Food was overall okay! I enjoyed my dish and it was a classic!

It look a while to get our food though and not all the food went out at the same time. However, I understand the purpose of this restaurant is to be family style. For larger groups, it was difficult to seat that many people. Some of the tables only seated around 5 people.

Takoi is one of my favorite restaurants in Detroit. I love the neon lights, friendly staff, and their fun wine/cocktail list. As for the food - Takoi channels the essence of dishes you may typically find in Thai, Vietnamese and Laotian restaurants all while using seasonal and often local ingredients. yum!

We visited mid-week on beautiful late May evening. Luckily, we were able to grab a same day reservation as I had my eye on a few new menu items.

Naem Khao Tod - A long time staple on the menu and a go to for us. We especially love all of the herbs and textures.

Strawberry Caesar - This was such a fun dish. It was not your traditional caesar but a very playful twist with the sweet strawberries, smokey charred cabbage, and zesty dressing.

Crispy Spare Ribs - This is my ideal rib as I appreciate a little crispy chew action vs. a complete fall off the bone style rib. The sauce is a good balance of sweet and tangy. The mango/herb salad was the perfect compliment. You get 4 ribs so good for an entree if solo dining or sharing with a partner.

Soft Shell Crab - It's soft shell season so this was a must. While I enjoyed the soft shell itself, I found myself wanting more and more of the seafood nam jim sauce. Could put it on anything and I'd love it.

Sea Bream - This was the star for me! We ordered it with a side of jasmine rice to soak up all of the sauce...the naan would have been great with this as well. The fish was cooked perfect, skin was well seasoned. The curry and coconut sauces complimented each other perfectly. It is good for sharing but I could have eaten the whole thing if I were dining solo.

If you're craving spice/big flavors, fun textures and innovative southeast Asian cuisine, Takoi is where you need to be.

Phenomenal food & cocktails! Everything we ordered weee delicious. My drink 1913( I think) was amazing. Friendly and efficient service. A little loud and not exactly my vibe but they did the best the could with a space with no windows.

Yum! If you like spicy foods and cilantro, you'll love Takoi! We enjoyed the outdoor patio (lots of shade for those who worry about being too hot!) as it was a breezy, mid-70 degree evening and I was actually cold! There is limited seating but the outside has a fun vibe with (gentle) techno music. They have a happy hour from 4-6pm with limited food and drinks on that menu. We had another fun night at Takoi, come enjoy it after touring Detroit Central Station!

Everything was incredible! Servers and kitchen were hyper aware of dietary/allergy restrictions. The drinks were great and the food was delicious! We sat at the bar since the restaurant was full from reservations, I'll know for next time to make one. The patio outside was super fun too! Can't wait to go back!

This might be one of my favorite dining experiences I've had in a very long time. While unassuming from the outside, the ambiance inside is very vibey.

I highly recommend you make a reservation, especially on a weekend for dinner. We had a reservation and still had about a 30 minute wait due to the table ahead running over.

We chose the vegetarian tasting menu and it included 5 courses. They even threw in a couple extra courses due to our wait, which was very appreciated and a nice gesture. Even without the extra courses, this tasting menu exceeds expectations. Portions were large and there was plenty to take home.

Service was good and we had a few different people bring the courses through the night and each person was friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes being served.

There are many vegan and vegetarian options on the menu for regular ordering and I cannot wait to come back to try more.

I consider Detroit to be one of the best if not the best food and beverage cities in the United States and Takoi is one of the best in Detroit. Takoi is a culinary masterpiece offering vegetable-forward dishes with bold and complex flavours inspired by northern Thailand. Having visited three times, I've never been disappointed by any dish.

Even as someone not typically drawn to fried chicken, I must admit that Takoi's rendition is unparalleled. It surpasses even the reputation of a restaurant considered to have one of the best-fried chicken dishes in the United States. It's a true testament to the exceptional quality and innovation found in every aspect of Takoi's menu.

The cocktails at Takoi are not merely an afterthought; they stand proudly alongside the outstanding food. The mixologists here are artists, crafting drinks that complement and elevate the overall dining experience. The balance and creativity in both the food and cocktails are commendable.

Service is exceptional, with knowledgeable, warm, and attentive servers who add a delightful personality to the dining experience. The ambiance, along with the cool servers, creates a perfect setting for an enjoyable meal.

Takoi is the perfect date night spot, combining an intimate upscale dining experience with a blade runner aesthetic. The Thai food is the best I have ever had, with friendly service. Honestly best restaurant in Michigan hands down!

Second time coming to Takoi, and we shared the Khao Soi (11/10) and jungle mussels (9.5/10). Both dishes were super delicious, but the curry broth of each are the stars of the show. Absolutely need to get sticky rice to eat with the remaining broth, a straight trip to flavor town.

And can't leave Takoi without their delicious coconut ice cream dessert with mango purée (9/10). This dish is perfect size for two people, and is not overwhelmingly sweet like most desserts. A perfect way to top off your lovely dining experience.

Takoi is Detroits must eat restaurant! Eat here!!!!
