Dinner before a show at the Fox, stayed at the Element Hotel next door
We arrived at their 5:00pm opening and sat the bar. Matt took great care of us.
Home made chips, cheesy churro, pork belly sliders and the scallop dish. All very tasty and were delivered hot from the kitchen.
Wright and Co serves amazing food, not a "meat and potatoes " place , but a very foodie shared plate restaurant

Definitely have mixed feelings about this place. The ambiance is amazing. It's giving vintage, industrial with a splash of contemporary. I love how you have to take an elevator to the restaurant (like a secret location).

The menu was disheartening. The options are mad limited. I was not impressed. It literally took my 30 minutes to find a suitable meal. I finally kept it safe and ordered the half chicken and brussels. Portion sizes are small but skillfully displayed. The restaurant was on my list for quite some time but I was rather disappointed by the selection. Hopefully there's more to come with the menu. I'm willing to give it another try, only because I loved the vibe so much.

I had a mixed experience with the food here last night. What I loved:

      CREEKSTONE FARMS
      BISTRO TENDER
creamy semolina, fermented blueberry & leek, duck demi-glace

      WILD LINE CAUGHT WALU
sunflower & mushroom risotto, roasted hen of the woods,
      sunflower milk, porcini dust

      CRISPY BROCCOLINI
soy milk soubise, bourbon glazed cipollini, scallion pesto

      What I liked:

      RICOTTA & PARMESAN CHURRO
      ricotta, brown butter, parmigiano reggiano,
      braised peppercorns, fried sage

      ARTISANAL CHEESE BOARD
artisanal selections, rotating accompaniments, toasted bread

What I would skip next time:

      CRISPY CHICKPEAS
buffalo spiced, blue cheese, micro celery

      SALAD OF SHAVED WINTER ROOTS
barrel-aged fish sauce, yuzu, burnt peanut, shaved fresnos, toasted shrimp panko, mint

I was actually expecting the winter roots to be roasted instead of raw. I would have enjoyed that salad so much more had the vegetables been roasted.

The service was good last night. I felt like our meal was nicely paced.

I think I would have enjoyed not being seated in one of those odd, rounded booths--they are awkward for 4 people to talk at dinner.

I definitely think this place was worth trying, and I would focus on the menu items that I thought were delicious over the ones that weren't so great.

This was an average dining experience - I don't think this restaurant is worth a special trip.
The sliders and churro were awesome and the highlights of the meal. The root vegetable salad was way underseasoned and not that interesting - it had the potential to be bright and acidic and punchy but it was just tame and boring. The hash brown was overly vinergary and didn't really taste like potatoes, though the chive sour cream was yummy. The mushroom and sunflower sides with the walu were so so tasty, and the walu was perfectly cooked, but they didn't seem to go together well, so it felt like eating 2 different dishes. Service was good and the ambiance is lovely.

This place is super vibey. It is industrial but sleek. There's exposed brick and super cool ceilings. We were celebrating my husband's birthday. We were seated in a cool booth. The service was amazing where my water glass was never empty. We were well taken care of. The drinks were extraordinary. My husband loved both of his mocktails. They were legit mocktails with non alcoholic spirits which was nice to see. I had the down in Mexico and desert sun. Both were super balanced and flavorful. I love the use of mezcal. The food we got was mixed. Some plates were great and others were not as good.

Pork belly sliders: these were so tasty! The pork belly was crispy, the bun was toasted perfectly, and I loved the heat from the sriracha.

The lump crab and lobster toast: it was seasoned well and the bread was toasted nicely. It was not worth $30 for the amount of seafood you received. We had maybe 3 tiny pieces of lobster.

Ricotta churro: this was so rich and decadent. There was way too much of it, but I liked the pepper to cut the richness. It needed something else to cut the fat.

The leg of lamb: this was disappointing. The lamb was so dry and flavorless. It was super tough to eat. The crunchiness of the barley and pomegranates were nice and I liked the vinegar in the frisée.

Cheesey hash browns: there was nothing cheesey about them. I expected it to be gooey and have a strong vinegar taste. It was super dense and did not have cheese in it at all.

Overall we had a great experience. We would come back for happy hour, but nothing that made us want to come back for a specific item.

We were so excited for dinner here, but unfortunately after our experience I won't return. We were so disappointed with our experience. We ordered the potato chips, gnocchi churro, roasted broccolini, and scallops.

The dirty martinis tasted like rubbing alcohol and were quite literally the most disgusting I have ever had.

The potato chips were good, I will say that! The gnocchi came out and it was cold! We asked if it was supposed to be that way and the manager told us the freezer was "too cold" and that he could not get us another but that we could get something else. So we opted for the turnips.

We received the scallops and broccolini next. The scallops were delicious and tasted like butter! However, the broccolini was so crispy that it was charred. We received the turnips and they were disgusting. We did not finish the gnocchi, turnips, or broccoli.

If you want fine dining with delicious food, I would go elsewhere because this is not the place.

Visited in 2016 and now again in 2023 - Wright & Co has definitely become a Detroit staple for a nice dinner right in the heart of everything. We had a reservation for a Wednesday night and I'd say it was needed unless you're ok with snagging a spot up at the bar. Service was just ok - our waiter was a little lackadaisical but the drinks/food came out quickly.

For drinks - I ordered the Cruel Summer, which had a nice presentation and tasted fabulous. My friend tried Into The Woods and also really enjoyed it. For food, we split the pork belly sliders as an appetizer, which was a winner. And for my main, I went with the scallops, which were scrumptious! On the other hand, my friend tried the seasonal pumpkin risotto and did not like it - she said the flavors were off so maybe some dishes are hit or miss. Prices are on par for a nice restaurant downtown, so it was a treat for us. But I still hope to return sooner than another 7 years!

This is a very unique tavern, gastropub -restaurant that offers both craft cocktails and small plates that you cannot find anywhere else in downtown Detroit.
Located in the heart of the downtown area that's close enough to sport and concert venues that make this a great place to go on your way to an event.
We had a 5:00pm reservation but wasn't able to enter the establishment using the keypad outside the only entrance door.
The person who answered the phone said they weren't open yet although it was 4:59. Yikes.
Someone exiting the front door allowed us to enter and take the elevator to the second floor where the restaurant is located.
We were not the first patrons that were in the establishment.

Very cool vibe to this place. Tried the sweet potato Gnocchi and grilled Sea Scallop plates and was NOT disappointed! Tried the Pink Elephant and Spill the Tea drinks and they were amazing! Service was top tier.

This restaurant is truly a gem! I'm always a little skeptical when trying trendy restaurants in Detroit, as the food doesn't always live up to the expectation. I was truly impressed with my experience here! The restaurant has an elegant ambiance with beautiful art and a few industrial elements that are so fitting for Detroit! Service also exceeded expectations. The style of this restaurant is small plates, and it's appropriate to order 2-3 plates per person. Their menu is on the pricier side and the plates are not very traditional. This is definitely not for everyone, but I truly appreciated how creative and unique each dish was.

We started with the winter root salad and cheesy hash brown starters. The salad had a mix of carrots, radish, and a few herbs I could pick out. Nothing too crazy but it was very light and a nice way to start the meal. The hash brown was so delicious! It had a beautiful fluffy texture with a perfect crispy layer and served with a creamy, tangy sauce. It reminded me of a unique take on a baked potato. We also went with the scallop, half chicken, and Malu white fish dishes for our mains. The scallop dish was served with a blend of apple and potato pieces, served with an herb and dijon spread. I never would have imagined these flavors to work well together but this was absolutely delicious! The half chicken was served over a sweet potato mash and bok choy. Again, awesome blend of flavors and this was my partner's favorite dish of the night! Lastly, we went with the Malu white fish. The fish itself was cooked to perfection. It was light, flaky, moist, and served with a tangy white sauce. The only thing that disappointed was the risotto the fish was served with. It was mixed with sunflower seeds which gave a nice texture but it left the risotto a little to grainy and I would have liked a more rich and creamy element to this. We ended the night with the butterscotch pudding. This was a little on the heavy side but so creamy and tasty! Definitely recommend splitting this with at least one or two other people.

After looking at some of the other reviews, I notice some mixed feelings on the food. I personally loved my experience but would recommend having an open mind and more adventurous taste palate if you come check out this place! I definitely hope to be back!
