Any nightlife recommendations other than clubbing or bar hopping?  Looking to mix it up a bit...

  1. are we on a budget?  what are our interests?  jazz?  shows?  beach blanket babylon?  hate answering a question with questions.

ok, so this might be a little lame, but I'm thinking like late night arcades for adults... or a chill hookah bar (tried sunshine coast but the seats suck)... still want something where it's more interactive, not like a movie or shows

There are no late night arcades for adults in SF.  I don't do hookah so no clue.  There's that one late-night hookah bar near union square and that other one on polk.  That's all I know . Good luck on your search.

Thanks, Jason... anyone know of a k-box with a good English selection?  Only one I've been to is  Do Re Mi Music Studio, which made for a fun late night activity.

Ok, seriously. I've been going to more comedy clubs lately. It's a good change from bars/clubs + you still have the option to drink I you feel the need.

...and I like the Punchline better than Cobb's.

Been to Cobb's a few times, but I'll have to try the Punchline for sure.

The Punchline is more comfortable and intimate. Obviously the performer is the most important part of any comedy club. I went to the Punchline on my Birthday and the waitress and headliner sucked. I've always had a great time there every other time I've been there.

The last time I went to Cobb's, I saw Greg Giraldo (one of my favorite comedians) so I still had a great time.

PS: Greg Giraldo will be at the Punchline in Jan 2nd and 3rd

Ok, so sort of new to SF and the smoking rules... can you smoke at billiard halls?  I'm thinking a night at a pool hall with a girly, flavored cigar is just the thing!

Christena: it is illegal to smoke in any public establishment in the state of California... so you can smoke OUTSIDE the pool hall, but unless they have a properly-ventilated room set aside specifically for smoking, you can't smoke inside. I think the rule is that you have to be 100 feet away from the doors, but I don't know for sure.

  2. you can try hukilau for hawaiian food and music on weekends.

Thanks, Mike!  Hukilau would be totally new and different for me.  Definitely worth checking out at least once.  And yeah, love the karaoke after a few drinks! :P
