It's no drag queen book hour. There is alcohol, cussing, twerking competitions, and some sexually charged dialogue/jokes. It's really fun, hilarious and a great time. But I feel like it's an adult activity. Plus there's some acrobatics done by the… more

We're huge Potterheads, so of course we were excited when we found out about this pop-up bar. I expected a little bit more from the decorations, but the Harry Potter medley light show they put on at the bar was pretty cool. Once that part is over though, they go back to playing music that is just a bit too loud.
I was pleasantly surprised by the drinks. They did not skimp on the alcohol.
Butter beer: really creamy and sweet. I love sweet drinks so this hit the spot.
Unicorn Blood: refreshing spritzer
Polly Potion: quite unique. It contains buzz button flower which is "nature's pop rocks," giving you that tingling sensation.
Nan's Headache Medicine: bartender sets the card on fire, revealing a spell.
We didn't order any food, so can't comment on how that is.
As mentioned by another reviewer, if you buy the $20 ticket ahead of time, you get the butter beer "for free." But when you take a look at the menu, it's actually only $16. So before you buy a ticket, maybe just try to walk in so you're not overpaying for that drink. Drink prices are just a teensy bit more expensive than other bars in SF that I've been to. But hey, you're also paying for the experience.
I'd recommend this place if you're with a group of friends, so you can try to sample all the drinks ;)Helpful 5Thanks 3Love this 3Oh no 0 - 52859Jul 20, 2024
Wizards & Wands is a great place for Harry Potter fans and those who know little about it. The atmosphere was magical with decorative pieces of Harry Potter, fun signs, drinks, and lively music. It wasn't those tacky bars with a poster and then called it a "theme." This was actually a Harry Potter bar.
There was a time when they played Harry Potter music and it was cool seeing the bar light up when the music started playing. This was a busy Saturday night but we managed to grab a table and enjoyed our drinks.
I've had Butter Beer before at Universal Studios but their Butter Beer included alcohol and it was delicious! Butter Beer $16 included brown butter with rum, butterscotch, vanilla, house cream soda topped with vanilla whip and caramel drizzle. Standard pricing for drinks at bars and the atmosphere made it worth it.
Our server was nice and she accommodated our requests. I would definitely recommend Potter Heads and muggles~!Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - Worawan P.Lower Nob Hill, San Francisco, CA2422Jul 29, 2024
We really wanted to have a fun experience and wanted to love this place. However, I hate the service and don't think I'm coming back.
I love the decor and the presentation of the drinks but the service almost ruined my Saturday night. The experience we received was 1 star as I felt like we were unwelcome by the server.
Kate As was rude. I work in this industry too and I was so surprised of how she treats customers.Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 6 - Jul 28, 20241 check-in
First time coming here and was suprised with a drag show! We went on Sunday around 2pm. I do wish that they updated their Instagram with information so we could have prepared better before going (knowing we wouldn't be able to take as many photos of the decor since it was very focused on the drag show and we didn't want to interrupt).
Drinks ordered:
Love Potion (9/10): the best looking drink out of all we ordered and the best tasting too. The mango was delicious and refreshing.
Polly Potion (7/10): a decent cocktail but I wish I could taste more pear and yuzu since it was very overpowered by the bourbon.
Irish Coffee (8/10): tasted the alcohol more than the coffee but pretty good. Alcohol was STRONG.
Cauldron Shot (9/10): gets a bit messy drinking out of the small cauldron if you're not careful with it but love the creativity!
The staff were very kind and helpful with choosing drinks as well.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 22, 20241 check-in
Wizards & Wands had great service - attentive and friendly. We went on a Friday at 6 pm and it was surprisingly empty.
The decor is all Harry Potter themed, which is fun at first, but it felt a little gimmicky overall. They have a lot of big group tables, but for couples or smaller groups, the only option was these really uncomfortable high-top tables with stools that offered zero back support and such tight leg room that my friend ended up standing the whole time.
The food and drinks were a mixed bag. The Butterbeer was decent, with a nice brown butter flavor, although the butterscotch was a bit weak. It ended up tasting mostly like cream soda towards the bottom.
The Cauldron Shot was a total letdown - just a shot of Baileys in a cool-looking cauldron shot glass that's way too wide to comfortably drink from (made for a funny struggle, though!).
The Three-Legged Fox cocktail was a miss for me - tasted more like grass. I gave up after two sips.
The Golden Arancini was okay (at this point, our expectations were quite low), but nothing special.
The Darko's oyster dip was actually quite good, with a rich umami flavor, but the portion size was tiny - barely enough chips to scoop up all the dip. Disappointing value for the price.
Overall, Wizards & Wands seems to prioritize presentation and the "wow factor" over substance. The drinks were uneven, and some were just plain weird, and the food, while okay, wasn't worth the premium price tag. If you're looking for a fun and immersive experience, it might be worth a visit, but for strong cocktails and well-priced bites, I'd look elsewhere.Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 1 - Jul 19, 20241 check-in
One of the many perks of traveling is getting the opportunity to visit theme bars! While visiting SF, I stopped into Wizards & Wands for drinks with my mister. Once you enter the bar, you're magically transported to the wizarding world of Harry Potter. With Harry Potter theme music playing when you enter the bar, one's gaze goes to the candles floating from the ceiling and the mural of the great hall. This bar is also known for craft cocktails and Harry Potter-themed items on the menu.
We ordered and enjoyed-
Polly potion
Unicorns blood
Nan's headache medicine
Smoke and mirrors
The drinks were great! I'd have to say my favorite drink was the smoke and mirrors. The menu items looked delectable, but we were not hungry during our visit. I hope to return to Wizards & wands to try food from their menu. We had excellent service and a magical experience during our visit!Helpful 2Thanks 1Love this 1Oh no 0 - Jul 18, 20241 check-in
Nice to have been here but.....
Decor was great, including sounds and synced light show
Our server was great but we felt bad there was only one of him attending to a full house!
Whimsical and cute looking drinks and food yet these were the reason for the "but"
Phoenix Fries - yes, good! No complains here
Drako's Oyster Dip - this was a winner!
Deviled Dragon Egg - just cute, this we don't recommend
Three-Legged Fox - as a mocktail, not so great hahaha
Love Potion - Good slushie but could use more tequila haha
Wizard Rock Cafe - just cute! Almost unedible. The burnt/smoke taste on the cake was terrible.
Yes, we would recommend for peeps to visit and try. Yet for us, once is enough.
Wish they had the naughty waffle on their dinner menu hahahaHelpful 3Thanks 2Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 15, 2024
What an amazing experience honestly. Our friends were in town and we took them to this magical bar since both of them are big fans of Harry Potter and they couldn't have been happier.
From the moment you enter this bar it really does feel like you are on a Harry Potter set. The menu, the decor every little detail is amazing.
Our group tried some cocktails - Unicorn Blood, Polly Potion and Butter Beer was definitely the favourite among my friends. All the cocktails were well balanced and I personally liked the Unicorn Blood because it was sweet and very refreshing.
Overall we had a really good time at this place and would 100% come back to try more cocktails and some food.Helpful 0Thanks 1Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 3, 2024
This was on my to do list while in town and my inner wizard was so happy I was able to go. The theming was amazing, the drinks were delicious and themed well. I got the butterbeer and it was so good. It's not too sweet and the foam on top was so good, I could have drank a cup of just that! My friend got the banana baby which is a little sweeter but doesn't taste like pure sugar.
There was one bartender working when we went on Monday evening. She was super friendly and warned us she was the one making the drinks and serving them and asked for patience which we were totally understanding of. I will say it was a little stuffy inside, but it could have also been because we walked from the Applebees at the wharf to the bar, so we could have just been overheated from walking up and down Lombard St.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 1 - Jun 22, 2024
As far as novelty bars go, this one is a 10/10! I never knew this place existed in SF until I was just zooming into Google maps in the marina area, and I'm so glad I found it. From the moment we walked in, we were amazed at the decor, the service, the ambiance and the food/drinks!
We came in at 7:30 on a Tuesday before a holiday and it was already packed but we got sat at the bar. The Harry Potter soundtrack was playing and there was a accompanying light show happening too which was awesome to walk into!
I honestly recommend trying anything on the menu, because we tried a lot and thought everything was so tasty.
For drinks, we got a classic Butterbeer (which was just as tasty as you'd imagine), the 3 legged fox (which came in a cool mossy rock covered bowl and a liquid nitrogen show), the Polly potion (has a numbing buzz button flower which miraculously changes the flavor of the drink) and the Unicorn Blood (which was so pretty to look at because it was so sparkly). All of these drinks were a 10/10. Other than the Butterbeer I really liked the 3 legged fox because it was like an alcoholic green juice!!
For food, we tried the fish and chips (which has really well cooked fish according to those that tried it since I'm vegetarian), Phoenix fries (so crunchy yet soft and the seasoning was amazing) and pretzel wands (which were like a classic soft pretzel). I love a good French fry and this place knew how to do it. For vegetarian options, it is mostly snacking foods, but they are huggge portions of that food, so I was able to enjoy a dinner here.
Service was great too. Our server was super attentive and always remembered what we needed even though the place was so busy.
I will definitely be back!! Definitely recommend if you are a Harry Potter fan, but even if you aren't I think you'd have a great time.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
