LAS VEGAS — Phoenix Suns big Mason Plumlee has been elected the National Basketball Players Association’s new secretary-treasurer by the NBPA board of player representatives, NPBA announced Saturday.

“I’m honored that my peers have entrusted me with this important responsibility,” said Plumlee in a news release. “At this point in my career, I wanted to take on a leadership role within the NBPA to get more involved in the business side of our game and apply the lessons I’ve learned during my time in the league to put our players in the best position for success on and off the court.”

Plumlee, 34, is replacing San Antonio Spurs forward Harrison Barnes and will begin his three-year term immediately.

“We are excited to welcome Mason as the new secretary-treasurer,” said CJ McCollum, President of the NBPA, in a news release. “Mason has been a consummate professional in our league, and he will be an excellent resource for our leadership team and all players alike. I want to thank Harrison Barnes for serving on our executive committee over the last three years. We are grateful for Harrison’s contributions and commitment throughout his tenure, especially during our most recent collective bargaining negotiations. We know he will continue to stay close as we build a stronger union for current and future generations of players.”

The Suns signed Plumlee as a free agent to a one-year deal for $3.3 million this summer.

Entering his 12th NBA season, Plumlee played his last two seasons for the Los Angeles Clippers.

The NBPA executive committee is as follows:

•            CJ McCollum, President.

•            Grant Williams, First Vice President.

•            Mason Plumlee, Secretary-Treasurer.

•            Bismack Biyombo, Vice President.

•            Malcolm Brogdon, Vice President.

•            Jaylen Brown, Vice President.

•            Jaren Jackson Jr, Vice President.

•            Donovan Mitchell, Vice President.

•            Garrett Temple, Vice President.

Biyombo played two seasons for the Suns (2021-23). He spent time with the Memphis Grizzlies and Oklahoma City Thunder last season.
