Looking for something new to try I stumbled across this little restaurant. There were enough seating options and there seemed to be a large room in the back, possibly for events.
There are daily specials and menu has a number of options to choose from. Saturday and Sundays bottomless mimosas are also offered, and who doesn't like bottomless mimosas? Happy hour every hour is offered 7 days a week. If you're interested in live music, certain nights of the week there is entertainment while you dine.
I started off with the seafood boulettes appetizer. 4 seafood boulettes filled with local gulf shrimp, crawfish and crab meat fried and served with a dipping sauce. The ingredients are all mixed together so don't expect to have lump cramp crawfish pieces within the boulettes. Overall, this appetizer and it was perfect. If this was offered as a meal in a larger portion I'd certainly order. I truly hope this is something they will consider.
The cornbread stuffed pork chop was ok. No much stuffing and just a bit too charred, but overall it was a decent meal. The side of macaroni and cheese was just ok, lacking a bit of seasoning, otherwise I'd recommend if you're not too picky.
The Texas Bacon BBQ Burger was satisfying. I requested it medium well, although it came well done a little extra bbq sauce did the trick. Stuffed between a brioche bun was a beef patty, bacon, bbq sauce, shredded cheddar cheese, lettuce, and fried onion strings. My side of sweet potato fries were fried crispy, I wished they weren't cold. Seemed as if they'd been sitting a while.
I left filled, leaving little room for dessert. I'm
Looking forward to returning. I must add that my waitress was extremely pleasant and handled a number of tables by herself. It seems they were short staffed, nothing surprising given the times we are in. Nonetheless, it's a restuarant Id recommend stopping by if you're in the area.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - May 9, 2021
First time here. I'm gonna give a strong 4 stars as I would eat here again. The main issue is the seafood isn't seasoned as well as I'm accustomed to growing up in NOLA. It was fresh as all get out though.
I had a bowl of seafood gumbo to start. Lots of shrimp which I liked. Nice taste. I'm not a big fan of gumbos with the tomato stock but it was subtle enough not to ruin it. I would definitely eat this again. Not the best around but worth a repeat.
My main dish was grilled catfish which was on special and I had a side of garlic mashed potatoes. Potatoes were good. Catfish were on the thin smaller side so I was given several pieces of them. It was tasty enough.
My sister had a catfish and shrimp platter with fries. The shrimp were huge. They tasted very fresh. And we're fried very well. But the lack of seasoning was again a small issue. But for the shrimp not a huge one and I'd eat a platter of those by themselves next time. The fried catfish didn't taste like it had any seasoning. It was well prepared and fresh as all get our. But my sister said it was like eating fried air without seasoning. She said she would definitely stick with just a shrimp platter next time. The fries were fries. Good enough and tasty.
All in all I'd go back here for the shrimp and the gumbo. They have a half po boy/cup of gumbo meal I'd like to give a try next time I'm in the city. Thanks for having us.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Brittany M.New Orleans, LA625074Jan 29, 2021
I am NOLA native and I am so sorry to the owners but y'all GOTTA Step. It. Up! I dont know who is leaving these five star reviews but baby they have no idea what flavor is. We got the fish/ shrimp platter and an extra side of fries. My husband, my two year old son and I were the ones to eat the food. Now, I am not a food critic by any means but for this establishment to call itself LOCAL- no way!!!
There was absolutely NO SEASONINGS what so ever on my fish or shrimp. I am sorry but none. I mean they need to taste the food they are putting out. My 2YO spit out his shrimp and would only eat the fries. My husband was so mad.
When we ordered, we specifically asked if the platter was large enough for two because we were originally going to get the seafood platter but the person taking our order suggested the fish and shrimp platter. So we chose that.
My husband ordered the food at 6:15pm and they told us the order would be ready in ten minutes. Now we live, and I'm not joking, 2 blocks away so we got there at 6:30pm and the food was not ready. The guy was nice and apologized for the tardiness. However, the food wasn't ready and in our hands until 6:50pm! So they said it would be ready in 10 minutes but it was in fact not ready for almost 40 minutes. I don't mind waiting but you told us ten minutes. Definitely do better with training staff on adequately giving time frames.
Now the hush puppies were the worst. I mean y'all- I was really questioning myself if I had covid because I literally couldn't taste ANYTHING.
The fries were good.
That's it.
Unfortunately, we will not be returning.
The picture is what we ordered. We didn't touch anything. That is exactly what we got.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Apr 20, 2021
Love this neighborhood gem! Everything is delicious from the seafood to the pasta to the burgers and spicy chicken sandwich. My only complaint honestly was their namesake. The gumbo was meh, but would still highly recommend this place! Great happy hour and live music, too!

This is a new place to me that opened up back during the beginning of the pandemic situation and they seem to have a lot of new wait staff. I made two recent visits in two days as I enjoyed my first visit so much. As you might expect from a business named The Gumbo Krewe they do have some good gumbo here and I had the seafood gumbo along with a nice trout filet that was one of their daily specials and on my next visit I tried some crawfish etouffee and a cheeseburger. I generally enjoyed my meal and experience here along with having fun with the fact the building the restaurant is in has an interesting round shape with a side enclosed patio. There are still some teething problems here as the bill didn't come out right as the prices in the system didn't accurately reflect the price posted on the menu for one of my visits and on another visit I was never given the lunch specials menu and I was upcharged for getting a different side item without being told there was going to be an upcharge. They also have been having live music and they have happy hour specials every hour so this seems like it might be a fun spot to check out for some music and happy hour fun.
Overall this place is still very new to me so I look forward to learning more about it and so far other than the few hiccups mentioned I think this should turn out to be a nice spot to pass a good time with some good food.

This local gem was recommended to me by my father, who knows a thing or two about good Gumbo, so I decided to give it a try for myself to see if his recommendation lived up to the hype.
I did a quick peruse of the menu and decided to go for their Shrimp and Okra Gumbo with Bread Chips and their Fried Onion Rings.
I decided to call in my order and pick it up through their drive through window. Super convenient for these ever so treacherous times of COVID. Chris took my order on the phone, and off the bat, I was wowed by his excellent customer service skills.
I pulled up to the window and Chris was there to welcome me and give me my order. I couldn't wait to get home to dig in. As soon as I put my order in the car, the aroma of fresh gumbo began to permeate the air. I immediately was brought back to that feeling of "home." Of course I HAD to sneak a bread chip in on the way home and let me tell you, it was delicious. It reminded me of the almost chargrilled bread that you get when you are served chargrilled oysters. Loved it!
I got home and dug into what was arguably the best take out gumbo I have had in my life. The shrimp were so plump, juicy and fresh, like they were taken straight from the Gulf and put into the Gumbo Pot. The flavors hit you in the face and give you a sense of comfort, like what you would expect from Maw Maw's cooking.
Overall, this establishment definitely deserves 5-stars across the board. They all have excellent customer service skills and the quality of food are what make you want to come back again and again for more. I will most definitely be back to The Gumbo Krewe, hungry for more.Helpful 3Thanks 0Love this 3Oh no 0 - Bob E.French Quarter, New Orleans, LA23118595Jan 8, 2021
This is the same Gumbo Krewe that after 911 and served thousands of first responders during the weeks that followed. They also fed people after Hurricane Katrina and other disasters that followed. Incredible story of volunteerism and giving back.
Recently they opened up their first place and if you are seeking good gumbo - go no further it's amazing. They have a full menu of other NOLA treats - po-boys, catfish, fried shrimp, etc.
Support your locals and enjoy this deliciousness!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Alex C.Metairie, LA304205Jan 21, 2021
I did not enjoy a single thing I ordered. My fries were missing roast beef, the shrimp creole was a huge pile of rice with tomato sauce...not even edible. The fried seafood balls or whatever tasted weird. And last but not least for having the name gumbo krewe you would think their gumbo would be good

Great new place! Delicious food and atmosphere. Live music (singer) on Thursday and Saturday nights. The owner came to our table to thank us. Many places have been in this location and don't do well for some reason, but I hope they make it! Friendly waitstaff. They offer drive thru pickup and Great lunch specials. Definitely give them a try!

First time eating here. We were not disappointed. I got the shrimp po boy and it could have used a little more Mayo but was yummy. The loaded fries were delightful. My fiancé got the shrimp platter which was equally as yummy. I highly recommend this restaurant and the staff omg Walter was delightful and so was the young lady!
