Q:
Hello, I was wondering if you guys offer a steam and press service? If so, what's the turn around time for that? I am flying into San Francisco on Thursday for a wedding on Saturday and would like to get my suit steamed & pressed before the wedding.
A:
Yes, we do. I suggest you call us when you get in town to arrange. 415-876-1588. Best regards

We will be in San Francisco for one day Monday, September 12 staying near the airport in transit east. have a new light-weight black sport jacket with sleeves about 1" too long. Could you hem the sleeves for me while we waited or went to lunch?
A:
Unfortunately, hemming sleeves on a sports jacket is not supposed that we can do "while you wait". Sorry

Sonias did a great job on my dry cleaning and alterations! I dropped 6 items off on a wednesday, and was told I could pick up the items on the following monday.
My last dry cleaner's took a little over a week for alterations. I even got a call from Stephanie before they washed one of my black dresses, to alert me that the ink in the fabric was already starting to bleed. I told to go ahead anyway, and the dress now looks great.
4 pants altered and 2 dresses dry cleaned (with 20% off) came to $64. Not too bad.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Stuart N.San Francisco, CA0927Feb 21, 2024
My son's girlfriend bought him a wool jacket. He mistakenly threw it in the wash. I took it to Stephanie to see if she can fix it. Just picked it up and it is brand new again. YAY!!!
I told my son that when these things happen, you cannot take it to any drycleaner. I took it to Stephanie because I know her work.
SHE DID NOT DISAPPOINT and my son's girlfriend is happy again!!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0Business owner information

I only had a few weeks left to get my bridesmaid dress hemmed for a wedding. I called several places, and many weren't available to do a quick turnaround time - except Sonia's Cleaners! Stephanie is their seamstress, and she did a wonderful job. I needed alterations done - just the length, and she was able to get it done within 1.5 weeks. The price was more than expected, $135 (although she gave me a 10% discount), but completely worth every penny. The dress looked fantastic, and also, the turnaround time was very, very fast. I am extremely pleased with the service from Stephanie! She is a very personable lady too, who really wanted to make sure that the length was what the bride wanted.
Wonderful job!!!!!! Highly recommended if you need a quick turnaround.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 2Oh no 1 - Jorgen A.San Francisco, CA3413738May 20, 2024
Sonia Cleaners is great! I brought in a tuxedo for cleaning and tailoring and they did a fabulous job! They shortened my tuxedo paints for me and dry cleaned the whole outfit. The tailoring took less than a week and was perfect. I messaged them on Yelp to find a time to come in and they responded right away. Price was super affordable as well and everyone there was friendly and helpful. I definitely recommend this cleaners for any of your dry cleaning and tailoring needs, and I will definitely be back!

She's the only one I've found that reweaves cashmere sweaters. She's so busy that you need to be patient. But it's well worth the wait. A great place to bring expensive and cherished clothes to be dry cleaned too.

Crazy rip off. They charge 5 times the amount most other places in the area charge. Came here once, not making that mistake again. Got some alterations done that usually cost $10-$15 at other places. I honestly thought they handed me some one else's bill when I looked at it. I was like there's no way it's $110 to hem two pairs of pants. Each pair of pants only cost $30. I couldn't believe it. It was my fault for not asking the price before but every other place I've gone to it's never been more that $20 to get alterations like this done. You're much better off going to Sparkles, better customer service, WAY better prices and great quality work. I felt completely robbed by this place. I don't know how people go there.

Shon,
Thanks for your review. Please contact us at soniascleaners@gmail.com. I've done an initial research on our end and cannot find your name or an order with the description and price you provided. I also went back several months looking for charges in the amount of $110 and cannot find an order with 2 pants for hemming.
We don't normally charge $55 to hem pants unless they have very intricate edging and/or are very wide bottomed or have specialized stitching requiring hand sewing. Work that requires additional labor.
Having said that, if you are looking to hem pants for $10-15 then we are not the place for you. We focus on quality at competitive pricing for that quality. We pay our employees a reasonable (for San Francisco) hourly rate. If we charged $10-15 to hem pants we would be out of business in short order. - Jun 22, 2022
I have had various items dry cleaned, laundered and even rewoven ( what the hell is that).
Prices are fair and work is excellent.
Had one of my children's cashmere sweaters rewoven ( they repaired the moth hole by reweaving the fabric....it was an invisible repair!)
Highly recommended.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Lysa S.San Francisco, CA07May 15, 2024
Unreasonably expensive, take too long, unfriendly service like they are doing their customers a favor.

Lysa,
Thanks for your review. You definitely grabbed our attention. You mentioned 3 areas of dissatisfaction. Unfortunately, there was no specificity provided. I will provide our perspective on these areas:
Turnaround time: We are unsure if your order or request for a quote was for cleaning or alterations: For cleaning if an order is not urgent normal turnaround time is a week, but we ask customers if they need a faster turnaround time. Most times we can accommodate as we have a plant in house. Were you quoted a turnaround time that was too long? Or was your order not ready as promised? Any detail on your order, such as order number would be helpful. I looked for your name, but we have no customers with your first name. Perhaps you used a different name.
Pricing: We focus on providing top quality (wet and dry) cleaning and alteration services at a competitive price. We try very hard to pay extra attention to details. We often time clean garments that other cleaners wont touch or reclean garments that other cleaners could not get clean. For tailoring and alterations, we take on complicated projects that others refuse to do because they don’t have the expertise. Our prices are not the lowest you can get in San Francisco, but we believe the quality received is worth the cost.
Customer service: We would appreciate any information from you on the interaction you had that was not acceptable. Any information you can provide such as order number that we can use to provide feedback to our counter persons would be very much appreciated. You can reach us at soniascleaners@gmail.com.

I had a wonderful experience at Sonia's Cleaners. I needed a bridesmaid dress to be altered slightly and pressed in time for a wedding. I was very happy with both services, and I appreciated how easy the process was. Everyone was super friendly! Highly recommend their services.

I'm about to move into the Richmond district and saw that Sonia's Cleaners is nearby. It's always a hit or miss with these places, so I brought in 4 pairs of pants with the request for shortening... test them out and see how the service and quality of work is. The guy seemed nice, and there was a woman behind him who welcomed me to the neighborhood. They entered in my information to create an account, and then wrote down my alteration requests. I asked if it would be possible to complete the order by May 31st, letting them know that I had to pack that day and fly out early morning on June 1st for a work trip. They said it wouldn't be a problem. I left feeling optimistic, that Sonia's Cleaners would be my go-to for dry cleaning and alteration services. Boy, was I wrong.
It's now May 31st and I had finished my hospital shift at 4am. I started getting my things together and called Sonia's Dry Cleaners at 10am (they open at 9am) to see if my pants were ready for pick up. After a few rings, a man finally picked up -- it was the same guy who helped me last week. I asked if my pants were ready for pick up, to which he asked if I could call back later because he wasn't at the shop. Apparently, this phone number on Yelp is his personal cell phone. I told him that it wouldn't be a problem and asked if I should call back in one hour... he said to make it 1 1/2 hours (11:30am). I said, no problem. It was 11:45am, and I called back. No answer. Having little time left to get packed, eat a meal and sleep early for tomorrow's early-morning flight, I decided to drive all the way to Sonia's -- hoping that my pants would be ready, as promised. When I got there around 1pm, that same guy came up to the front and asked how he could be of assistance. I provided my information and then he went to the back to check. After about 30 seconds, he came back stating that one pair was still being worked on, so I'd have to come back later. I asked why it wasn't ready yet, to which he stated that orders don't have to ready until the end of the day, with this droopy-eyed, I-don't-give-a-shit look on his face. I asked what time "end of the day" was, to which he replied, "4-5pm"... giving me that same look and attitude. Now, keep in mind: as a new customer, I was never made aware of this "end of day" policy, and it wasn't making the helping the situation to get an attitude. With my clothes held hostage, I had no other choice than to come back.
At approximately 3:20pm, a text suddenly comes to my phone -- stating that my alterations are ready. I'm like, "WTF... you guys never told me about this service!" If I had known that I'd be notified via text--during my initial visit, during my 10am follow up call with the guy, and/or during my follow up visit--I wouldn't have wasted my time. I drove all the way back to Sonia's and was now met by the women from last week. I gave her my information, and she brought my pants to the front counter. I told her to remove my account information from the system because I wouldn't be coming back. She asked why, so I told her everything. Her response? "Oh... I'm sorry, but you know... we expedited your order because you said you needed it sooner." Her deflection clearly told me that neither of them were going to take accountability for what happened, so I just told her that it had nothing to do with anything that transpired today. She then said, "Okay, well... anyway..." with this whatever attitude, so I just replied, "yeah... anyway...". From there, I paid, took my pants and walked out. Brought the pants home and found that for $145, the quality of their alteration work wasn't even worth the price.
It's amazing how quickly these dry cleaning places can flip their personalities. It's happy and "we can do anything for you... no problem" when you drop off your clothes, but then it turns into this "anyway..." and go f$%* yourself attitude when things go wrong and they refuse to take accountability. And they know they can behave this way because you have to pay to get your clothes back. This is the hit or miss that I was talking about. Some of my colleagues who currently live in the area are also looking for a good dry cleaners, and they were asking me to let them know how it went with Sonia's. I'll be telling them to go elsewhere, and recommend you do the same.
Response to owner's post: The beginning of your perspective is true, but the latter part is not: I was never told about a call/text upon completion, and you did give an attitude... you didn't realize it because you're the one giving it. And while I appreciate the expedited service, it's completely irrelevant. At this point, I'm not going to argue with you because it's clear that we have different perspectives of what happened that day. And just so you know: after picking up my pants and leaving your shop, a female customer followed me out and agreed that your co-worker's attitude about what happened was "messed up". That should tell you something.Helpful 3Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0Business owner information

Thanks for your review DL.
A short response to your review is that you came in at noon on Friday May 26 with a request to hem 4 pants to be completed on May 31st. The completed order was ready for pickup on May 31st around 3PM as promised.
Details:
When you came in as a new customer, we set up your profile on our POS. We take your name and phone number as part of this process. An email address is optional. When we ask you for your phone number we ask for a number that we can text to, and also inform you that you will be set up for text notification. I checked our video recording system when you came in and verified that this indeed happened. We took your order and issued you an invoice ticket. The bottom of that ticket shows the due date and the pickup time, end of day for your order as you did not request an early pickup on the due date.
Our turnaround time currently for hemming is about 1-1.5 weeks. Since you mentioned that you were heading out of town, we expedited your order. You came in on mid-day on the Friday before Memorial Day. We were closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday for the Memorial Day Holiday so effectively we had a little over 2 working days to complete your order.
On Wednesday morning May 31, I received a call to our cleaners. I was not yet there, but am able to call/answer calls remotely using our VOIP system. You said you were calling to ask if your order was complete. I asked for your name and call back number since I wasn’t yet at the cleaners and would call you back. You said that it was ok and that you would call back later in the morning. I asked you if you were sure, and that I could call you back. You said it would be easier if you called back later. I then agreed.
I have no doubt that you called back around 11:30 as you say. I did hear the phone around that time, but was servicing another customer at the time. By the time I got to the phone it had stopped ringing. No voicemail was left.
You then came in around 1PM looking for your 4 pants. Our seamstress had completed 3 of the 4 pants and was working on completing the 4th pair of pants. I offered you to take the 3 pants and pay for the entire order upon receiving the 4th pair. You refused and were visibly annoyed. You asked what time the 4th pair would be ready. I was pretty sure that the pants would be completed in about an hour or so, but hesitated a few seconds, thought about it, and responded that you should come between 4-5PM in order to make sure that you didn’t need to wait again. I did hesitate a bit in answering your question, but that hesitation was not accompanied by a “look and attitude”.
In summary, we completed your order on time as promised. Information about the due date and pickup time was on the ticket you received. It’s unfortunate that you had to make 2 trips, but we did provide the information that could have prevented two trips. You had the due date, pickup time, and we did inform you that we needed a phone number that we can text to.
