The Mexicano

Just finished dinner. While I enjoyed my dinner, I was highly disappointed in the kitchen's quality control. I ordered one of their signature dishes, the Sonoran molcajete, and there was not one shrimp in the dish. Let the manager know through our server, didn't seem too concerned. Own your mistakes.

Loved the Mexicano! I got the birria bao buns and they were so good George was our server and he was great, offering us takeout waters before we left! Great for a quick lunch/fancy dinner.

Our server, Lenna, was the best! She made my fiancé's birthday dinner a perfect experience! The food is delicious as well! We will definitely be coming back!

Luis did an incredible incredible job. Great food and even better service. Come by during happy hour for some great deals!

We are regulars to the Mexicano and always come back for the amazing vibes, the live DJ and the ridiculous portions!

We get the appetizer nachos as our entree for two. It's that massive and we still can't finish it! When we come with a larger group we split the nachos and each get a taco. So while the pricing can seem high, once you realize how much food it is, it's - so affordable.

The margaritas are insane. Dangerously insane. Highly recommend.

Birthday dinner with wife and brother. My choice, been wanting to try for some time.
Other than the uncomfortable seating, we really enjoyed this place.
Very nice hostess initially sat us a table right in line with the door opening. Half banquette, half high top chairs. Horrible for 3 older folks.
Was moved to a booth. Bottom cushion collapsed 6 inches under my generous proportions. My skinny little wife's elbow was in my ear.
Now that that's out of the way, we started with the guac ferris wheel. A fun gimmick, and some of the dishes were very tasty.
Great fresh chunky avocado.
Bro & I both had Chile rellenos with carne asada. Steak strips were tender, flavorful and delicious. Chile relleno itself, ehh. Could have used some cheese inside, and more cooking.
Beans and rice were good, tasty, but came out barely warm.
Wife's tacos were pretty good. Her favorite was the crispy potato.
Star of the show was dessert. Had the churro cart, and a complimentary flan for my Birthday. Wife thinks it was the best she's had. Churros were simply delicious.
The sauces interesting, the caramel was an A+. Chocolate was intensely powerful. The white sauce was rather thin and milky.
This place is loud, energetic and fun. Our server was very sweet and pleasant.
Nice place, but surprisingly uncomfortable.
I would still recommend it, and bring people here.

They had me at build your own margarita bar!

The margarita bar was super fun! Being an adult while getting to indulge in your kid like cravings was fun! You pick a frozen marg or margarita on ice and then load it up with all the candies and flavorings of your choosing.

We stopped by for happy hour as well since there are specials on the food.

The decor is super cute!

The Molcajeta was amazing! We ordered the guacamole and salsa wheel and it was fun. My husband loved the 32oz margarita served in a donkey.

These days, it's hard to find even a half-decent happy hour.

The Mexicano brings it! Happy hour EVERY DAY from 11am-5:30pm with drinks and food!

We came on Taco Tuesday and got an even more screamin' deal: $2 carnitas and chicken tinga tacos. Had to get the quesobirria taco ($3) too and round it off with the chicken tinga enchiladas ($10). All fantastic. We couldn't get enough of the complimentary crispy tortilla chips and smoky salsa too.

My bf was served the biggest margarita ($5) and when I inquired if the sangria ($5 too!) was red or white, our bartender said, "red but I'll customize it for you! Do you want mango or pineapple with the white?" She served me up the best pineapple white sangria!

Delicious food. Stellar service. Fun ambiance.

What an interesting place! The chips weren't the best but the salsa is PERFECTION!! I was surprised that sitting outside was not uncomfortable, thanks to the ceiling fans and misting systems.

The margaritas are good size... we got the chupacabra and the mango flavor. Be warned: they are spicy! The mango one was definitely spicier than I liked so I wouldn't order it again. I'm sure the non-spicy flavors would be perfect and they do not cheap-out on the alcohol which was nice.

I got 2 tacos, both pork and both delicious!!! I also had the rice and beans which were ok.

The fire dancer was super interesting and a nice touch for sure!!! Very unique!! They do have to turn off the fans and misters during the performance but it's fairly short so you don't have me up getting TOO hot.

I took one star off for service. The place was busy and they were doing their best, but it was very slow to get menus, slow to give the order, and when there was an error in my order it took so long to see our waiter again that I didn't even bother to try to get it corrected. Seems like they needed to add another person or two for a busy Saturday evening.

Also, NOTE: You are not allowed to bring water bottles into the restaurant. They do offer to keep it for you at the front, but I was afraid I'd forget and leave it there so the alternative was to leave it in my hot car. I'm not a fan of this policy, especially because I drink water that has fluoride filtered out, and I doubt that theirs is fluoride-free.

For this year's Spring Arizona Restaurant Week, I picked The Mexicano as my restaurant to dine at. I have been wanting to come by here since they opened up a couple years ago. I have been a frequent guest of the Maggiore Group's other establishments like Sicilian Butcher and Hash Kitchen for many years. I came here for happy hour drinks before jumping into their restaurant week menu and had a really nice time. The place was hopping with music from the DJ booth and tequila from the lady going around offering shots off her cart.

I have sampled some tacos from The Mexicano in the past from an event that I was at. They gave me a piñata which is currently one of my kitchen decorations. The Mexicano is known for their popular build-your-own margarita bar. The service was wonderful and my server gave me some suggestions on what items to try. The menu at The Mexicano is traditional Mexican fare with a twist. I'm a big chips and salsa guy and love Mexican restaurants that give you free chips and salsa to start off with. They have a number of discounted items on the happy hour menu. So I grabbed a couple tacos. I took my time soaking in the vibrant happy hour atmosphere with a margarita while munching on my chips and tacos.

The AZ Restaurant Week menu is a four course dinner that gave you a choice of some of their classic items off their regular dinner menu. The Mexicano has a popular Guacamole and Salsa Ferris Wheel appetizer that wasn't on the menu. So I started off with their Shrimp Cocktail. Our scorching Arizona summer is upon us, so I was thinking anything cool and refreshing to eat. Both the Shrimp Cocktail and Ensalada Fresca were the perfect starters. I was leaning towards the Fajitas, but got the The Best F#%*ing Birria Enchiladas just because it is one of their signature items and it was my first visit here. The best is debatable, but I did find it very flavorful and enjoyable. I love flan and sadly was too stuffed to truly enjoy my flan dessert. It was definitely a highlight for me.

Overall my experience was excellent. I am from the East Valley and that is what took me so long to stop in. I am happy to hear a new location is opening up in Chandler soon. I look forward to a future visit and hopefully another good experience.
