Q:
Is there fast service?
A:
It isn't fast food, but the food comes reasonably quick. Good things come to those who wait! Enjoy the margaritas and the food will soon follow!

Mole chicken enchiladas are fire. 10/10 do recommend. Service was fast and friendly. They even have a couple plant-based options on the menu.

Service: Our server was a nice guy named Edgar who recommended solid options after figuring out we were new to the area. With a warm welcome he explained top sellers, fan favorites and his co workers checked on us too
Ambiance: The atmosphere when entering was full of smiles and busy people. No one was "in the weeds" and the timing of food leaving the kitchen was incredible.
Food: I should go to jail. For the quality of food we had against the price made me feel like we were stealing. Definitely a must to visit if you are in the area.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jacob H.Los Angeles, CA2571911Jul 14, 2024
Absolutely excellent food at good prices! I had green chile chicken cheese enchiladas, which were superb! Some of the best enchiladas I've ever had!
The cafe was very busy when we were there -- about 1 pm on a Friday -- but the service was efficient and the staff were friendly.
Love this place -- I'll be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jordan A.Northwest Austin, Austin, TX1013214Aug 4, 2024
Good Mexican food that been over hyped to the point of sabotaging the brand.
Written in the interior is the self styled description of being the crown jewel of Mexican food in El Paso. This is just plain wrong. Is it good? Yes. Is it head and shoulders above the rest, no.
What you get here is good food and more professional management and infrastructure that produces a consistent experience.
I ordered the huevos rancheros and it was... the worst I've had in a very long time. A bland red sauce identical to the sauce served with the chips doused the dish. The accompanying hash browns were bland and soggy.
Needless to say this would be top shelf Mexican in middle America but in El Paso you'd really be stretching to call it the crown jewel.
The parking is a real pain and the wait times are unwarranted.
Hats off to the founders of this very successful institution.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jay J.Pleasanton, CA179219Jul 23, 2024
The sauce was so salty that I stopped eating half way through
The service was great the ambiance was good
But the food is not as good as the reviews
They did not believe me until they tasted the special sauce that they charge an extra $3 fHelpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 2, 20241 check-in
Wow what a gem!
Came to this place while passing though El Paso and it was so delicious.
Starting from the super authentic chips and dip the meal only went up.
I got the fajita salad and it was so delicious. The tortilla bowl was too oily in my opinion but the veggies were well made and seasoned. It was super filling too.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 28, 20241 check-in
One of the best Mexican restaurants I have tried. I tried the red beer here and absolutely loved it. The meal started with chips served with pico de gallo, which were delicious. I ordered the Impossible meat tacos, which were served with beans and Spanish Rice - a fantastic choice for anyone looking for a great vegetarian option. Definitely a place to go if you are in the El Paso area. You don't need a reservation, but it's good to call ahead if you're planning to go on a weekend. Tanya my server was amazing Highly recommend!

I was here once before, maybe 10-12 years ago, and I remembered it being very good. That may sound like a long time, but this place has been here for 90+ years, so it's really not that long at all. Well, my recollection served me well, the food, service, and ambience were all great.
We had a variety of items, all were good. I actually ordered the Mexican Combination plate. The standout item for me was the chile verde. The taco and the enchilada were also very tasty, but that pork was the bomb!
I love the memorabilia, old photos, and general decor that just adds to the charm of this old place. Prices are on point and portions are good sized. I plan to return, I would highly recommend a visit if you've never been there!Helpful 5Thanks 3Love this 2Oh no 0 - Jun 18, 20241 check-in
Food was fantastic. I understand why this place has been both an EP mainstay and tourist go to now.
On this visit to EP, my boss recommended we meet here. The team at L&J took our small party and made sure we were comfortable.
Brianna was an excellent server and Denisse checked on us regularly. Liz tried the green chilies con chicken enchiladas. I went with the good ole steak Tampiqueña. It was excellent. I want to give a shout out to the Rick star that made the guacamole on Monday night. It was...how do they say these days...bussin'.
The ambiance was busy. Various dining areas and a bar all had a variety of customers enjoying the food, beers, and NBA24 Finals.
We will be back.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - 11615312695Jun 7, 20242 check-ins
To be honest, I have been nervous about leaving a review for this place, even almost two months after my April 2024 visit. It is the number one place for Mexican food in El Paso - and that alone says everything.
The service, the food, the atmosphere - pure El Chuco (if you know, you know).
The chips and salsa before the meal even begins? Perfection. Legendary Green Chile Con Queso - appropriately named. It is glorious. If you get enchiladas here - get them Christmas-style. Half red salsa and half green chile sauce - incredible. The flautas were also on point. All of it. Even sopapillas, which I normally don't order - stupendous.
We have rarely had service or food this good in such a casual, unique setting. Thank you, L&J Cafe, for your many years of service to El Paso.Helpful 55Thanks 11Love this 55Oh no 0
