Kyu is back, and shall I say just as good as ever!
I stopped by for drinks on Friday and sat at the bar with two girlfriends. Our bartender Dan was super friendly and helped us decide our choices for the afternoon.
I started with the she so spicy which was great. I also tried the pink puppy which is their version of a lychee martini.
Of course, I also had to try a dirty martini. My friends got the Godzilla water and tried a naked and famous as well. Clearly, we came more for drinks than food but the cocktails were perfectly balanced and wonderful.
One cannot come to Kyu without ordering the crispy tuna rice and cauliflower, so we also snacked on those.
I am so happy Kyu returned and will be back for some tasty drinks and the infamous coconut cake.Helpful 8Thanks 1Love this 14Oh no 0 - Gleason D.Houston, TX01Jul 4, 2024
I had an incredible meal at Kyu, trying their fried chicken. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, with a delicious blend of spices. The ambiance was modern and stylish, creating a trendy yet comfortable dining environment. The service was outstanding; the staff was attentive and made sure everything was perfect.

Our favorite restaurant is back!! Oh how we've missed Kyu. We were so excited to order the ribs and cauliflower (our favorites) again. We went on their second night of re-opening a few months back so they were super busy, but we never felt ignored or forgotten by our server.
Highly recommend this Wynwood hotspot!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 2054479Jul 12, 20242 check-ins
After reopening, it became almost impossible to get a reservation at Kyu, especially on the weekends. The place is always buzzing and noisy with a bar-like vibe.
Let's jump to the food:
What is mandatory for trying is the Korean Fried Chicken, which is their signature dish. You get 4 big chunks of tender meat with the crispiest outside. What makes it special is the chili butter sauce that will cause an obsession. This dish is a must, and I don't even like fried chicken! 5/5
Another famous Kyu dish is a whole Roasted cauliflower. The flavor profile is perfect, and the sauce is amazing again. But one thing that is a bit disappointing is that the cauliflower is barely warm, and the hotness is what you expect from a "grilled" thing. 4/5
Baby back ribs are a very good price-value ratio option. You get plenty of glazed meat that easily falls off the bone. 4.5/5
Pastrami Steamed Buns come in a quantity of 4 with some sauces, pickled vegetables, and not that big pieces of meat that resemble thick-cut bacon. If you come with a group of friends, it's a good thing to try, but it wouldn't be my first choice. 3.5/5
Hamachi Crispy Rice was rather a letdown for me because of the rice that sticks to your teeth and basically tasteless fish, but the wasabi sauce was a saving pop of flavor. 3/5
Braised Mushrooms. Let's say I expected an absolutely different dish. I thought those would be like big grilled mushrooms on a sauce pillow, and I got a tiny bowl of glazed pieces. They tasted pretty nice, but the price was too high for a "side." 3/5
The dessert, Mom's Coconut Cake. It is a masterpiece! No wonder this is the reason why many people return to Kyu! The soft vanilla sponge cake layers soaked with a syrup alternate with natural coconut cream cheese. It comes with a side of toasted coconut shreds that add texture and refreshing coconut ice cream. 5/5!
The service:
I really feel this area requires improvement... Both times we went to Kyu, we literally had to fight for a waiter's attention! The first time our waitress was talking to her friend (another client) at the bar for AT LEAST 20 minutes!!! We asked other waiters to help because we couldn't get our check.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 8, 2024
My husband and I had a chance to try Kyu's tasting menu with two cocktails as part of a special event with the "Bilt" credit card dining program. I'm not sure we understood how much food we signed up for! Portions were pretty significant--for the cauliflower dish, they gave us a whole head of cauliflower! Standouts from the dishes for me were the cauliflower dish (delicious Serrano pepper sauce!) and the rice dish (served piping hot).
I'm usually a huge fan of tuna crispy rice, but ours was a bit on the overly chewy side. The last hot dish, the short ribs, was ginormous! By the time it arrived, I was a bit too full to properly enjoy it but glad was able to take leftovers home and have a tasty lunch with the leftover ribs and rice. The coconut cake at the end was delicious - very light and fluffy! Dishes came out pretty quick, except for an oddly longish break between getting the rbroccoli side and the short ribs. Sergio provided great service, coming over after each dish to explain what we had. Cocktails were nice, I enjoyed their version of the Negroni with mezcal!Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 28, 20241 check-in
Excellent food, great service, fantastic cocktails, party atmosphere. And some innovative dishes. I particularly compliment the spicy squid that came with the kimchi, as well as the ground hamachi on hot crispy rice. I also had the baby back ribs, excellent but could have been a little spicier if we're thinking Korean inspired here. Also great spicy eggs served with the kimchi. I'm thinking they can expand their kimchi appetizer and make it into a main dish or for the table. Overall, a great meal and experience. Special thanks for the Spicy Fried Chicken serving that came complementary. Not sure why, but it was great.

Hi John,
Wow your review made our week!! Thank you so much for sharing this amazing and colorful feedback! We are so glad you enjoyed everything and hope see you again soon! - May 14, 2024Updated review
Ahh, closed for some time -- I've been eagerly waiting for one of my favorite restaurants in Miami to reopen. I mean, I even flew to NYC and booked a resy there because I had missed it too much.
All in all, this place gets it. They truly understand combining different flavors, cuisines, and styles of food so perfectly. Everything I tried was quite spectacular! We ordered the following:
- Burrata
- Steak tartare
- Hamachi crudo
- Beef short rib
- Cauliflower
- Hot pot rice with king crab
- Duck breast
- Fried chicken
- 2 desserts: the donuts and smores cake.
While everything was delicious I do have some feedback to say... portions are not as big as before and the price did go up in price. I do understand inflation has hit us all but the short rib and the cauliflower were so much smaller than portions before.
The steak tartare and burrata used to be SO incredibly unique and I just didn't feel that in this updated menu. Maybe it's a personal preference though so I'll leave it at that.
Lastly, the service... while I have ALWAYS loved KYU's service, and have raved about how 5 star it was, this last time it really wasn't it. I think I got my water filled up once, even after I asked 3/4 times. Table wasn't cleaned up once, the food was just being thrown on our table without any explanaitions, our drinks took so long and my friend dropped his chopsticks and asked for new ones and literally never got them. I get it, the place was PACKED. Which is why I won't even blame the server. But on a Friday night, I think they were extremely understaffed. The tab came out to around $600, which I would've happily paid if I would've received a 5 star service accompanied by their iconic food.Helpful 24Thanks 4Love this 15Oh no 1Jan 3, 2022Previous reviewAhh, where do I even begin... KYU is probably one of my favorite restaurants in Miami. This spot exceeds my expectations every single time. Executive Chef Raheem Sealey has mastered the unique and diverse flavors of Asian combined with American BBQ cuisine. And he does it SO well!
Let me put it this way...If you were to order with your eye's closed you'd still enjoy every single dish! That being said, here are my fav recs:
- roasted cauliflower
- steak tartare (a must)
- burrata (can't go wrong)
- hamachi crudo
- short rib
- japanese sweet potato
- hot pot fried rice with crab
All dishes are to share and service is always AMAZING. They explain every dish so well & even give you recs on how to eat the dish.
Ouu... as for cocktails... if you like spicy, you can't go wrong with the spicy shish sour... it's truly a work of art!
The vibe of the place represents Miami's art district, Wynwood so well.
OH! and before I forget...dessert is always a must here. While some may say to get the coconut nut cake, which is a delightful beauty, I'm going to tell you, you cannot go wrong with the dark chocolate s'mores cake...Waoh! heave in your mouth!
If you don't believe all the hype, go and try it for yourself - Aug 1, 2024
Great food, great service, great vibe and ambiance. Whether you are coming here for drinks and some apps or a sit down dinner KYU is the spot. We had a baby and they were very accommodating and kind. The food came out at a good pace and we ordered A LOT. We started with the hamachi crispy rice which was actually the only bad thing we had, the fish did not taste good at all. other than that everything else was great. the shishitos and the cauliflower were the perfect veggies. We got the duck burnt ends and it was very good I had never tasted anything like it. The fried chicken was incredible and the short rib was so tender and juicy it was amazing. The duck fried rice was not like a traditional fried rice but even better! and finally the Japanese sweet potato was really good but really sweet so if you don't like too sweet I would maybe skip. the smores desert was the perfect finish to an amazing meal.

Hi Sylvia,
Thank you for your feedback! We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed most of the food—though we apologize for the hamachi crudo not hitting the mark. Your feedback is invaluable, and we’ll ensure the team addresses this.
We look forward to welcoming you again! - Jul 31, 20242 check-ins
I'd been super excited to check out Kyu since the reopen and I'm glad that I finally made it. My brother and I decided to check it out for happy hour. Not only were the prices great and affordable but everything was DELICIOUS! We ordered the Korean fried chicken which came with an ample portion. As did the Krunchy kale. The short rib bao buns. And a couple cocktails. We even ordered another round of the short rib bao buns even which comes in orders of two. Lol. It's so hard to pick a favorite because they all were amazing! I loved the pink puppy cocktail. It was a good balance of alcohol and flavor. And for eight bucks, sign me up again! Our servers were great as well. I remember the young man's name being Denzel which of course was easy to recall. The ambiance on the patio was nice giving me the ability to people watch while we chatted it up. I live for a great dining experience and some time with my favorite people. Kyu definitely hit the mark as my fav of the month. I'll be back often!

Hi Dawn,
Thank you for sharing! We're thrilled you enjoyed everything and glad you liked our Happy Hour! Tell your friends :) We hope to have you back soon! - Jun 24, 2024
This place was just good as a i remember it. Think Phuc Yea in Wynwood but a little better. The short ribs are the best I've had an a long time. They melt in your mouth. As good as that was, my friends preferred the fried chicken. I liked the fried rice, but that is one thing I'll say i liked more at Phuc Yea. Lots of good drink options. I had the good morning Vietnam which is like an espresso martini and my friend had the lychee martini. The cauliflower was just like i remembered it.
