We're visiting New Orleans in November for a girls weekend.  We are staying on Bourbon Street and since I'm planning this bash I'm interested in finding a nice place that will accept a large group.  Every time we go it's party, party, party and this year I would like to get dressed up nice and enjoy a nice dinner.  Just looking for some friendly suggestions, thanks!

  1. Well lets see if you have a sense of humor.

Lucky Dog on the corner of Bourbon and St. Peter is always a great spot. Large groups welcome. Dress code is not enforced.

How large is your group?  You have several options.  Help us narrow it a bit.

  2. Price, style of food, walkability, adventurous or traditional.  We have a gazillion good restaurants.  So you need to help us out.

I've been to New Orleans a few times with huge groups of people 12+ and we went to a couple places that were really great with large groups and they are right in the middle of the quarter

    Court of Two Sisters

They have a really lovely court yard lit up with little white lights, the food isn't going to blow your mind but it is nice ambiance

    The Gumbo Shop

First, you should know there are two restaurants on the same street called the gumbo shop. This is the good one. We didn't give these poor guys any notice and the accommodated a group of 12 no problem. I don't like most meat so this place really made my day with their vegetarian gumbo.

Do you absolutely want to stay in the quarter or would you be ok with going uptown or to the garden district?

The locals probably have by far better educated information but there's my two cents. Have fun!

There will be 12 - 14. Cajun/creole, seafood, French, steaks.  We would like to stay in the vicinity. Thanks!

People who gargle beef seem to like Star Steakhouse and Dickie Brennan's. (Well, "like" and "Star" in the same sentence isn't always accurate, but I digress...)

  3. Dickie Brennan's steakhouse, Maximo's (italian), Bon Ton Cafe (cajun/creole located in CBS on Magazine), Arnuad's, Antoine's, Mr B's, Brennan's and Bacco. Any of these places would fit your needs. They are a little fancier and all have excellent food.

Mr. B's, Brennan's and Dickie Brennan's are all operated by one of New Orleans' premier restaurant families. The same family started Commander's Palace. If you don't mind traveling outside of the Quarter I would highly recommend Commanders. Just make reservations early. It has a strict dress code and wonderful food.

Friday lunch at Gallatoire's.  Get mimosas somewhere and get in line at 10:30.
