They might close on Lunar New Year but otherwise they're always open. For shorter lines, they have a sister store down the street on Jackson just before Grant Ave: Wong… more

I've been eating their baked goods ever since I was younger and it's great to see them thrive while maintaining the quality. They even have a digital Chinese/English menu now!
I haven't tried everything on the menu, but these are my faves:
+Pan Fried Scallion Cake : $2.00/1 pc
+Pork Cookie: $10.00/lb (you can also buy 1/2 lb for $5.00)
+Vegetable & Pork Bun: $3.80/3 pcs (they used to have a discount for cold ones, but they no longer do that anymore)
The lines are so long now but so worth it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Emily O.Fremont, CA3535890Aug 7, 2024

-pineapple bun
-steamed red bean bun
-steamed pork bun
-shrimp and pork shiu maiHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aug 7, 2024
Probably the best dim sum I've had and I generally find dim sum too oily.
We got the shumai, har gow, bbq pork buns, and dan tat (egg tart).
The shumai had great flavor and tasted like it was made with high quality ingredients.
The bbq pork bun was pretty well balanced in flavor and amount of meat compared to the bun and super big.
The egg tart custard also had a great flavor and was well balanced with a flakey, buttery crust. I just prefer my dan tats smaller and I wish the bottom crust was a bit firmer so that it was easier to pick up.
They also charge a 3% fee for credit cards.
They are probably also not rated higher due to their service which by American standards many people likely consider rude, but this is pretty expected for Chinese establishments.
They also require everything to go as there is no where inside to sit down.
I will absolutely be back and will be taking my family here instead of our usual dim sum spots!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 28, 2024
I finally stopped in after walking past and seeing long lines - and the wait was worth it. I tried their shrimp dumpling and egg tart. The shrimp dumplings were taken fresh off the steamer, and they were big, meaty, and flavorful - no sauce or soy sauce needed! The dumpling wrapper was nicely chewy and not too thick. The egg tart was also delicious, with a smooth, custard-y filling (not too sweet!) and flaky, slightly salty crust that falls apart in the best way possible.
The prices were reasonable. It was $3.80 for an order of shrimp dumplings (comes with three), and $1.80 for the egg tart. I'll take this over an overpriced latte any day! Jokes aside, the dim sum is fresh, and I have to say the wait is worth it.
Ordering is easy, as there's a big menu behind the counter. Don't expect the friendliest service though; the aunties just want to keep the line moving. Pay in cash to avoid the 3% credit card fee. There's no seating inside or outside Good Mong Kok, and the store can only fit 3-4 customers inside at a time.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 20, 2024
We were craving dim sum and decided to stop by this place for some take out. I love that they open early! We went around 8 am and there was already a decent line but it went by pretty quickly.
We ordered our usual favorites which ended up being about 20 dumplings, 3 turnip cakes, 3 pineapple buns and a char siu bun all for $27! Such a good deal! The dumplings don't look that appetizing in the photos or in person but the pieces were huge and all delicious. Definitely one of our better dim sum experiences.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 534421188Aug 3, 2024
Came mid morning. They already ran out of some foods. I got chow mein, the seafood Shunji's, pork shumai, chive dumplings, and jar gau for $20. It was so cheap for everything I ordered and tasted great!

Everything that Yelp and that really addictive social media app said was true. If you're in SanFran, definitely if you're visiting Chinatown, visiting Good Mong Kok Bakery is a must.
A major part of my solo time traveling is spent on foodie adventures, jazz and museums. So I knew that I had to take some time to visit Chinatown in San Francisco and what a great plan of action. I gave myself 3 hours to spend wandering around and eating. Seems like an extended trip but, mind your biz because I am a hungry girl! I had a list of some awesome spots and even received some recommendations from the sweet bf of my amazing teammate and friend, Yelp CM Katie Rose of South Bay, and Good Mong Kok was at the top of them all so I wasn't missing it.
Once I got to Chinatown, I opted to grab some cash as I didn't want to hold up the line. So glad that I did. Once I hit the ATM, I joined the line growing outside the bakery around 11am. It's a small storefront, standing room only but offering a view into their busy, quick-moving kitchen. After about 15 minutes in line and peeking at the menu, it was finally my time to shine. Let me say: kind customer service wasn't my experience. I felt rushed, the woman seemed annoyed with me despite me knowing/requesting exactly what I ordered and my food was just kinda tossed onto the counter with any concern. Normally, this would turn me off but I was already there and it wasn't like I was sitting for a dine-in experience. Something to note, but it reminded me of the sassy aunties at Jamaican restaurants, lol.
Despite this, my 5-star review is based on the quality and incredible pricing of it all.
The menu is full of some delicious dim sum at prices that are absolutely incredible. Even seeing them irl made me question how the hell they were offering such great prices! And then I saw the portion sizes. How the hell? Lol - you get wayyy more than you pay for here. I seriously wanted to order every single menu item. I ended up ordering shrimp dumplings, steamed bbq pork buns and an egg tart to begin my foodie field trip and paid less than $12. When I say that my order could have fed a family of 4? Wow. The pork buns were HUGE, bigger than the palm of my hand and SO delicious and packed with sweet + savory pork. The dumplings were packed with shrimp and even without a sauce, they were so good. And the egg tart was so flavorful, perfect finale to my order of bites.
I'm so happy that this was recommended to me so many times and that they truly lived up to the Yelp reviews. If I could fly back to Cali just for their food - you better believe that I'd be eating at Good Mong Kok every day!Helpful 14Thanks 4Love this 12Oh no 0 - Jolens V.San Francisco, CA92191313Aug 9, 2024Updated review
This place is famous. People line up and wait. It is in Chinatown. And people see the contents about it from you tube. It is located on Stockton Street . The dim sum are big and tasty. They have a great selection of dim sum . They have things that are not common and are hard to find. I specially love their steamed rice cake. The Lotus Leaf with peanuts or pork is outstanding. Their egg tarts are crispy and not too sweet. I love the sight of tourists and San Franciscans when they are together . Lots of shoppers too.The place can get packed , so come early .

I absolutely love finds like Good Mong Kok. The recommendations from local colleagues led me here but the line out the door at noon on Friday reassured me that it would be a good lunch. It moves quick but I used the line to scour Yelp and plan my order.
Hot tip! If you can, come with a group or at least another friend or two. There is sooooo much to try on the menu so with a few others, you'll be able to basically try a little of everything. I was on my own but still picked out a couple of different things because it was all literally SO cheap.
Okay, everything I tried: Steamed pork bun, shrimp dumplings and shumai and an egg custard. All for like $12. I would recommend it all. Zero complaints.
I snacked as I continued my tour by foot of SF.
If this is your first time, just a couple reminders:
there might be a line but it moves fast.
know what you want when you get to the front of the line.
they do accept cc.
no seats, only a grab and go spot.
enjoy!Helpful 7Thanks 1Love this 12Oh no 0 - Jun 9, 2024
Good dim sum for the price. Beware of the super long line
- Sesame balls w red bean filling: generous with the red bean filling, not too sweet, excellent texture between the mochi wrapper and crispy outer, 4.5/5
- Siu mai: good texture and pork flavour, not the most generous with shrimp, but you can definitely see some chunks, 4/5
- Har gao: medium sized, medium skin thickness, shrimp was medium crunchy. Decent for the price, 4/5
- Baked BBQ pork bun: Bun texture was good, but the filling to bread ratio isn't so good. Char siu filling had nice chunks and flavour, 3.5/5
- Steamed BBQ pork bun: the bun texture was very crumby and slightly on the drier side. Filling to bread ratio isn't so good. Char siu filling had nice chunks and flavour, 3/5
On the weekends, best bet would be to deploy one person while the other looks for parking.. as these are likely equally long activities! Be prepared to stand in a line that goes down the streetHelpful 1Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 0
