Being an average Sydney renter for the past few years means I’ve never really put that much thought into decorating a home.
You can’t really alter very much in a rental so I’ve steered clear of putting nails in the walls or curtains over the windows because at the end of the day it’s not really my house.
But buying a property has completely altered that mentality and naturally, I’m now scouring the internet for all manner of kitschy decor and homewares to add fun and flair to each room.

I actually came across the Lenox spice village on Instagram at first.
It’s a grouping of porcelain “houses” that can be used in place of traditional spice jars and they each have their own colour, style and shape.
First appearing on the scene in about 1989, they’ve been discontinued for more than three decades but have seen a resurgence recently after a group of millennials spotted them in a thrift shop.
Unfortunately, their rise in popularity has made getting your hands on them very difficult and the collectibles are almost $150 a house so I’d have to take out a second mortgage just to craft my village filled with sugar, spice and everything nice.
But there is a second option.
Amazon Australia actually sells much of the Lenox-branded homewares, including a secondary style of spice jar that’s just as cute.
The Lenox Butterfly Meadow Cooking Spice Jars come in a pack of four for $95.26 and the Lenox Butterfly Meadow Baking Spice Jars are also a pack of four for $127.58.
Expensive? Yes. But the perfect gift for a home styling enthusiast or English cottage owner? Absolutely.
Amazon is actually home to many of the Lenox pieces so you can build out an entire collection but I’ll just be taking one bite of the cherry at a time.
“Very sweet, they will look great in my new apartment,” one woman wrote of her purchase.
“Adorable spice jars have the names of spices on them. I would prefer not having anything written as I don’t use any of those spices that are written but they’re good quality as most of the Lenox products are,” said another.
A third added: “I love anything Lenox and I’m now starting to collect these seasoning jars. They’re too cute.”
