Sunset 76 Auto Repair & Tire Center

I've had a really positive experience with Sunset 76 in the past but my last visit made me think a little differently.

I've had three oil changes here total at Sunset 76 as well as oil changes at two other shops. Now, I may not know a lot about cars, but I do know about my own car, which takes 4 quarts of full synthetic oil.

During my last visit, I came here to pick up my car after an oil change and the girl working at the front said it came out to $68, which I was a little surprised by. I tried to remember if my last oil change there was that much, but I just signed it and took my car, which was dumb on my part. If I looked at the receipt more carefully I would've noticed that they charged me for 5 quarts instead of 4. I compared the receipt to all my other receipts and every oil change I've ever gotten, I was charged for 4 quarts, even during my last two visits at Sunset 76. Not sure why there was that inconsistency. Maybe the guy who took my car saw a female car owner he thought he could hussle (which unfortunately for me he kind of did). Or maybe it was just an inexperienced mechanic who did my oil change?

Either way, $9 was not enough for me to go back to argue about. The location is also really convenient for me so I'm not sure if I will ban this place, but if I do decide to come back, I will NOT let them overcharge me again.

I ended up receiving a check for the quart-- Although I didn't feel it was necessary since it was only $9, I truly appreciate the fact that they went out of their way to correct it. Thanks!

Texted them on yelp for a wheel alignment and a new tire and they were able to get it done the next day at opening. Looked around and they had the best wheel alignment quote near me.

EDIT: About a week or so after I got this work done I started hearing a weird sort of scraping sound in the rear tires when I drove. Reached out to sunset 76 to see if they could check it out and turned out the suspension just needed tightening. Took a little longer than expected because they were really busy and asked if I could come back in 2 days. Once I got the car in though it was a super quick fix and they didn't charge me. Would definitely come here again.

Definitely believe the glowing reviews of the people who work here. Had an issue with a slow leak in our car, couldn't see any nails or screws. Thought the worst of the situation, possible side wall damage ect...

Showed up and had someone look into it immediately. Of course our fears of the tire needing replacement became true. We were helped and advised on what our next steps were.

Good job 76! Will be definitely coming back again and again

These guys are great. I had a tire with a nail in it. It was fixed within 10 minutes, start to finish. This was also a drop in. Thank you to Simon for getting that done. They get busy, so try to come early. Would definitely come back here again (hopefully not soon because that means my car is not working!).

Some places scoff at you, or don't want to deal with cheaper services like patching a tire anymore.

Their gas prices are a bit lower thanks to being a half mile off Golden Gate Park.

(I'll take that $5, thank you very much!)

The service shop seemed busy, Yelpers report they smog any year car and they're STAR certified- all good.

There's no convenience mart except for cigarettes and my, a trip back to the 80s, so smoky inside that glorified booth (cough).

Quick service and solid integrity at a good value. Had tires rotated, aligned and a slow leak plugged.

if I could give a 6 star rating I would for this local gem. Lou,manager and Lisa, sales person are the most kindhearted professionals ever. The mechanics are good and the turnaround is appropriately fast. The service is fair ( not cheap), honest and I do feel they really care about their customers.
I had an issue with a tire and because the delivery didn't come in on time and I needed to get to work across the Bay, they gave me a free loaner car so this freelancer could get a paycheck.

Louis and his team have serviced my VW's & Audi's for the past 10 years exceptionally well with such honesty ! I haven't found any better expertise or prices from a repair shop locally. He always tells me what is needed and nothing more, and goes out of his way to explain in detail what the issue is in my cars, . They go above and beyond to fit me in their schedules and make sure all the repairs & services are done excellently. Highly recommended!

Good service. Good people. Honest price. Definitely my go to for oil changes and smog.

The other day, I developed a flat tire on 19th Ave in pouring rain. I found myself at Sunset 76 and am very pleased that I did. The service team reviewed my flat tire and replaced it in short order. I recommend the team and their kind, positive demeanor. I was flustered, and they were completely level-headed.
