A young chef from the fine dining world comes home to Chicago to run his family sandwich shop after a heartbreaking death in his family. A world away from what he's used to, Carmy must balance the soul-crushing realities of small business ownership, his strong-willed and recalcitrant kitchen staff and his strained familial relationships, all while grappling with the impact of his brother's suicide. As Carmy fights to transform both the shop and himself, he works alongside a rough-around-the-edges kitchen crew that ultimately reveals itself as his chosen family. Read More Read Less

Having set an exceedingly high standard of excellence for itself, The Bear spends its third season simmering, stewing, and giving off an aroma that whets the appetite.

David Bianculli NPR It's the best food-oriented TV series since Julia Child's "The French Chef." And Christopher Storer and his other writers and directors present montages of food preparation that are beautiful, exotic and mesmerizing all at once. Jul 25, 2024 Full Review Sophie Gilbert The Atlantic The Bear is still extraordinarily artful... But the show also appears less interested in telling a story than in offering an immersive trip for viewers into the recesses and faulty wiring of Carmy’s brain. Jul 15, 2024 Full Review Pat Brown Slant Magazine In its third season, the series dilates the plot, letting mood and character simmer. Rated: 3/4 Jul 14, 2024 Full Review Maria Lattila Film Stories The Bear season 3 feels like an incomplete season, one that raises more questions than it answers, but I’ll be damned if I’m not excited to see where it all goes next. Aug 9, 2024 Full Review Rachel Ho Exclaim! There's an interim quality to Season 3. Rated: 6/10 Aug 5, 2024 Full Review Robert W. Butler Butler's Cinema Scene It’s often amusing, but also achingly bittersweet. The restaurant business often gets a bad rap, but by the time this season wraps up you’re left with a feeling of deep respect for the people who have made it their life’s work to feed the rest of us. Dan P What a complete indulgent waste. I wish I could have that time back. Let me save you yours, but summarizing the season: 1. Extreme closeups to the point where you can count the pores 2. Overacting 3. The feeling that there was no script, that actors whose gift is not screenwriting were left to invent their own dialogue 4. More gratuitous f-bombs (but aren't they all gratuitous?) than a stadium can hold 5. ZERO plot advancement. ZERO character arc. ZERO resolution. We end where we start. What had given the previous seasons charm was either the hope or the experience of character arcs and some redemption. This season utterly lacked either. So there. Your time is saved. You're welcome. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review Luke S Warning: Do not watch before bedtime. Anxiety, angst, miscommunication coupled with extreme close ups (See the emotion? See!) and high end food porn. By the season finale I found myself wishing the everyone would go to a restaurant that turned out to be the one from The Menu. Season 1 had storylines and progression. Season 2 slowed that down. Season 3... the Tina and the Sugar/Mom episode were the only 2 enjoyable episodes, the only 2 with any development. The Bear seems to have fallen down a hole since season 1. A dark, tight, hairy, ursine hole. Or maybe it crawled up it? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review Federico S Ten episodes and nothing happened, literally!! What a waste of time this whole season! Rated 1 out of 5 stars 08/10/24 Full Review Matt H Season 3 is a joke, nobody cares about the character biops to be honest, we watch the show for the struggle, the food and the journey. My wife and I resubscribed to Disney for this show and regret it deeply. Trying to get through this show has been painful. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review H N Great opening episode for the 3rd season. Still loving the show! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/09/24 Full Review Emily M I loved this show. Season 3 was so boring I got frustrated even watching it. The entire season could have been one 1-hour episode and then they could have moved on. Instead they made this season drag on forrrrrrreeeeeeevvvvvveeeeerrrrr. It was painful. The Bear jumped the shark. I’ve never seen a better example of jumping the shark than this show’s 3rd season. The half-star I’m giving it is for the Fack brothers comedic elements, loved the concept of “haunting”, and their general vibe could be its own whole show (which would be better than this).
