Ka Yea hair salon is amazing! The salon is nicely remodeled, clean, relaxing and quiet atmosphere. The Lee is phenomenon hairstylist!
Mr. Lee spent about an hour and a half cutting my hair, ensuring that every angle of my haircut looks nicely. I have extremely thin hair with bad head shape I knew It is not easy for some hairstylists to cut my hair and I several really bad experiences because of that am really picky about hairstylist.

I really feel great with my new haircut. Lee listened to my opinions and cut my hair only with scissors that give my hair a lot more fuller and thicker looking. I couldn't be happier because it is not easy to find a hairstylist who really knows what I want.

I will definitely be coming back to Ka Yea Hair. I actually have to go back I can't find anyone is better. I am really happy that I found hair stylist I really like.

Mr Lee is great!! I asked for him to cut my hair really short. Other places usually tries to do it in 10-15 minutes. But not him! He's very meticulous and uses the entire hour!

You know he is good since he has pictures of several Korean celebrities he had cut hair for. First pic I recognized immediately was Lee Byung-Hun (he played Storm Shadow in 2009's GI Joe), second pic was a member from K-Pop boy band Super Junior, and third is an opera singer.

This is the updated review from my original review 2+ years ago. TL:DR - Mr. Lee is actually the GOAT for cutting/styling Asian hair

- Quality & consistency: Now that I've been a long time customer here, I gotta say the quality has stayed consistent (see pics for reference). I always get the two-block haircut with taper and wave-permed bang. There were times that I was out of town and had to find another barber and oh boy did I regret every time. The quality between Mr. Lee and other barbers' cut is day and night personally. As you can see in the pics, my hair holds up well, months after my appointments with Mr. Lee

But don't just take my words for it, Mr. Lee has cut and styled hair for A-list Korean celebrities e.g., Choi Siwon from Super Junior, Lee Byung-hun (Front Man in Squid Game).

-Vibes: kudos to Mr. Lee for always keeping the salon clean and aesthetic with cool plants and decor. Also I got the aux a couple of times and he let me blast illenium so that is a major plus

-Scheduling: Mr. Lee prefers texting and I recommend scheduling 2-3 weeks in advance as his schedule fills up quite quickly.

Repeat customer now since March of 2023. I get my hair permed every two months and a haircut in between. Going to Lee is an experience that I've probably raved about to everyone I know. I was hesitant about the price at first but time and time again I've walked out of there amazed with the service and quality.

Appointments: He is typically very busy and you can expect to wait anywhere from one to two weeks. He requires a deposit for the first few visits until he knows that you aren't the type to cancel or reschedule. Also, he accepts appointments through texts as to prevent any miscommunication issues over the phone.

The first photo is the first perm I received back in 2023. I had an issue with the top being too long since it required more maintenance to keep out of my eyes. After communicating that with Lee he adjusted the length to fit what I was looking for. In the second photo (first haircut after my last perm) you can see how he kept the bangs out of my eyes and reduced the overall mass around my head to balance it all out. Plus, the curls are still looking great.

If he ever moves his salon I don't think I'll ever recover...

Been coming to Mr. Lee for more than a year, highly recommend! I've gotten maintenance haircuts as well as perms, nothing but good experiences.

I got a perm from other places in the city and they messed up my hair, mr.lee's always came out the way i wanted it. If you guys are looking for a good hair cut/perm I wouldn't go anywhere else.

Mr. Lee is the best and he does a really great job at taking care of any hair request. I've been coming to him for years and he always does an amazing job. You can really tell he puts in a lot of care.

I'm so glad I found this place. When I moved to the city from LA, I was worried about finding a new hair dresser. Mr.Lee (kichun) took that worry away! He is a true professional who understands how to tailor cuts and styles to suit your hair texture and face shape. His work is consistent and I always leave happy with my haircut. I've been going since Jan 2024 and will definitely continue to be a returning customer!

I've been coming to Mr. Lee for well over 3 years now and there's no one else in the city that I trust my hair with. He's a master at his craft with his extreme attention to detail and always takes his time to make sure the that the finished result is exactly the way I like it. He's super kind and will make you feel comfortable every time. If you're looking for a stylist that will exceed your expectations, come visit Mr. Lee and I guarantee you will have a great experience in his seat.

i never thought i would ever leave a negative business review, least of all about a haircut, but Lee absolutely butchered my hair. i went to here for a relatively straightforward men's haircut for which I had extensive photos taken by my last stylist (a long two-block with part from koreatown NYC). After coming here, I legitimately either have to a) buzz the rest of my hair off) or b) wear a hat for months while I wait for my hair to grow back.

despite showing him photos, the cut he gave me looks nothing like the photos, or what my hair looked like when I arrived. further, the cut is extremely uneven and is far too short in places to be fixable. when i indicated my shock and puzzlement at what he had done and showed him the pictures again, he said he could not fix it because he had cut it too short. then, hands shaking, he cut the sides even shorter, while telling me that my last stylist did not understand asian hair and that my forehead is too big. i went out of my way to go here based on the universally positive authentic-looking reviews, but I am pretty sure that supercuts would have done a better job (not good, yet still better).

there are so many other stylists in SF. do yourself a favor and go to one of them.

I'm finally making a review after 9 years .. shame on me.. Lee please understand me, I did not want to write a review because I may now have to reserve an appointment 1 month in advance!!! T_T

Over the years before I found Lee, I had alot of bad experiences with my haircuts and I couldn't quite find a good hairstylist .. most salons kept on messing up my haircuts, so I finally got on yelp and found this place back in 2015.
After recieving my first cut from Lee, I was extremely satified and I realized that I finally found a salon that really knows how to cut hair. Ever since, I have never been to any other hairstylist other than Lee despite Lee being relocated muiltple times, inflation cost, etc.

I'm telling ya'll Lee is the real deal, he is definitely one of the best hairstylist in the bayarea and there is no one else out here who I can trust cutting my hair. Lee is a highly decorated hairstylist having done many cuts to well known people! I highly recommend going here and give this place a shot cause you may not need to search for another salon after your first cut.

He does beautiful work on hair. Got a perm from the boss himself in February, and it is so pretty. I look like I do my hair every morning when I just wake up. It's the best because I am high maintenance so I can be low maintenance ‍
