You know stage sets in a theater? THAT'S Bagatella! At first glance, it looks fab - but it doesn't withstand Dining 101 basics. Wish we'd gone to any other Italian place in the city.

First of all, they couldn't find our reservation. No big deal (I guess?) as they seated us right away. The "ambiance" looked rich at first glance but, as previous reviews have stated, the "plant walls" are quite obviously fake. The place strikes an interesting balance between old-skool steakhouse-meets-we're-more-original-than-that with lots of light. Our table was both too close to those on either side of us - and too far away from one another to have an intimate conversation. The table was also unbalanced and kept tipping, so it felt cheap.

It took 10 minutes for us to get water. Just... water. I'm the one who made the reservation and I was fully apprised that they had a "wine wall." I'm sober and I've been appreciating the zero-alcohol options out there. Bagatella has exactly one option: A beer. I asked if I could get a carafe of water for the table (as their water glasses are thimble-sized) and was told "We don't do that here." I was assured that they would "keep their eye on my glass" for refills. They did not. In fact, we saw our waitstaff about as often as I see my third cousins.

When my husband's glass of wine arrived 10 minutes later (we'd been there 20 minutes by then), we were seriously considering ordering a pizza from down the street and watching movies in our hotel room instead.

In the meantime, we watched every. Single. Table. Taking pictures of their food. Snapping shots of themselves against the plant wall. Of their wine glasses. Of themselves sipping their wine. Of their dogs with their wine. More pictures of their food. We were the oldest people in the restaurant (I'm 53) by about 20 years. Yes, I'm showing my age. Very few people were actually having conversations with one another. The phones were ever-present.

My husband convinced me to place an order. I had seafood pasta. He had the filet mignon. Our (unphotographed) meals were uninspired; they lacked flavor/spice. I ate half of mine and my husband did not finish his plate, either.

We were asked if we wanted to see the dessert menu. I wanted to flee, but my husband wanted an espresso so they gave us a teensy laminated list (4 options of desserts and several drink choices). That was the last time we saw any wait staff; they never checked back. They were NOT busy. The place was maybe 3/4s full. It's possible that they were understaffed?

I took out my credit card and placed it on the table; then I held it in my hand above my head. Finally, we made a move to walk toward the front. (Perhaps, if we'd stood at the Host/Hostess Station, we would have gotten water refills as quickly?)

If you're over 27 years old, go ANYWHERE else. This was one of the worst experiences we've had in a restaurant - although the people-(and dog) watching was EPIC!

We went here to celebrate my birthday. We had reservations for our group of 6 on a Friday evening. The person who answered the phone when we made reservations was very accommodating and changed our reservation a couple of times because we were running late. We were given a table close to the entrance. This table was perfect if you wanted to have the sun right in your eyes. They eventually found us a better table in back. It took a long time to get the menus and then it took forever to even order beverages. After ordering an initial bottle of cabernet, we were told they had run out. We ordered a different bottle of cabernet. We were all getting hungry after enjoying the wine. My daughter got up and found a server so that we could order our food. I was really looking forward to the flank steak (for my birthday!) but I was told that they had run out. I ordered the filet mignon. The filet was tasty (4 stars - GOOD). After surveying the table, the other meals were either 3 (OK) or 4 stars (GOOD).

Another spot for improvement would be related to the bussing service. Several times dishes were cleared in a rather inappropriate manner. One staff member actually struck (not hard) my arm and caused me to spill the cabernet on my new shirt. They gave me a new cloth napkin and some soda water. (My mom was able to get the stain out.)

There was a bright spot in the meal. They gave us a couple of complimentary desserts. I'm not sure if this was because of the wine accident or that they knew it was my birthday. In any case, the desserts were very good.

I understand that this place is relatively new. I hope that they can iron out the problems they are having. The host (owner?) seemed like a lovely fellow and I'd like them to succeed.

Beautiful restaurant in shades of gold and emerald with pasta that is exquisite, and prices that are not too hard on the Mastercard. We had a late dinner with beet and arugula salad, a fabulous grilled shrimp appetizer. Mains were pastas--three of us had the sacchetti, and one penne with chicken. The sacchetti with marscapone is a must try. Will be back again to sample more of the menu when we have more time. Service was friendly. Really nice place to break bread.

Last Friday night I had dinner here with other three friends. The restaurant decor is very nice.
We got two appetizers (the meatball and the gnocchi) and 4 main (2 steak, 1 salmon and 1 tartare). The gnocchi were very good, I liked the cheese fondue. I didn't try the meatball so I don't really know the taste of them.
Then I ate the salmon and I was pretty disappointed because I didn't really like it so much. I didn't taste the salmon flavor but the grilled one. Speaking of the meat, I didn't try it but my husband said it was good. For the tartare I had better expectation too.
The service was good, nothing to say about it.

The ambiance is beautiful however towards the back of the resturant was tons of flies all over our food. I got the seafood pasta and it was just okay it seemed like the seafood was frozen as the scallop and shrimp was very small

Love the ambiance, the decor, and most of all the food !

Had a really nice dinner here on a Saturday. Not too over crowded , great service. The cream brûlée was to die for. It has an orange flavor undertone.

      Will come back.

Orange Creme Brûlée was EVERYTHING!! Food was delicious, even the complimentary bread has me thinking about it. Interior was beautiful, the plates, the decor, everything had a unique touch to it. Staff was lovely and very attentive for a hectic night like NYE. This place has mastered both ambiance and amazing food.

      Perfect for every occasion!

The food here is very good. Everything about the food was excellent. They only had one server for the entire restaurant so it felt like things took a while. We originally ordered a bottle of wine and was informed that it was out of stock. The wine we ended up choosing came to us after small plates were served. We were there to celebrate a birthday so the server ended up making it festive for us. I would've given this place a 5 if the wine bottle came out earlier. We were also informed that they ran out of filet mignon so some of us had to change our order. Overall, very good experience.

I am afraid to write this review lol. I worry their quality will go down with higher demand. But, they deserve to get this review.

Very polite and attentive service. Easy to make a reservation online. Sleek and clean decor/interior.

I didn't have any entrees but I shared 4 starters and a key lime pie, everything was amazing. The roasted shrimp needed some salt and pepper for my taste but that could be very subjective. Gnocchi was to die for. The beet salad was very good. The seasonal fruits and burrata was really good but the melons were so sweet it was like a dessert. Everything was presented beautifully.

      I truly enjoyed the experience.
