I am so sad to see this place is closed. Circa 2009 my wife and I were there three days staying just down the street and ate there for breakfast on the second and third mornings - and wished we'd found it the first morning and we would have made it a triple.

My wife loved whatever she ate enough to want to return and I had the crayfish benedict both mornings. I have ever since called it the best breakfast I've ever had and I have long wanted to return just to eat there again.

The place was charming and it seemed like a hidden find/treasure (which, if true, might not be the best for keeping busy).

Alas, I guess I'll have to settle for my second best breakfast, eggs bennedict at http://www.yelp.com/biz/sneakers-bistro-and-cafe-winooski?

I was surprised to learn that Blue Plate had permanently closed. At least that is what the most recent photo uploaded to Yelp seems to indicate. It almost seems silly to review a closed business, but I went here for breakfast a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. From what I read online it looks like I may have had one of their last breakfasts. Here is how it went:

I have always been a fan of breakfast in restaurants as opposed to cooking it myself. It wasn't until recently that I have been able to explore Nola's breakfast eateries and I am always on the lookout for the next great place. One lovely morning I searched for, and found Blue Plate. The reviews looked good so off I went.

The restaurant itself was very attractive with a down home feel. There were various knick Knacks and decorations on the walls that made me feel like I was eating in a friend's kitchen as opposed to a restaurant. The server was very attentive, and very friendly. She even forgave me for having to take a work related call at the table. I can't stand when people do that so I was pretty embarrassed, but she handled it like a champ.

I decided on an omelet for breakfast and picked their twice baked which had potatoes, bacon, cheese and was topped with sour cream. I was pretty impressed by that omelet and its stuff to egg ratio. It's a shame I won't get to try any more of their other offerings.

I really wish I could say more about the place, but the fact that they are now permanently closed sure is a downer. I guess I will have to keep searching for that perfect breakfast place or hope a new restaurant opens in this location.

I already miss Blue Plate Cafe even though they just closed about a month and a half ago. I liked the funny name and the whimsical decor. On the restrooms instead of signs that said "men" or "women" they had a Barbie doll on the ladies room and a Ken doll on the men's room. How cute is that?!

The food was great and portions were huge and service was stellar. I read that the owner just got burnt out and closed down the restaurant for some much needed rest and relaxation. I hope that she's getting lots of that and am keeping my fingers crossed that she decides to open another great breakfast place in Nola one of these days.

Rest in piece Blue Plate Cafe. You will be dearly missed.

I ordered a breakfast burrito to go one morning and it was fantastic!! There's nothing like a big, fat, tasty breakfast burrito, am I right?? I don't think its fair to give 4 or 5 stars until I dine in. So I'll be back, it looks like I have a little date with some pumpkin pancakes in my future.

I originally came to this place because my coworker and his wife LOVE this place. It's their go-to breakfast spot in the city.

A nice little cafe on Prytania, a block off Melpomene. It's got a very open feel, with large windows and high ceilings. The decor is nice, for some reason it makes me think modern southwest (colorful, tile inlay on the tables, which I think are old doors). The atmosphere is great.

The service is very good. It's a relatively small establishment and the waitstaff pays close attention. Even when crowded, you feel like you get good service.

i've heard the breakfasts are nice but I have only come here for lunch. They have a very good mix of sandwiches, plate lunches, and salads. One thing I love is that they offer a side Caesar salad with every entree, and you can get one instead of the usual french fries that most places offer.

I've had a number of dishes but the Swine Divine (pork chop stuffed with spinach, feta, olives) is my favorite. The roast beef sandwich is amazing also.

They have daily specials so if you're looking for something different, you might find it there. I had one special that had brie and chutney on it. I can't even remember the meat on the sandwich because that combo was so good! I had it once months ago--the fact that I can remember it now speaks volumes. The soup specials are often good as well.

As a final note, GREAT FOR VEGETARIANS. Although not one myself, I have a number of friends who are so I'm always on the lookout for places that offer a diverse menu for vegans.

Tucked away in the side streets on the border of the Lower Garden District and the CBD, one can easily bypass this cutie spot as just another coffee shop. Don't be mistaken, my breakfast and brunch comrades! Blue Plate might be small, but it packs a mighty punch! They more than cover their span of omelettes and pancakes to create the perfect haven of sweet and savory first thing on a weekend.

Maybe I was just super hungry this morning, but I can't believe that no one has given this place five stars.

I'm seeing complaints about the coffee, and to be fair, we didn't have any, but my date and I loved our respective mimosa and bloody mary.

Our waitress was extremely nice, helpful, honest about her fave dishes, and funny.

The Breakschetta was mouthwatering! Full of flavorful (but not overpowering) goat cheese & topped with balsamic marinated tomato and basil on fresh, crusty bread.
The cheese grits were piping hot and delicious. You could taste the quality of the cheddar on top.
And I love the breakfast salad, which is a combo of fruit and baby greens, topped with a citrus vinaigrette.

The layout of the restaurant is simple and appealing, it's not too loud, there's lots of natural light, and seems to be full of locals.

Afterward, we were so full and happy that we wanted to go back to the guy who recommended the place and give him flowers. Never doubt the brunch recommendation of a friendly local gay man.

For our last day in New Orleans, I wanted a great breakfast...so since we were in the Garden District we checked in here.

The place isn't large, but I love the feel of it when you walk in. The ladies who were running it were nice, not too chatty but I am sure due to running around to tables.

Ok I have to say that their Breakschetta is so frigging good! It has goat cheese in the scrambled eggs, then put on toast with some tomatoes in a nice sauce, I suppose. I know next time I am in New Orleans I will be back for that. It comes with a fruit salad, which was tasty as well with an orange type dressing.

My daughter had their Sin City pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, with chocolate syrup and vanilla ice cream and whip cream around it. Smelled very chocolatey...and the ice cream was good, not sure where it came from.

      Hightly recommend it!

This place is so cute, and I wanted so much to love it. The Blue Plate is very comfortable if you're looking for a diner. It's cozy, lots of natural light, interesting knick-knacks around, nice colors, and clean. The wait staff is pleasant as well. One of the servers that used to be at Bluebird waited on us, and she is terrific. Unfortunately, I can't say the same for the food.

The coffee is good, but I must say that I happen to like diner-style coffee. My husband said his first cup was cold. I ordered a Veg Head omelet, which was tasteless. The spinach was only slightly warmer than when it came out of the package in the kitchen - big leaves with nothing on them - a few undercooked mushrooms, no cheese, sauce or seasoning of any kind that I noticed made up the filling. The temperature of the food was only slightly warm, including the grits and biscuit. Even the biscuit was cold, dry, and tasteless.

Brent got the Bella Breakfast, which was a mixture of eggs and salsa on a portabella mushroom. He seemed to enjoy it well enough, but that was about it.

The Blue Plate Cafe has not made our 2nd try list. I wish I could have said differently!

This place is super cute, but it should be BYO-C(offee). Customers shouldn't drink microwaved lukewarm coffee. Other than that, it's a decent breakfast cafe. All of the menu items have New Orleans names, so this might work as a place to take an out of towner who would get stressed out by the crowds of Cafe du Monde or someone who wants to see "the real New Orleans". (Whatever that means.)

I was feeling virtuous so I ordered the granola, seasonal fruit, and yogurt. (I don't remember what it was called, so I'll rechristen it the "Mandeville Saturday Night".) The fruit and granola were very fresh - but big deal, right? The two hungover boys with me had far more fun, splitting pancakes, sausage, biscuits with gravy, and crawfish benedict. It was a massive amount of food, but they ate all of it.

All in all, it was a satisfying experience.
