#TeamDEWR Secretary Natalie James spoke at our Employment Services Provider forum yesterday about uncovering unconscious bias and improving women’s experience in the labour market. Nat reflected on the two years since Workforce Australia for Individuals commenced, what we’ve achieved since with 415, 855 people placed into jobs, and how we can evolve in the direction of the employment services reform. Key insights were shared and showed women have a lower job placement rate. This raises the question on how we should be supporting women when we engage with them throughout the journey. “I wonder what we need to do different to ensure that this system is working for women, and not against them. We need to make the unconscious bias more conscious,” Nat said. This forum was a great opportunity to open the discussion directly with #TeamDEWR staff and employment services providers on supporting women now and into the future. We are excited to be working with See Me Please, a startup focusing on usability testing by disabled and diverse users, offering genuine accessibility insights. #TeamDEWR has set out a vision for an inclusive workplace culture, and partnering with See Me Please is part of our journey towards doing better. We have partnered with them to gain insights and feedback on services we provide, starting with Workforce Australia for Individuals. See Me Please recently ran a department wide webinar with all-star panelists sharing their fascinating stories and lived experiences. The session was a great success and an opportunity to build awareness of diverse and disabled user needs when it comes to online services. We thank Katie and her team's collaboration and are eager to expand this partnership, learning from those with firsthand experiences. Let’s work together to make our digital tools more inclusive!
