From the first glance, this dish promises a delightful taste of Southern comfort. The golden-brown crust on the fried fish is inviting, hinting at a perfect blend of seasoning that's sure to satisfy. The fish appears tender and flaky, enveloped in a crispy exterior that delivers a satisfying crunch with every bite. The fried okra complements the fish beautifully, adding a touch of earthy flavor and an additional crispy texture. Each piece looks perfectly seasoned and fried to a light, crispy perfection, making it an ideal pairing with the fish.Adding to the charm is the pickle nestled alongside the fish and okra. The pickle's tangy, slightly sour taste is a refreshing contrast, balancing the rich, savory flavors of the fried elements. The dish sits atop a slice of soft white bread, which not only absorbs any excess oil but also provides a soft, comforting base to this hearty meal.
The service was great even though I messed up signing the wrong receipt. She was patient making sure my order was correct.
I love the pictures on the wall. They represent the New Orleans secondline culture.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Marcia W.Uptown/Carrollton, New Orleans, LA11977183Mar 28, 2024
What can I say! McHardy's did it right as always. Ordered for work lunch about an hour and a half or so before trying to pick up. 60 pieces with a dozen or so bread and a couple of sides. I was a little early but the food was boxed and being escorted to my car. After telling them I needed the order split since they were going to two different offices, McHardys totally accommodated. They happily Placed some chicken with the rolls in one bag!
So unfortunately, I didn't get to taste the chicken but been receiving texts from our entire cemetery and inscription crew saying it was delicious. which I already know this!!
Thanks for making our crew happy - will be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Kodaq G.New Orleans, LA101256Apr 28, 2024
Even after more years than I can count (before Katrina) I continue to eat and rate their fried chicken the BEST in NEW ORLEANS. My partner and I bought a house one block from Jazz Fest only to discover that an epicurean fried chicken feast was within walking distance. I proudly wear my purple McHardy's t-shirt BUT I lust after a PINK shirt...hint hint. Y'all know who I am.
It goes without saying that I highly recommend McHardy's to EVERYONE. You will enjoy.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Nguyen L.Miami, FL315452947Nov 27, 2023
Chicken was well seasoned and was freshly cooked. Red beans and rice were runny but good. Cluck sauce was average. Dirty rice was ok. Arnold Palmer and fruit punch drinks were good. Wish 5 piece came with a roll though. Everyone was nice except the older guy who I'm pretty sure is the owner. Before they opened I asked him where was the entrance and he had a lil snobbish attitude. His demeanor changed for the better once they opened though. Overall, this place does really good, seasoned food.

The food is amazing. I'm GF but my boyfriend always begs me to take him.... And I always give in because the smell is satisfying enough! Not a place to sit and eat, definitely a takeout spot. Service is decently fast. Sometimes they run out of chicken and you can only get chicken nuggets which if not a problem because they also rock

Amazing fried chicken. Totally met (or even exceeded) the hype. Cashier told me her favorite sauce was Bourbon BBQ so of course I got one and it was a lovely combo of sweet & salty. Can't wait to go back!

This came highly recommended by a local. It did not disappoint. The fried chicken and accompanying sauces were finger licking good. I also loved the red beans and rice and the french fries. We understand this is a favorite take out spot for a picnic at City Park. This is strictly a take out joint, but the service is friendly and your food will come out piping hot.

Pretty sure this last meal was actually a mistake and somebody double-salted or something. I went back last week and the chicken was incredible. Salty, sure, but not crazy like last time. The sauces they sell are also really delicious. Keeping a star off because I guess they can be inconsistent occasionally and the dirty rice was kinda perfunctory. The chicken itself is 5 star when you get it the way it's supposed to be.
Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Sep 23, 2023Previous reviewI'm willing to entertain that I just got a weird batch given the good reviews but this chicken strip is one of the saltiest foods I have ever had and almost inedibly so. Great crust, served hot, got a burst of flavor on the initial bite but everything is absolutely overwhelmed by salt. The after taste is salt lick. I'm not salt sensitive or anything. Service was great, place was clean and their menu and signage are very easy to understand (and less than half the prices listed on Google as of this review). I'm disappointed because it seems like great chicken that was ruined by a mistake. I'm gonna go back in the future and try something else.

It's hard not to get emotional when talking about this chicken. I've Taste Gus's and JJs of Chicago, Willie Mae's, McKenzie's, and Manchu my whole life and chicken from New York to Vegas, Texas to Florida...this is the best fried chicken in America. I challenge anyone to find a more thoroughly cooked and seasoned chicken out there. Everything is perfect...from the grease temperature, to the amount of breading, and of course the seasoning. It misses on nothing and it doesn't rely on any gimmick (sauces, season toppings) to achieve this. Add all of that to a family friendly atmosphere and I feel it should be amongst the top restaurant experiences in New Orleans.
