Referbacks[]

  • Osaka appears for the first time in this chapter, after Yukari told the class that a new transfer student from Osaka would arrive soon.
  • Earlier, we find out that Masaaki Ohyama is a good student. In this chapter, Yukari asks him to answer a question instead of Kasuga, who had not been listening.

Trivia[]

Characters[]

Cultural References[]

  • When Kaorin finds out that Sakaki's parents won't let her have any pets, the former suggests that Sakaki get a "P-pet" instead, which other students also talk about, but Sakaki has no idea what the term means. This is a reference to the Japanese e-mail service "PostPet" that allows users to raise electronic pets who deliver mail.
  • The girls find out that they will get a new classmate from Osaka. Tomo worries that this girl will turn out to be her new rival, and "come equipped with serious comedy putdowns." She also asks Yomi to "tell her off with a 'Whut yew mean?' ('Nande ya nen?')" so that Tomo can practice an appropriate reaction. This is a reference to the city of Osaka being famous for sketch comedy, and since Ayumu Kasuga is from Osaka, Tomo expects her to be something of a comedian and very noisy. This is why she worries about Kasuga becoming her new rival.
  • Chihiro asks Kasuga if people really call McDonald's "McD's" in Osaka. Kasuga confirms this.
  • Yukari says she wanted to buy the new PlayStation game during her break and complains about the lines which made her late for class.

Unanswered Questions[]

  • We do not know how, or if, the boy whose bike Yukari stole got it back. The event is never mentioned again.
  • It is not specified why Ayumu Kasuga transferred from Osaka to the school that the events of the manga center around.
  • Who the "very good friend" of Yukari's that got married was is unknown.
  • Yukari says she likes games because they let you forget about real life and have fun, as well as give you the possibility to reset and start over fresh. This makes her students wonder what her backstory is, but precisely what Yukari wanted to forget or reset is not further discussed.

Memorable Moments[]

  • Tomo says "Is this the appearance of my new rival!?" when she hears that they will get a new classmate from Osaka, thinking that Kasuga will be loud and annoying, like herself.
  • Ayumu Kasuga's first appearance, which surprises everyone since she's the very opposite of the stereotypical Osakan. Tomo even calls her "IMPOSTOR!!"
  • In this chapter is the first hint of Kasuga being slow and stuck in her own thoughts most of the time, right after she decided she would try and turn things around now that she had started in a new school.
  • Ayumu Kasuga is, to date, the only one who has ever been defeated by Chiyo-chan in a foot-race. We find out here that they are both terrible at P.E.
