A group of us are coming to New Orleans in September. We are looking for a good haunted tour (not a cheesy one). We would also be interested in any other sights or fun things to do while there......festivals, other good tours, etc. Or any restaurant recommendations would be helpful......nice but not super fancy/gourmet. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

French Quarter Phantoms is a really good tour and you can book it at the stand on 613 Decatur, they cover ghosts, vampires, and werewolfs, the same place can book you all the other city , plantation and swamp tours. For restaurants, I am the Chef at Roux On Orleans 504 571 4604 and we have a great local following and very afforadable local cuisine.

    Hi, Julie.

Let me be the first to point you to the NOLA.com festival guide for September: nola.com/festivals/index…

Also, let me tell you that your query is vague so my answer will be suitably vague: I like Cowbell, Juan's, Capdeville, Dat Dog, Sucre, Saltwater Grill, Cafe du Monde at the Riverwalk, and Zara's for poboys...none of which are in the Quarter. Are you looking for food in a specific part of town? Knowing where you want to be is always helpful.

The best tour (although not a haunted one) is Confederacy of Cruisers, which is a bike tour. I love bikes, and I love tours so this seems like an ideal match for me. But I live here so I usually give my guests a custom "Suzanne eats her way through New Orleans with you" tour instead. At some point, I'll actually take one of the myriad tours our fine city offers and yelp some feedback.

Actually, looking at my food list, I don't have very good taste in food. I should remedy that.

There is absolutely nothing to do in New Orleans in September.  Not a thing.

Or...you could just go here and scroll down to September: neworleansonline.com/new…

And look at my lists, I have a lot of awesome stuff reviewed!  They only haunted tour I know of is the Haunted History tour.  :-D

  1. Hey Julie. You will have a blast here.

I suggest you upload a photo. You are far more likely to get help if you have a real photo of yourself. We wont judge looks, but we like to know we are helping real people. Orangeheads (those without photos) are suspicious.

True story. On my first date with my now wife, we couldn't decide between a horse carriage ride or a haunted tour. I made the executive decision; a haunted carriage ride. We found a good looking carriage and told the driver we wanted a haunted tour. He said he didn't really know anything about the haunted parts of New Orleans.  I told him to just make some shot up. It was fun and I somehow even got a second date.

    Damn you, auto-correct!

  2. Only great haunted tour I ever took was in St. Francisville (about 2 hours upriver from New Orleans) at the Myrtles Mansion. Super creepy.

I tried to post about people taking off their clothes in September for the better part of an hour, but Yelp's servers were having none of that.

@ John - I totally judge and provide assistance based on looks.  I've heard labor day is a great weekend to come down.  Not much going on, nice weather....

For the last 10 years (except the week of katrina) we have brought a group to NO in September.  For the last 6 years we have had French Quarter Phantoms talk to our group and do tours for them.  They are the most knowledgeable people I know about the Quarter.  I would recommend them highly. Also the "Creole Queen" paddle boat offers a two hour Dinner/Jazz trip up the river for a very good price. The food is good, the jazz is great and the paddle trip relaxing.

Also, other than Southern Decadence, there isn't much as far as big festivals or events at that time.  With the exception of Saints games (dear lord, let there be games), September is still a bit in the dead season.  As far as haunted tours go, I would go with either FQ Phantoms or Haunted History.
