2024 Crescent City Classic was one for the books! I arrived to help out with the corral around 6am. It was totally empty aside from many volunteers.

I was able to watch the space fill in while the sun came up and before we knew it, tens of thousands of people were warming up and getting pumped to run the 10k.

Once we got started energy was high. The route we took was scenic and we got to see the beautiful homes on Esplanade as we ran through. A huge reminder of just how beautiful the city can be. Making friends along the route was my favorite part. The finish line in City Park really made it worth it. The after party had some pretty good food and vendors. I really enjoyed the Classic. I'll definitely do it again next year.

I am so not a runner... but I did walk the CCC this year as a charity walker and my team raised money for Team Gleason (http://www.teamgleason.org/). The charity arm of the CCC is great. There were 15 possible charities to work with and a ton of money was raised. So yay!

The race start was a little confusing to a novice like me. I knew you were supposed to be in your bib color start but late arrivers tried to run people over and get ahead of you. I mostly tried to keep out of the way and not get stepped on...

There were fun bands/snacks/water along the way. And it was fun to see who costumed and who was in their serious running gear. For the record, my bunny ears were fine. My bunny leggings didn't breathe so well on that muggy day.

The after party (to which you can purchase tickets) was fun but very muddy at the City Park festival grounds. We hung out for a bit and then wandered over to where we had left a 2nd car the night before. There were buses to take you back to start but the lines were long.

Great run that goes through a good swath of the city.

Great weather, great atmosphere, great planning and preparation, just an overall great event....one of my favorite weekends to spend in the City. Thank you to all of the sponsors, police, and volunteers that make this event possible.

This is by far the best organized run held in NOLA! Embrace this event New Orleans, you truly have something special.

I've run the CCC10k twice in the past few years. Well. Ran/walked and towards the end I was almost crawling and I faintly remember asking a guy who was wearing a dress and had a beer hat (a hat that holds two cans of beer with a straw leading to your mouth...Look Mom! No hands!!) if I could ride in the K&B shopping cart he was pushing. Oh, K&B...I miss you.

About a week before the race an expo is held at a local hotel where you pick up your race number and tee shirt and get a bagful of sweet sport swag! Whoo!

The race starts in front of the Superdome and through the French Quarter and Garden District. It's a picturesque course and if you tire of the scenery (you won't) there's always something to look at. Remember the man in the dress? Totally normal. Almost all of the participants in are some sort of costume, because that's how we roll in Nola.

The post race party is always a great time. Free beer!!! Music and food are provided in addition to the FREE BEER!!!!

The earlier you register the better, because the price goes up as race time gets closer. Next year the race is going to be held on April 19, 2014. I'll be the one crawling and crying for my mommy =)

Very well organized race and the perfect time of year for a 10K in New Orleans! The expo the 2 days before is a lot of fun - it includes a lot of activities and speakers, so I would recommend taking a look at the schedule to see if there is anything in particular you are interested in. I didn't have to wait long to get my bib while there, and there are lots of vendors and other tables to check out at the expo.

The start area was also put together nicely. There are seeded corrals A-D based on time for those who are interested. If you are interested in being a charity runner, you also are automatically placed in corral D (though you are allowed to move up if you submit a faster pace from a prior race). I messed up here because I was talking with friends and completely lost track of time. I was supposed to start in an earlier corral, but I ended up starting in corral D instead. This was actually fine because by starting at the beginning of corral D, it meant that Poydras (the first street that you run down) was wide open for me. This is typically the most crowded part of the run. After corral D comes 5 more corrals, many of which include walkers.

The course itself is great because you get to go through the CBD, the quarter past Jackson Square, up Esplanade, and into City Park. There are mile markers at each mile, and there were plenty of water stations throughout the course. Additionally, there are beer stations and people handing out shots for those who are looking to start the party early.

The finish area is great - you walk out to water and medals, then you continue down the chute to the post-race party. The party is huge, and there is a ton of food and drink to be had. If you are one of the lucky top 500, you'll receive a coveted race poster.

I would definitely recommend this race if you are in town. It is much better than the rock-n-roll or other local races. It is a great way to see the city, and a wonderful way to experience the culture here.

With sore legs, blistered feet, and only slightly bruised pride, I'm eagerly anticipating a more respectable time in next year's edition of the Crescent City Classic!

This 10K race (that's 6.2 miles for those of us who don't speak metric) is enjoyed by all, from the Kenyans who fly in to shame us, to the weekend warriors who drive in from nearby states, to local lazy asses such as yours truly, who do it for the after party offering all-you-can-drink Abita and all-you-can-eat jambalaya.

The race starts in front of Jackson Square, proceeds upriver to Poydras, loops around back to the quarter, and then up Esplanade and into City Park, where brews, eats, and live music awaits. This year's CCC was blessed with a slightly overcast day, the relative lack of sun making for a [somewhat] easier run. Although that bit of shade was only a small help to me, as I kept getting passed by little kids with ADD, moms pushing strollers, people walking and/or carrying their dogs, and some guy on a motorized wheelchair.

Great 10k route through NoLa- scenic and fun. Many approach this race the way they approach life here, in costume and with stops along the way for alcohol, often given out for free by spectators with tables set up.

But this is a race that almost feels like it's grown too big for its britches, and the end of the race features long lines to leave the finish lanes, long lines for medals, long lines to enter race fest area, long lines for bathrooms, long lines for beer, and long lines for food. As tens of thousands of people sign up every year, they would do well to budget more for assistance to facilitate these issues, and some nicer quality tshirts

This road race starts with 5 stars. I mean, running from the French Quarter to Mid City along some legendary streets and experiencing the unique sights, sounds and smells of the City with about 20,000 fellow runners is amazing in itself. The huge after party at City Park does this City, which is known for its parties, proud.

So Kelly, you may ask, why are you only giving this event 3 stars? Well, on the very slim chance that an organizer of this event actually reads this I hope they take it for what it is - constructive criticism. For the record, I am a seasoned runner with many 10Ks under my belt so I do know a little about these. On to my issues...

      1. Overall course management leaves much to be desired. While many of these types of open runs are "Organized chaos" this one is simply chaotic. There should be more effort put into keeping groups (by groups I am referring to runners, joggers, walkers, etc) together instead of a mishmash of all types of participants. I would suggest more categories - (they seem to have this worked out well for the 40 minute and under finishers) but for those of us in 50 - 60 min categories, well, why not give us our own categories and actually enforce it?

      2. Slow Joggers, Walkers, and Mommy Types pushing strollers along the route - PLEASE note a couple of things about race courtesy. Please don't walk more than two abreast. Please allow the runners to start ahead of you. Please be aware that runners will pass you and its considered bad behavior to call anyone passing you an "asshole".

      3. Hydration stations - very poor organization. When you are running (or even walking) 6.2 miles in 80 plus degree weather hydration is very important. Efficient, clean, properly staffed hydration stations are important. Also I will note the sanitary conditions of at least one of the stations. Empty cups were lined up on a table. Water was emptied into a large garbage can. Race participants needing water had to take a cup and dip it into the garbage can of water to get a drink. Not healthy, folks. Not healthy.

Sorry for the rant folks. Just wanted to make a point.

Probably my favorite 10K! If you were doing it to PR...hopefully you were in the faster corral. There were 25,000 participants this year! The Expo held Thursday and Friday at the Hyatt was fantastic. Organized well with lots of vendors. Free food demonstrations and free beer. Sold! Easy pickup of race # and shirt.

8am start, later for the average joe. A shuttle service was available from finish to start. Lots of buses running made this a easy way to travel and have your car at the finish. Started in front of Super Dome, down Poydras to Decatur...(super scenic route of Jackson square and Esplanade Ave), down Esplanade all the way to City Park.

Many people were out and about watching the runners, which made it fun! Small bands on the route played some tunes. Water stations and even a couple beer stations (sponsored by the locals). It was crowded at the finish, but the elation of being done made that just fine!

Festival like setup at the end. There was a large stage and a couple bands played. Beer and food were part of the after party. I even saw some food trucks posted up on the side (that's extra).

Overall a really fun race! Every walk of life from those who were super serious runners to those lugging an ice chest behind them enjoying the day!
