      Is this restaurant reservation only?

      A:

They are typically booked so getting a table as a walk in probably isn't practical. They are super nice though and it is well worth calling to see if they can get you a table.

This is a lovely restaurant on Rampart St., situated at the edge of the French Quarter, right across from Armstrong Park. Personally, I tend to avoid places with challenging parking situations, but on the evening I visited, I was pleasantly surprised to find street parking just two blocks away - not bad at all!

The heart and soul of this restaurant are embodied by its incredibly friendly owner, who is exceptionally attentive to her customers, staff, and the overall ambiance of the establishment. This level of dedication is what I believe will ensure the long-term success of Mamou.

The ambiance of the restaurant is very appealing. The tables are perfectly sized, and the chairs are wonderfully comfortable, creating an inviting and cozy atmosphere. However, one downside is the noise level. Unless the noise is an intentional part of the experience, they could certainly benefit from some noise-dampening solutions.

Mamou boasts a very good selection of wines, which is always a plus. However, I found the menu to be somewhat lacking. The two fish dishes were unimpressive, the pork dish seemed quite ordinary, and the choucroute tasted as if it came from a can. The kitchen needs to work faster, and the wait staff should be a little pushier to get the desert out faster. Perhaps it was an off night with some kitchen staff shortage.

Despite these shortcomings, I am eager to give this restaurant another try, and more stars. The owner's evident care and dedication inspire confidence that improvements are on the horizon. I truly hope they will rework the menu soon.

One of the most memorable dinners I've had! Came here for my birthday (with a reservation) and it was incredible.

To start, I ordered a mocktail. Unfortunately I don't remember the name of it, but it had butterfly pea. It was so refreshing.

For our appetizer, we had the crawfish & shrimp salad 'tart'. And wow, it was so good and the presentation was beautiful. It was zesty and refreshing, and the hot sauce was very mild. The seafood was fresh and a great consistency.

For mains, I got the risotto. This dish was incredible. My fish time having quail and it was so good -- inside was a mix of meats -- so flavorful and interesting in the best way. The risotto was so creamy and had corn and cojita cheese. There was also chow-chow, a pickled radish. As my partner was eating his gulf fish, he was definitely secretly picking off my dish as well haha, which just goes to prove how irresistible it was.

The gulf fish was delicious as well. Soft, light, and tender with a creamy béarnaise sauce.

For dessert, we chose the lemon madeleines, which was our server's favorite dessert too! Plush and bite-sized with pops of lemon. We enjoyed soaking them in the crème anglaise.

Very good but there are better alternatives at this price point in New Orleans . I had dinner with my significant other and another couple. We enjoyed several drinks, appetizers, main course and dessert. This is a complicated review for me to write as the restaurant was very good! The Food, service and ambiance was great but at this price point I expect it to be excellent! A More memorable experience.

I could go it to great detail on each course but there's no need. The drinks were a highlight as were the desserts. The appetizers and mains were well presented and although they tasted good they didn't wow! Again at this price point there needs to be more wow. There are at least a dozen other restaurants I have dined at in New Orleans that were similar and better and they cost 20-30% less. As we all know New Orleans has dozens and dozens excellent restaurants to choose from. This would be a five Star review If not for the cost and lack of Wow factor. At a Lower price point MaMou would be excellent but for now I will visit the dozens of other restaurants in New Orleans that are incredible and a better value.

My husband and I met another couple here for dinner and it was a solid meal with great service. Get: bread service, garlic almond soup, Gulf fish a La Royale.

I'm a garlic lover and the soup is fantastic. Not sure where they hid the almond, but the egg is so preciously dressed in a Carolina ham skirt, and the yolk spreads scrumptiously into the soup. My table mate said he'd take a bath in it, and I agree. Gulf fish was perfectly seasoned and prepared; it was the only empty plate of the night besides the bread and garlic almond soup.

Hit-or-miss: crawfish and shrimp salad "tart" is funny that they put the "tart" in quotations but maybe that's because the dish is served cold and tart implies cooked. The texture of amalgamated cold seafood was not for me. By my best guess, since I didn't ask, and didn't see them on the plate, the shrimp and quail was also an amalgamate in the risotto. Again, not a texture I was expecting, but if you're up for seafood sausage, might be for you.

The baba au rhum dessert dish was prepared tableside but we found it too heavy a pour on the syrup and missed the pistachios in the cream as well.

Overall good, and I'll be back for the garlic soup for sure.

What an amazing meal during a rather hectic season in the big easy. We visited MaMou on muses Thursday for dinner, and were able to dine and get out in time to still catch the parade. The menu is filled with a variety of options for any and every pallet (including a number of gluten free options). I found them to be unique and worth returning for.

Highly recommend the gulf fish a La royale, celeriac remoulade and garlic almond soup.

BYOB offered ($50 per bottle corkage fee) but there's a full bar with a diverse selection of mocktails, cocktails and wine.

Phenomenal! Probably one of my favorite places in New Orleans, and that is saying a lot since it is my favorite culinary destination in the US. The food, service and ambiance were great.

I had dinner with my wife and 2 of our closest friends. I ordered the cassoulet, and the pork loin, which were devoured. My wife and friend had the Poisson a la Florentine, while our other friend ordered the risotto. All of the dishes were delicious!

For dessert, we had the Baba au Rhum (emphasis on the 'rhum'), which was devoured by the entire table.

Next time we are in New Orleans, we will ensure we come here for dinner. This is a gem located on Rampart Street and it is must go destination for foodies!

Everything at Mamou was unexpected and delicious and the service was incredible. The hype is totally worth it. Our personal favorites were the Poisson a la Florentine main and the blue cheese charlotte appetizer. All of the flavor combinations were really unique and made for an exciting meal!

All the servers seemed extremely friendly, and ours was especially knowledgeable and more than happy to offer suggestions and describe any dish on the menu. The restaurant has an adorable eclectic feel and the ambiance adds a lot to the entire experience.

I am also cried after my first bite, it was that good. This is my first trip to New Orleans for about ten years and Mamou reminded me about what makes it the best food city in the world. I started with the celeriac remoulade, which was full of blue crab and served on the best pain perdu ever. The presentation was fantastic but the taste was even better, I fell in love as soon as I tasted it. While I am normally a fast eater, I tried to eat as slowly as possible as I did not want it to end.

I had a similar experience with my main dish, the fish Florentine. The fish was cooked perfectly but the sauce was incredible, again I just never wanted it to end. I added the caviar, which was nice, but the fish is so good I am not sure how much the caviar adds. I normally order since it is healthier but it is not one of my favorite proteins, this was still an incredible experience (not sure about the healthy side, given the richness of the sauce). Hope to go back another time.

Amazing meal.. I had high expectations based on what I heard and read but tried to keep it to low. Blew my mind... phenomenal food and service. Service was phenomenal. We sat at the bar since it was packed for Jazzfest. I ordered small plates since it was my first time and I ewanted to get full flavors and experience. Loved it all: cassoulet, celeriac remoulade. Delightful married young lady next to me had the garlic almond soup and loved it... I did share in some of her fries which were delightful. My traveling buddy had the Poisson a la Florentine which was delicious (I nibbled lol). Wine selection is impressive. Spoke to Lilly the owner (from Iowa!!) and the bartender who was incredible and put on a show at the bar. So good. This is a gem, a little off the beaten path and away from downtown but definitely a must-go in New Orleans which has a well deserved reputation for incredible food.

I really wanted to love this restaurant. We had
Bread "Service": 1 small, skinny pretzel loaf
Garlic Almond soup: not so good. I love garlic and almonds but didn't really taste either and the flavor was not that good.
Celeriac Remoulade: I love celeriac, and all things celery but it was just okay.
Gulf fish a la Royale: good and tasted fresh.
Risotto: too much risotto, very little quail. Too heavy.
The menu is limited. Not sure I would come back for the food. Best part was the wine and the cocktail La Vie en Rouge.

Service was okay. Not too welcoming.
