Love this tapas-forward spot. Surprisingly, it wasn't super busy in here for Sunday brunch which is a big change from the last time I was here. But who's complaining? :) The food and service (our server was Christina!) were still top notch.
The whipped sheep cheese with pimentón honey and toast points is a great place to start. The gambas al ajillo (shrimp) with guindilla peppers, olive oil, and garlic are a consistently solid choice--juicy with a hint of spice and swimming in a flavorful and appreciably garlicky sauce. In fact, we kept the sauce on the table to dip bread in long after the shrimp were gone! But HUNNI!!!!!.....their spicy maple bacon is a whole addiction! Thick, smoky, sweet. Yes, please. The pork belly with a remarkable bright green mojo verde is another nice protein option. You simply can't go to Barcelona and not get their addictive Patatas Bravas with garlic aioli. Yes, they're "just potatoes"....but, NO, they are so much more! Perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside and soft inside. The albondigas --spiced meatballs in jamón-tomato sauce were fork-tender and, once again, we kept that sauce on the table! Of course we needed something sweet, so we opted for the olive oil pancakes which were fluffy and rich and made extra special with a citrus-y punch from the orange butter. We even threw in some asparagus at the end in an effort to eat something green. Asparagus is, of course, notoriously tricky to properly roast--just a hair over cook time and you wind up with a limp and slimy monstrosity. Not here! Perfect with a delicious black garlic vinaigrette.
We washed it all down with a dangerously refreshing carafe of the Guns & Rosès cocktail made with São João brut rosè, Lillet rosè, Bedlam vodka, peach nectar, lemon and grapefruit. Yum-mah! Love the rustic, wooden decor with just enough rays of sun cutting through the windows to brighten the place. The books and record albums on the shelves at the front are a nice touch as well.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0 - 149303205Jul 1, 20241 check-in
Food: Went here knowing it was a tapas place. However I was a bit disappointed in relation to the price vs portion sizes. I ended up spending $69 for 3 small plates, and a shared bottle of wine and left hungry. A friend ordered the paella and that was a pretty generous portion.
Service: it was pretty good, right pace, waiter checked on us frequently. Food came out pretty fast except the paella but paella usually takes longer as it takes time to prepare it well and fresh.
Ambiance: nice decor and ambience. They have outdoor seating as well. Parking on the street can be a challenge but there's a garage across the street. You can also ride the slow light rail there.
This restaurant is not for me, but don't let my personal preference dictate your choice.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I had a reservation for 8:15 PM, but when I arrived at 8:12 and checked in , the place was uncomfortably crowded. The loud music and even louder patrons made for a chaotic environment. Despite my reservation, I wasn't called to be seated until 8:50 PM, which is unacceptable.
The lack of organization was evident, and the atmosphere resembled a busy bar rather than a restaurant for a nice dinner. Reservations seemed pointless as walk-ins were given priority over reserved tables.
This was a very disappointing experience, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1Business owner information

Thank you for sharing your experience. We sure did get behind on our reservations last night, and the rain shut our patio so all that moved inside making for an interesting game of tetris in getting our reservations comfortable. Excuses aside, though, we definitely missed the mark in making sure you enjoyed your experience. I'd love to talk to you more about it. Please feel free to email me at asamole@barcelonawinebar.com any time. I look forward to talking with you! - Aaron Samole, GM

This location has a lively, fun, dark & moody (decor) atmosphere! Our sever was lovely and provided great recommendations. My favorite items were the leeks & white wine sangria!

This place is truly a vibe!!! The aesthetic gives me a vintage rustic feel. The music was on point which had my family jamming. We parked in the parking garage since it was across the street from restaurant. Our waitress was great! She explained the menu to us and was attentive throughout our time there. We ordered the paella salvaje (takes 35-45min) but it was worth the wait!, steak and eggs, torrijas, spiced beef empanadas, and crispy calamari. We were pleased with everything brought to the table. We will definitely be back! (Sorry didn't get a pic of paella)

My recent visit to Barcelona Wine Bar in Charlotte left me with mixed feelings, and unfortunately, it fell short of the high expectations I had heard about this place. While there were some positive aspects, the overall experience was underwhelming.
From the start, our evening was marred by a slow start - it took an eternity for the waiter to come to our table and even longer to get our drink orders placed. This initial hiccup set the tone for the rest of the evening.
We kicked off our meal with a Charcuterie and Cheese Board, featuring jamon Serrano and two other cheeses. To be honest, the selections were average at best and failed to stand out. The promise of a delightful assortment fell short of delivering the expected flavors.
Moving on to the tapas, we tried a few dishes, including the patatas bravas. While it was good, it didn't quite become a favorite. The pork belly, though flavorful, was disappointingly chewy and lacked the melt-in-your-mouth texture I anticipated. The real low point was the crudo, which was not just unappetizing but downright disgusting - an unfortunate misstep in the culinary journey.
The main meal, a Seafood Paella, took a whopping 45 minutes to arrive. While well-cooked, the delay left us less enthused by the time it reached our table, having been turned off by the earlier dishes. The overall pacing of the meal and the inconsistency in quality were notable drawbacks.
Additionally, the volume of the music was surprisingly loud, making it difficult to have a conversation across the table. This added to the overall discomfort of the dining experience.
In conclusion, I would hesitate to recommend Barcelona Wine Bar in Charlotte for a full dining experience. The slow service, average food quality, and unfortunate missteps in certain dishes make it a less-than-ideal choice unless you're simply looking for a spot to enjoy drinks. While the ambiance has potential, the overall execution falls short of what one would expect from a place with such a reputation.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I've been here twice now and absolutely love it. It's tapas (small plates) so it's best to go with a group that's down to try a bunch of different things and share. Love the red sangria- it's very authentic compared to what I've had in Spain. My favorite tapas include the sheep's cheese, chorizo and figs, pesto carrots, and papas bravas. Also thank you for providing free bread!! Not enough places do this anymore and it's a great complimentary feature.

this was a great tapas spot! The cheese meat selection was delicious and so were the patatas bravas! The only negative is that the restaurant can get very crowded and a bit loud at times inside so if you are there for conversation, maybe try outdoor seating.

Cute spot and friendly staff. The food came out quickly although they forgot a few of our dishes. They comped us for the mistake though. The food was good but nothing stood out. The outdoor seats are uncomfortable. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here but a good spot for a few small bites if you're in the area.

I. LOVE (and I mean REALLY love) Barcelona Wine Bar. I'm clearly addicted 'cause I'm at the bar at least once a week LOL. Just ask the bartenders. Why would you want to sit at a table when you can sit at the BAR?! Because DUH. That's the vibe.
Each Barcelona I've been too has the same vibe. Sexy, stylish, music is always on point and it doesn't hurt that the wine list is EXTENSIVE. Obviously we gotta eat too, and there are many options for just about everyone.
Ofavorite go to's for food are:
- Gambas
- Potato Tortilla
- Potato Bravas
- Broccolini
- Mussels
- Seafood Paella
- Chicken Pimentos (THIS IS THE MOST FIRE CHICKEN DISH I HAVE EVER HAD)
If you're thinking about a solo dinner night, date night or even girls night, Barcelona should be at the top of your foodie list.
See y'all soon!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
