The sweaters are hung. The zambonis are stowed.

So it's official: The NHL's offseason is off and running.

But that doesn't mean the buzz on the hockey meter has leveled off, given the recency of the two-day draft at the Sphere in Las Vegas and the initial throes of frenzied free agency.

The first wave of moves means the title legitimacy of some teams has spiked while others have dipped, and the B/R hockey team is only too happy to wade in with help from the numbers guys at DraftKings to take a look at the early odds to hoist the 2025 Stanley Cup.

We've tiered off the 32 teams based on those numbers, going from the already prepping for the lottery crowd on one end to the uppermost of the upper crust on the other.

Take a look at what we came up with and drop a thought of your own in the comments.

Playing for the Lottery

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JUNE 28: Macklin Celebrini poses for a portrait after being selected first overall by the San Jose Sharks during the 2024 Upper Deck NHL Draft at Sphere on June 28, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Mark Blinch/NHLI via Getty Images)

    32. San Jose Sharks (+40000)

Should they win more than 19 of 82 games next season, particularly if Macklin Celebrini plays as advertised? Yes. Will there be any reason to stake out an early parade spot? No.

    31. (tie) Anaheim Ducks (+20000)

Another season in which the Ducks will arrive with one of the league's top collections of young talent. And another season in which they will not earn a second championship.

    31. (tie) Columbus Blue Jackets (+20000)

Who knows? Maybe teaming Sean Monahan with Johnny Gaudreau in middle Ohio will instantly bring the Blue Jackets to on-ice relevance. But probably not.

    29. Chicago Blackhawks (+15000)

The Blackhawks will certainly take a step forward in Year 2 of the Connor Bedard era as the front office provides some new weapons alongside him. But contention is a ways off.

    28. Montreal Canadiens (+12000)

A long-term commitment to recent No. 1 overall pick Juraj Slafkovsky is a nice enough sign that the Canadiens are headed the right way. They're far closer to 32 than 1, though.

Not Quite the Worst

WASHINGTON, DC - APRIL 28: Alex Ovechkin #8 of the Washington Capitals shakes hands with New York Rangers head coach Peter Laviolette in the hand shake line in Game Four of the First Round of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs at Capital One Arena on April 28, 2024 in Washington, D.C. 27. Calgary Flames (+7500)

GM Craig Conroy was busy with signing the likes of Anthony Mantha, Ryan Lomberg, and Jake Bean, and extending Yegor Sharangovich, but this is not an elite team in the Pacific.

    25. (tie) Philadelphia Flyers (+6000)

The Flyers should be interesting to watch with KHL import Matvei Michkov but who knows how he'll meld with John Tortorella? That'll be the most compelling watch in Philly.

    25. (tie) Washington Capitals (+6000)

You want to argue that the busy Capitals deserve to be somewhere higher than the second-to-last tier, we'll listen. Still, that doesn't translate to anything near title relevance.

    22. (tie) Utah Hockey Club (+5500)

The same description could apply to the artists formerly known as the Coyotes, who upgraded the blue line and won't be awful. The Pacific is too loaded by comparison.

    22. (tie) Seattle Kraken (+5500)

Some feel better about the Kraken's signings of Chandler Stephenson and Brandon Montour than others, but there's got to be more agreement that they're up against it in the West.

    22. (tie) St. Louis Blues (+5500)

Pavel Buchnevich will be in the St. Louis fold for the long term after agreeing to a six-year, $48 million extension. He, Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou will be OK, but not much better.

    21. Buffalo Sabres (+5000)

Are they younger, cheaper, and harder to play against? Yes. Do the likes of Jason Zucker, Ryan McLeod, and Sam Lafferty equate to a guaranteed end to the playoff drought? No.

Pretending to Contend

    19. (tie) New York Islanders (+4500)

Winger Anthony Duclair is a good, targeted signing for four years and $14 million and he'll add something but not enough to make a significant springtime difference.

    19. (tie) Pittsburgh Penguins (+4500)

The Penguins made more news by not coaxing Jake Guentzel to return and not landing any top free agents than for anything they actually did. Cue the Sidney Crosby extension chatter.

    17. (tie) Detroit Red Wings (+4000)

Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko have five Cup hoists and 764 regular-season goals between them, but they'll also be a combined 67 years old come opening night.

    17. (tie) Minnesota Wild (+4000)

The Wild remained stuck in playoff borderline limbo for the 2023-24 season and nothing they've done so far this summer seems likely to change it going forward.

    16. Ottawa Senators (+3500)

Linus Ullmark never won a Cup in Boston so there's no real reason to believe he brings one to Canada's capital city. The Senators have a chance to compete for the playoffs, though.

    14. (tie) Winnipeg Jets (+2500)

At times in 2023-24, the Jets looked to be elite. Then they flamed out with nary a whimper. So long as Connor Hellebuyck is around they're relevant, but they'll have to prove it.

    14. (tie) Tampa Bay Lightning (+2500)

The two Cups and a third finals appearance suddenly seem a million years ago. Getting Jake Guentzel slows the fall from the top tier but it's hard to imagine a sudden return to the top.

So You're Saying There's a Chance

    12. (tie) Los Angeles Kings (+2200)

The DraftKings guys seem a little higher on the Kings than is warranted, given which players left town and which ones came back. To call them a dark horse seems too big a reach.

    12. (tie) Vancouver Canucks (+2200)

Unlike Los Angeles, Vancouver won a division title and got within an eyelash of the Western final in 2023-24, which legitimizes their place. Still, free agency seemed a net loss.

    10. (tie) Boston Bruins (+1800)

The Bruins weren't close to a Cup last season but the arrival of Elias Lindholm and Nikita Zadorov does inch them up in terms of street cred, presuming Jeremy Swayman is a No. 1.

    10. (tie) Nashville Predators (+1800)

Whether you consider the Predators a Cup contender depends on how close you felt they were at the end of 2023-24. There's zero argument, though, that they've not gotten closer.

    9. Vegas Golden Knights (+1600)

Any team just one season removed from a title run ought to be included near the top, but the Golden Knights have fallen behind some foes thanks to multiple free-agency losses.

Won't Surprise Anyone

EDMONTON, CANADA - JUNE 02: Mason Marchment #27 of the Dallas Stars celebrates his third-period goal against the Edmonton Oilers with teammates Chris Tanev #3 and Tyler Seguin #91 in Game Six of the Western Conference Final of the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs at Rogers Place on June 2, 2024, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. 4. (tie) Carolina Hurricanes (+1300)

It may be a slight overvalue of the Hurricanes here, considering they fell short of the Eastern finals last season and seem to have lost more than they gained in the free-agency process.

    4. (tie) Colorado Avalanche (+1300)

The Avalanche are two seasons removed from their Cup, and, unlike Vegas, they seem to have done enough to maintain near-tier title contention status. They're a legit threat.

    4. (tie) New Jersey Devils (+1300)

You go ahead and figure out the Devils. They fell from third overall to 23rd last season, but adding Jacob Markstrom in the net re-elevates them to high-end contender status.

    4. (tie) New York Rangers (+1300)

The Rangers won the Presidents' Trophy and were up 2-1 on Florida in the Eastern finals but it clearly didn't work out for a 30th anniversary title. Still, they're certainly still in the mix.

    4. (tie) Toronto Maple Leafs (+1300)

No, Maple Leafs fans, we're not trying to bait you. We know it's a sensitive subject. But a team with as much skill as there is here is going to be hyped. Too much? Perhaps.

    3. Dallas Stars (+1100)

Think the Rangers are bummed? They've got nothing on the Stars, who were up 2-1 on the Oilers in the Western final but lost in Game 6 with a 34-10 shot advantage. They're close.

The Upper Crust

    2. Florida Panthers (+900)

It's impossible to devalue the Panthers. They're the champs. They re-signed their highest-profile free agent in Sam Reinhart. Some losses, too, but a repeat title would be no shock.

    1. Edmonton Oilers (+850)

Anyone for a rematch? Presuming they re-up Leon Draisaitl, the Oilers are chalk to return to the SCF considering they added Jeff Skinner and Viktor Arvidsson, kept Adam Henrique, and bought out Jack Campbell. If Stuart Skinner holds up, Edmonton is a viable favorite.
