rotated in and out. The band was hugely influential in the 1990s and racked up numerous Grammy nominations and a couple of wins for songs “Wish” and “Happiness in Slavery.”

Reznor and Ross, who in addition to being Hollywood’s most in-demand composers are also members of industrial rock outfit Nine Inch Nails, have some mighty big shoes to fill. 1982’s “Tron” had a cutting-edge score composed by Wendy Carlos, who had also composed the score to Stanley Kubrick’s “The Shining” and “A Clockwork Orange.”

Live-action remake “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” has released a trailer.
The new Snow White, Rachel Zegler and the new Evil Queen (Gal Gadot) were both on hand at D23 to address the crowd. “It’s been the honor of a lifetime,” Zegler said of taking on the princess role. “I think any young person, any little girl if you get to put on a Disney princess dress and be her for a day let alone six months… it’s just been the most amazing experience and I cant wait to share it with you all.”
“It was a lot of fun to get to do something that is completely different than anything I’ve ever done before,” Gadot said on playing the iconic Evil Queen. “She’s delicious, she’s evil, she’s magical. We got to sing all these different songs. It was incredible.”
