Gus's fried chicken hit the spot. I came to New Orleans searching for great southern fried chicken and a friend recommended this place... I'm from the tropics and I like food with flavour and spice! This is the great fried chicken I envisioned when I thought of southern fried chicken: Crisp, full of flavour with just the right amount spice The staff were friendly and welcoming, I loved the chic industrial look of the place. If you love fried chicken, it's worth checking out.

this is some of the best chicken I've ever had, they were out of thighs, which is my favorite... But that being said what they had was so good I didn't end up missing thighs.
The service was as good or better than the chicken, and a large selection of side items all of which were very yummy.
I don't have one negative thing to say, I wish we had a Gus's chicken in Oregon!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Jul 27, 2024Previous reviewThis is some of THE BEST chicken we've ever had. They are out of thighs (sad day), so we settled for white meat, and it was surprisingly delicious! Moist and under fried chicken is not an easy undertaking, but GUS'S has nailed it. Sides were delicious as well! Customer services was fantastic!

Chicken lived up to its billing- wow!
The sides were good: had the beans with mac -n- cheese. Ordered slaw but it came back as more mac :(
Overall too loud but a nice fun "young" atmosphere.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Aaron C.Lewisville, TX32107Jul 19, 2024
Ok, so here's the deal. I thought the chicken at OUR table was good. Some of our other party members didn't like it, but I think maybe it was a preference thing. But who knows. We also tried their sweet potato pie and chess pie, and loved that.
But man, the service. Only one refill the whole time we were there. They forgot one of our kid's side of fries, and when she went to ask for it in a to go container, they rolled their eyes at her.
I'm sure if I got it to go, this rating would be better.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - May 24, 2024
I first tried Gus's while in Austin so when I saw it was in New Orleans and not to far from the convention center I told my friend we had to go here for lunch one day! It did not disappoint! One of the best places for fried chicken!
Service was stellar, environment was nice, food was delicious! I switched out the baked beans for okra and my tummy was happy.
Fried green tomatoes were good, not the best I've had.
Sweet potato pie is highly recommended!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Apr 21, 2024
How can I ever eat fried chicken again?
This set the bar so high!
Just the right amount of spicy- no spicy enough to make you uncomfortable, just spicy enough to wake up your taste buds!
This place was perfect for bringing our kids as the vibe was relaxed and welcoming.
Our server was friendly and answered all of our questions. Definitely recommend staying for dessert!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Cymantha E.Napa, CA572213Jul 25, 2024
The fried chicken was spiced perfectly and even better than that... piping HOT! It was moist, with phenomenal flavor! The beans were equally as hot in temperature and it was a wonderful meal. The unsweetened iced tea was a perfect addition! Our server had an infectious smile and was so kind! A convention center GEM!

FANTASTIC! Best fried chicken I've had in a very long time. Very juicy, crispy, and not greasy at all. I'm not a huge fan of coleslaw, but theirs was very good - crispy and fresh. I've had better collards at other places, so was disappointed in them. Their sweet tea was perfect - not overly sweet at all.
There was one server and she was so busy, fast, and friendly. I was quite impressed with how she kept up with all the tables. I highly recommend going here to get your chicken fix.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Mar 12, 2024
Definitely a tourist trap, but it wasn't bad. I got the 2-piece dark with two sides for $12. The size of the pieces were not commensurate with the cost. My leg could've come from a chick, it was that small. Given its location near the Convention Center, I shouldn't be surprised.
That said, the crust/breading was tasty. The meat was moist, but it didn't taste like it was marinated throughout. I think all the flavor is in the crust. The chicken and fries were also lukewarm. The menu reads seasoned fries, and I immediately thought of Rally's. However, they were the typical frozen fries dusted with cajun seasoning. I asked them to replace the coleslaw, but they replaced the baked beans. The coleslaw surprised me. It provided a refreshing retreat from the spicier chicken. The spiciness isn't upfront, but more of a slow burn.
Service was fine, and the ambience was casual.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 110626146May 4, 2024
The food here is great. I had fried chicken with bake beans and Cole slaw. The ambience was nice. The service was very friendly. Definitely the best fried chicken!

I remember this place from Maryland, so I had to try it. I ordered a 3 piece meal and some fried okra. My friend got the chicken sandwich special which was nothing to write home about. The fried okra were mediocre. The chicken was good as I remembered from my prior visit. The only thing that in New Orleans the chicken has done extra spice to it. Definitely a spicier batter than they sell in Maryland. Not complaining, just an observation. Overall, this chain didn't disappoint and I was a happy camper.
