It should not come as a huge surprise that I *love* Delta Angel. I mean, given the ambiance (cozy-chic interior, veranda seating that conjures up the quintessential mint julep summer afternoon), quirky menu with plenty of veg choices and, well, I'm not gonna lie, I've been slightly obsessed with the environs- the St. Vincent's Guest House and its cast of characters- (I mean, read the reviews! They are the best). They've got the entire package... for the likes of me, at least.
That the food is delicious is cake! I kind of knew going in that it would be. After all Yelp friends John LH and Susan W are regulars and kept telling me I had to try it.
But nothing could have prepared me for that salad with roasted Brussels sprouts and @#$%$@ pumpking dressing. NOTHING. It has jalapeños, raisins, walnuts, bleu cheese and baby spinach. My mouth is quivering at its memory.
Service is really friendly, coffee is hella meh (not strong enough), and although they don't yet have booze, they do comped bloodies on weekends. I know where I'll be come Saturday afternoon... the veranda beckons.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 7Oh no 0 - 22721586957Jun 19, 2012
Delta Angel is great.
For several weeks I have seen the signs advertising Delta Angel. Having been inside of St. Vincent's before, I was a little worried. Thankfully I overcame my fear, and now I can't wait to go back.
The dining area had a cool, funky vibe. I really liked the light fixtures that were made from roof ventilation fans. Service was friendly, and professional.
The menu had several items that looked great, but I decided to go with the Black and Bleu steak sandwich with a side of vegetarian pasta salad. The pasta salad was very good, but the sandwich was incredible. It was so good that it may have been the best non po-boy sandwich I have had this year. I can't accurate describe the flavors other than to say everything on that sandwich combined together to form greatness. It was that good.
If you are looking for a great breakfast or lunch place, give Delta Angel a try. If you need someone to go with you, let me know. This is a place I need to be going far more frequently.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - Aug 4, 2012
I went for brunch and was so not impressed. The drinks were hit or miss. The food was OK, but not great. And it was crowded and super hot. I did enjoy the 80s DJ and the videos projected on the wall.
I went back for lunch a week or two later because it's someone's favorite lunch place and I wanted to give the lunch menu a shot. And my experience was really much better. The lunch items were tasty and well prepared. And while the place was still not well air conditioned, it was not nearly so warm.
But the problem for is that it's still inside the super sketchy St. Vincent's. And I don't know that I'm ever going to be comfortable wandering into that place.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Kelsey G.New Orleans, LA64314045May 29, 2012
I debated long and hard over what review to leave for this interestingly named restaurant inside of an Inn House that used to be an orphanage...
Clearly my internal conversation was impressed and persuaded by my stomach so the five stars is well deserved.
Delta Angel has all the New Orleanian quirks that any new cafe should: the funky decor of carpeted walls behind the bar, patterned chairs, little DIY flower vases, and rooftop fans for light fixtures. Like most up and coming cafes I've visited here, they seemed a little perturbed as to customer protocol, unsure of the server's whereabouts or what they had left to serve. However, once it was all sorted out, we were able to come to conclusions for our meal.
HOLY amazeballs, this food is the bee's knees. I'm not sure what's going on in that kitchen but good golly, Ms. Molly. As much as I'd like to tell you the details of my order, I think it's best to let your eyes and stomach decide because across the board, everything we tasted was fantastic beyond belief. (See pictures)
Please be sure to food-converse with your server/ the chef because they'll do their best to whip you up something special, aimed to your personal preference. *Hint: they offered roasted brussels sprouts in place of my pasta salad. WHO DOES THAT?! I have a crush on Delta Angel.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 5Oh no 0 - Rene D.New Orleans, LA382810131Jul 20, 2012
Oh, Delta Angel. I had high hopes, that were dashed. When I walked into your un-air conditioned locale, I should have walked away.
It's 2012 - if you don't want to take plastic as a form of payment, stick with cave dwellers and sell bootleg DVDs out of the trunk of a car. Another reason to walk away.
The crappiest Bloody Mary - Harrah's gross freebies included - with no evidence of booze.
An undercooked appetizer - and all the kitchen had to do was toast the bread properly.
Granted, the menu looks great, and my companions had wonderful looking dishes, but I didn't want eggs or tofu. Our server was fast, but didn't question why I barely made a dent into my drink.
I'm not going to sat I had food poisoning, but the rest of my afternoon was spent near my bathroom. And that makes this a place I shall not return.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Amelia R.New Orleans, LA7533127May 20, 2012First to Review
This is not The Columns nor The Country Club, and it's not trying to be. The hotel that houses Delta Angel, St. Vincent's Guest House is an edgy, sometime dodgey place, but it's young and fabulous. I'm super excited with its newest restaurant incarnation. We had a great experience this morning here.
The decor is funky and cool, with an inviting quality. We chose a table outside that had a view of the pool and garden area; there was shade and nice breeze.
Our young and hip server was friendly and gave very good service, getting our order and bringing out our beverages right away. We had the egg and white cheddar sandwich on croissant and a side of the German hash browns (they're more hash style, as opposed to shredded-pancake style). The food came out quickly and was tasty and the hashbrowns well seasoned.
Our entire meal, including coffee and tea, came to under $20, so there's a win, too.
In short, if you find yourself on Magazine in the LGD and looking for and easy-going, quick meal, make it happen at Delta Angel.
P.S. Their to-go menu say they'll deliver all the way to the French Quarter!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - 44626199354Aug 27, 2012
Delta Angel is in the St. Vincent's Guesthouse which is a cool place to begin with. The restaurant is behind the main entrance and faces the interior courtyard. The ambiance here is really cool and funky and they have fur wallpaper behind the bar. They have 80's music videos they play for Saturday and Sunday brunch. I don't care what you think about the 80's as I know the 80's were awesome and so much more awesome than the 90's and 2000's it just doesn't compare! I love hearing REAL music again and remembering when there actually were such things as music videos. The most awesome thing about this place is they are going to be doing poolside Saints viewing events. Yes that's right they have a pool here so you can eat, drink, make merry, swim and watch the Saints on a giant inflatable screen.
When this place is crowded they quickly fall behind and don't seem to have enough staff to cover all the tables so service suffers. When it isn't crowded here you get really friendly and good service. The menu has a lot of interesting things on it but the sandwiches and salads seem to be the better choices. They have a nice steak sandwich that has a lot of flavor. The omelets are very large and have lots of stuff crammed into them but they seem to need a sauce or something extra added as they seem less flavorful than most other omelets I've ever eaten. I was also disappointed they don't have a dessert menu as a place like this seems like it would have awesome desserts but they don't. If they can tweak their menu to get everything up to the standard of their steak sandwich and get their staffing levels able to efficiently handle busy times this place easily has potential to reach four star status.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Richard B.Jennings, LA244Aug 2, 2012
Great sandwich and laid back atmosphere. Who cares if there wasn't any air conditioning. Go to Denny's next time if that's so important (see Mr. Grouchy's previous comments for reference).
The German style taters were awesome. I lived in Germany for over 20 years and never had better!
I'm for sure coming back.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Sarah M.Savannah, GA3715715Jun 22, 2012
So this is for their delivery.. but from reading the other reviews, I'm definitely going to walk over and try it. I love all the new restaurants popping up in the Lower Garden, and this one is no different.
The breakfast my friend and I ordered was absolutely amazing. I'm a sucker for any kind of breakfast sandwich, and theirs was ridiculously delicious. And make sure you order the bacon. So. Good. It's cash only for delivery, but that's no surprise for New Orleans. And they were pretty quick compared to a lot of other restaurants that deliver in the area.
..and even though it was a great hangover cafe, it's definitely a good everyday kinda meal as well.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Allison M.New Orleans, LA268Aug 26, 2012
Changes have been made since several of the previous reviews were written. My husband and I went for brunch this morning, and had a great experience. His Brian Johnson (chicken salad sandwich) was well-seasoned and fresh tasting, and my Richard Vernon (egg-in-a-hole BLT) was delicious. There WAS air-conditioning. Service was attentive and helpful, if not magical. The coconut fruit salad was the best fruit salad I've ever had in a restaurant. The food took several minutes, but was prepared as soon as we ordered it (it does take a little while to cook, after all). It was refreshing to go somewhere on a Sunday and not have to wait for 20-60 minutes for a table.
A solid win. We'll be back. (If only they hadn't closed.)Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
