Carolina Hurricanes center Martin Necas and New York Rangers defenseman Ryan Lindgren highlight the list of 14 players who will file for salary arbitration this offseason, per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman (h/t ProHockeyRumors' Brennan McClain).

The number of players filing for arbitration is down from the 22 players who filed last offseason.

The 25-year-old Necas is coming off a season in which he scored 24 goals and had 29 assists for the Hurricanes. After Carolina's playoff exit, Necas reportedly became a potential trade candidate, but it seems the Hurricanes will instead try to find an agreeable deal with the restricted free agent.

The Rangers were reportedly "grinding" on finding Lindgren the long-term deal he's seeking, but filing for arbitration likely means he won't get the extension he's wanting this offseason. He will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2024-25 season, where can search for a bigger contract either with New York or elsewhere.

Here's a look at the full list of players filing for arbitration:

  • Beck Malenstyn (Buffalo Sabres)
  • Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen (Buffalo Sabres)
  • Martin Necas (Carolina Hurricanes)
  • Jack Drury (Carolina Hurricanes)
  • Jake Christiansen (Columbus Blue Jackets)
  • Jet Greaves (Columbus Blue Jackets)
  • Kirill Marchenko (Columbus Blue Jackets)
  • Joe Veleno (Detroit Red Wings)
  • Spencer Stastney (Nashville Predators)
  • Oliver Wahlstrom (New York Islanders)
  • Ryan Lindgren (New York Rangers)
  • Ty Emberson (San Jose Sharks)
  • JJ Moser (Tampa Bay Lightning)
  • Connor Dewar (Toronto Maple Leafs)

Arbitration hearings give players and teams a chance to present their given salary in front of a neutral third party, who then comes to a decision about what the player's salary should be for the given year.

Arbitration hearings are scheduled for July 20 to Aug. 4, though teams and players can settle on a number before then.
