This is the nicest gym I have been to in San Francisco. Whether you are here for a day or live here full time - this gym should be sought out by all. The owner meets you at the door and gives you a private tour. Every work out station is spaced apart making it Covid friendly. Additionally, limited capacity means that you never wait for a machine. That in itself is worth the price of admission. Last but not least - the gym is impeccably clean, having personally seen the owner scrubbing down the entire facility every night. I can't recommend this facility enough for personal trainers, avid gym goers or those looking for a friendly environment to begin your fitness journey. While most gyms overflow with BROS - this is very friendly for all and is becoming my favorite place to spend time after work.

This place is better than having your own home guy. The yard is very well maintained, always spotless and offers an entire "pod" or section of the gym to yourself. Each pod has a bench, squat rack, about 300 pounds worth of plates, dumbbells and a cardio machine. The downstairs pod also includes the assault bike and a rower. No sharing required! You have your pod all to yourself for your hour long reservation, so you don't have to share or wait for anyone else to finish with equipment.
Each pod reservation also gives you access to the indoor, and the outdoor turf area and the cable machine (these are the only shared pieces of equipment).
There's also towel service and three bathrooms and some have showers.
I love this place because the equipment is very well maintained, you have your entire area to yourself and the owner is very kind and considerate.
I like knowing I don't have to wait to use the squat rack or worrying about someone watching me while I workout. My boyfriend loves this place because he isn't as into lifting as me and likes that there's no pressure for someone who doesn't know what their doing to move out of the way for other gym goers.
They are also doing a first month free so there's literally no reason not to try them out.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Elliot Q.San Francisco, CA02Jul 30, 2024
Terrible management. Complete free for all for trainers who book a pod in advanced. There's a trainer there (Zaki Azizi) who refuses to let other trainers use the pod they already booked in advanced because he "knows the owner". Definitely moving all of my business elsewhere after this experience. I've been training here for 3 years and not one single upgrade to the equipment or customer service has been improved. Very disappointed.

I really love the idea of this gym. The pods are a super creative layout and love that you have all the equipment you need. I've joined their barebell basics class via class pass and liked it but your experience will highly depend on the instructor and the amount of people in your class. The one thing that I don't like about this gym is that they don't have any treadmills or stair master machines. I love getting cardio in after a heavy weightlifting sesh and feel that even just 1 machine of each would make all the difference.

This gym was a refreshing trip back to "gym" I go to yoga five times a week and was looking for a place to get a little weight lifting in. The Yard was great for me because it was a space just for me with everything I needed. I did 10 minutes on the bike and 45 minutes with weights. A trainer named Ross was there and he was super helpful. The space was super clean and for this Virgo that is so important. I am going back soon:)

Great gym, great concept, great staff. I highly recommend The Yard. I used to go to Fitness 19 but found that they got too crowded. I couldn't use the equipment I wanted to, and I felt a lot of pressure from having a bunch of people around me. Then, after I moved here I tried Crunch Fitness, but they're a mess - I got my stuff stolen out of my locker. I had tried The Yard a couple times and really liked my experience, and now I intend on coming here weekly. They're reliable and safe.

For everyone looking to escape San Francisco, there's now a few more reasons to stay. I came across an Instagram story for The Yard, and it's exactly what I've been looking for since I moved and sold my home gym.
They have a number of semi-private and open space "pods". The pod I worked out in had a half rack with standard barbell, 2x 45-35-25-10-5-2.5 plates, Powerblocks, air bike, rower, and bands. There are also a few functional trainers, power towers, kettlebell sets, and two turf areas (indoor and outdoor) - the perfect setup for powerlifting, functional training, and general strength training.
I believe they prioritize access for certified trainers and their students, but also accept individual members - I was able to get in a great workout. Joe and Kelsey are superb - highly recommend checking this place out if you are serious about your workouts.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Robert J.Bernal Heights, San Francisco, CA131Apr 22, 2023
Finally a gym where you don't have to worry about finding a rack! I'm naturally an introvert, and I love the feeling of having my own space to lift, especially in the city.
They offer a family plan, which works perfectly for myself and my partner.
Joe is very welcoming too.
Literally zero complaints!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Feb 10, 2022
Really good kit at this gym. Joe is the owner. There are trainers that you can sign up for ..paid. there was no class. You are free to use the equipment as you liked upstairs downstairs outside. Small oasis. There will be an hiit yoga class and also weight lifting classes. Fun exercise kit to try but need more instruction..just spots at the kit.

This gym presents a unique opportunity for members and trainers alike, and it's a most welcome addition to the space at this time in my opinion. Being able to rent your own socially-distant training space is a great idea. Everything's new, the people are friendly, and that's always a winning combination. Also, they have turf!

Hands down the best gym in San Francisco (possible the world). The space is clean, convenient, well equipped. Joe's always there to great people with a smile. Pricing... is too low... My only hesitation in writing this review is that I'm afraid of cluing too many people into the magic of The Yard. A+^1000
