The food is great. I had the surf salad. Perfect. Healthy. It has chicken and light on the dressing.
Boyfriend had tacos. Those were also good.
The guacamole was fresh. Loved it.
The music was loud, so the people were even louder. We couldn't hear our conversation.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 25, 2024
Cute neighborhood mexican restaurant in the sunset. Parking not too bad, probably a block or two away. Order at the window with a variety of food and drinks, then everything comes pretty quickly. Everything was tasty and well seasoned. Mom's favorite was the ribs. Mine was a toss up between ceviche and baja shrimp tacos.
Everything was mid teens - $20. Swing by if you are in the hood.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Eric C.San Francisco, CA1306813Jul 14, 2024
Got food poisoning after eating here. Not sure why. All I had was Al pastor tacos, carne asada messy fries, and less than. 1/10 of a glass of water.
Also, the tacos were so small. 50% small than normal tortillas. The steak was so burnt and overcooked, it ended up ruining the fries.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 1462231261Jul 2, 2024
Great little neighborhood spot in the outer sunset. I brought my parents here on a Tue for lunch. We found street parking less than a block away.
Sunset Cantina has both indoor tables, bar seating, as well as a fair # of outdoor tables within a parklet -- no shade, tho typically not an issue in the sunset as it rarely gets too hot. Even on this first day of the current heat wave, it's still nice & slightly cool here.
Via a happy coincidence, we realized after we ordered that it's Taco Tuesday, which means $2 off per taco plate. Woot! Everything we ordered was lovely: Baja Shrimp tacos, Al Pastor tacos, ribs appetizer, and a corn appetizer.
Service was quick and friendly. The ambiance was chill. We'll be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jun 1, 2024
A great little Mexican food/Cocktail Bar in the Sunset and a few blocks away from the beach!
They have outdoor seating in the front along the street and in the back, but it was a little windy so we decided to sit inside for this visit. We went for a late lunch on a Saturday and it was busy, but we were seated right away.
While they had lots of good options on the menu, my wife and I both couldn't pass up the Quesabirria tacos and we were not disappointed at all! We both thought that they looked a little small for only 2 to be served, but they were packed full and delicious! They ended up being the perfect serving size to be filling, but not overdue it.
I had a Michelada, which was a little different than your standard due to the Sangrita mixture, but still hit the spot and my wife loved her Agua Fresca on a warm day.
Not pictured, but they also had a big TV showing the Champions League soccer game so this place seems like a nice spot for some tasty grub, a few great drinks, and even good for enjoying the big game with your buddies!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 572211408May 19, 20241 check-in
Another solid entry in our crawl back to the starting line after Bay 2 Breakers. This was stop 2. We just had drinks. The menu looked excellent and for you veggies and vegans they even had items for you. If back thus way for some reason another place to try the food. It all looked great.

Sunset Cantina has a great atmosphere. They have an awesome indoor and outdoor space. The outdoor space includes ordering at the window, lots of seating, and a TV. The staff is extremely friendly and has great hospitality. We ordered at the window and sat outside. They brought out our drinks and chips and dips right away and shortly after they brought out our food. I loved their margarita. Overall everything was very timely.
The chips are THE BEST. They taste like they were literally just made. The salsa is delicious and the guacamole is even better. They are bigger portions, it was just the two of us and we took some of our salsa and guacamole home. This was my first time having flautas and they were amazing! We split the carnitas flautas since it came with 4 and that was plenty. The outside tortilla was perfectly cooked with a little crunch and they were topped with fresh cilantro lime slaw and a crema. You have to try it!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 2Oh no 0 - Mar 9, 2024
Come for: carne asada, carnitas, al pastor tacos
Know that: the kitchen closes before the restaurant (10 pm). Brunch is also available Saturdays (the menu oddly only lists fri and sun hours)
Sunset Cantina is my go-to pre-drinking spot in the sunset. Nothing like loading up on a few tacos before a few drinks.
My favorite tacos are the carne asada. The flavor is fantastic with of a kick from the salsa. The meat is flavorful and portions are decent.
Coming in a close second is the al pastor tacos which does have pieces of pineapple that a lot of al pastor places leave out.
The carnitas really good too with some crunch in the meat!
I have also tried their brunch and got the al pastor hash. Honestly...I found this a little underwhelming. I loved the pineapple pieces but the meat and overall flavor profile felt lacking. Maybe because the meat was in bigger chunks? It also lacked spice!
Service is usually pretty good - attentive. I will say, it gets loud in there though so be prepared to yell your order.
Parking is doable on the side residential streets.
Overall, great mexican spot in the sunset. Get the tacos!Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Feb 8, 2024
I had the pleasure of visiting Sunset Cantina last night as a dear friend wanted to treat me out to celebrate an achievement!
Right off the bat I loved how easily accessible it is from MUNI. Upon walking in we were seated within a minute and given choice of where we wanted to sit which was lovely.
The ambiance is lovely with funny/ nice art all around, it was really nice! The service was also definitely there, we were checked in on frequently after ordering drinks and appetizers so we absolutely felt cared for!
The watermelon margarita was yummy too and the guacamole was good!
I will definitely be back (:Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0
