Q:
Hi I was wondering if we can bring our own bottle of wine to this establishment?
A:
No But as wine educators and consultants their wine list has a lot that marries their very intense and assertive food. Not overpriced.
Ferndock F.3 months agoQ:
Is there a dress code?
A:
Thank you for asking! There isn't a formal dress code & most folks dress smart causal - maybe a bit more casually during the day and a bit more dressed up at night & on weekends. We look forward to seeing you soon.

Food, service and ambiance were stellar. We'll definitely return the next time we're in the Big Easy!

A must visit in New Orleans! This might have been our favorite restaurant during our whole trip.
First of all, I need to talk about the bread rolls. Literally the best bread I've had in my entire life, how do they do that?? There is something so fluffy and flavorful about them, I had 4 before our food even came out. I'm going to be dreaming about them for a long time
We ordered the pork belly special, which paired well with the pickled side accompaniments. We also got the fried alligator (does indeed taste like pork-chicken), and the rabbit stew. The alligator was delicious, 10/10, but it seems that I do not like rabbit. My fiancé liked that dish a lot though, so maybe it is objectively good.
Our server was really sweet and friendly, and overall the ambiance of the restaurant is nice and cozy. Would definitely revisit again!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 19, 20241 check-in
We came in for a late lunch, recommended from my sister who visited a few months back. Walking in, there's lots of indoor seating a few tables outside. The walls are accented with rustic decor and towards the back you can see their open kitchen and a large wood fired oven.
We were served warm bread rolls with butter upon seating, we also got amazing wood fired oysters, delicious, buttery, with a small hint of heat. The bread tasted amazing dipped in the cooking liquid left on the plate. The shrimp stew was hearty. Large plump shrimp with hushpuppy like dumplings withe cooked down kale in a a savory broth. I also had a bite of the gumbo, so tasty. Would recommend to try. The salad was good, very much on the tart and tangy side. It's topped with pickled corn, tomatoes, dill and a tangy vinaigrette.
Our servers were attentive and polite, kept checking in on us throughout our meal. They were all great.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Dan D.Atlanta, GA28284154Jul 11, 2024
As an out of towner, Cochon gives the impression of a clean, professional Cajun restaurant that is perfect for date night, or for a night to invite out of town business professionals.
We started with Fried Okra served with a Green Onion Aioli, and Blistered Shishito peppers with tomatoes. The peppers and tomatoes were excellent, although not necessarily authentic Cajun. Not gonna complain about that though when they're as flavorful as they are. The Okra was also solid, but the Green Onion Aioli was incredible. I would commit felonies, plural, for more of this and they were kind/unbusy enough to actually tell me what the recipe was. It's not super complicated and I will try to make a poor recreation of this sauce. We made sure that there was NONE left on the plate when we were done.
The Macaroni and Cheese was tasty, but was cooked with Chicken Broth which gave her issues. It wasn't particularly surprising, but she stated that it was tasty. I got the Catfish Courtboullion with Popcorn Rice. It was a very tasty fish stew. The catfish tasted lightly breaded but to call it a Fish Stew with a buttery tasting rice would be the most accurate way to describe it.
Cochon's has a little bit of a clinical, formal atmosphere to it. If that's your aesthetic, you'll be very happy. Sometimes I'm in the mood for that, other times I'm in the mood for somewhere where coming in with clean jeans is overdressed. Either way, the food is quality and you'll certainly enjoy yourself. An easy recommendation for this NOLA institution.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 9, 20242 check-ins
Cochon has been serving up consistently spectacular dishes for years. Every time I've eaten here, the food has been memorable and cooked perfectly. This time I had the pork chop with a side of grits. The pork chop was moist and juicy, and the grits exploded with flavor. The service is always great at the bar and in the restaurant. This is a great place for an elevated dish with a classy yet casual vibe.

This place is a must even for vegetarians. This lively restaurant and bar serves creative, locally sourced dishes. The dynamic duo
- Jessie and James took really good care of us. We started with wood fired oysters and fried gator appetizers. Yummy spicy delicious sauce on the gator pushed it over the top. Soooo goood! We had the signature rabbit dumplings, short ribs and catfish. They made a special vegetarian dish for me. It's not on the menu, but they were happy to whip up a delicious grilled eggplant with delicious tomato radish salsa.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 28, 2024
My last meal in NOLA and I'm still thinking about it.
My friend and I made reservations, but we didn't need it for a Saturday afternoon.
Staff was friendly and we loved the vibe in the restaurant. So quaint and cute!
We ordered:
-in bloom (cocktail) - myyyy type of drink - light, refreshing, not sweet. Enjoyed it so much that I wanted to recreate it at home!
-fried alligator - good, but not sure I'd get it again
-wood-fired oysters - we weren't planning on getting it, but the tables next to us got it....and O. M. G. I'm soooo glad we did. We saved our bread to dip into the sauce..so much yum.
-fried boudin - probably my second favorite dish! paired perfectly with the mustard and pickles
-louisiana cochon - my friend's favorite. I don't eat much pork, but it was cooked so well!! so juicy.
-pineapple upside down cake - their specialty dessert. I LOVED it. "not too sweet" and the coconut sorbet was the cherry on top!
Def recommending this to anyone visiting NOLA.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jodi B.Manhattan, NY25758141Aug 3, 2024
I was excited when I was able to make a last minute reservation! We were instantly greeted by the host and brought to our seats quickly! The service and food were fantastic! Everyone else seemed to be enjoying themselves and although every table was taken it never felt crowded and always felt that you were being taken care of. My only regret was that we did not have any dessert-we had some of our dinner packed to go-the portions were plenty!
I will definitely go back my next visit to NOLA!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 17, 20241 check-in
We all liked the fried alligator and the oysters. I wasn't very impressed with the gumbo. It didn't have a lot of flavor to me just kind of salty. My daughter-in-law got the fish and said it was very good.
The place was comfortable, but the air air conditioning was up a little high, so I got a little chilly. The booth we sat in comfortable.
Our waiter had a little bit of an attitude when we had asked him about one of our entrées, but overall, it was a fairly nice placeHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
