It's an Olympics ✨ femininomenon! ✨ It's officially been a week since the #Olympics Games have started, so here are a few of the *many* women's wins this week: 🏊♀️ Katie Ledecky wins her 13th medal in the Olympics, making her the most decorated woman in U.S. Olympic history. She is also first female swimmer to win gold at four different games. 🏓 Zeng Zhiying made her Olympic debut at 58-years old for Chile in table tennis after she missed out on being selected to represent China in the 1984 Olympics. 🥇 Simone Biles is now the most decorated U.S. gymnast in history. The three-time Olympian now has a total of nine Olympic medals, six of them being gold. 🔫 OH Ye Jin and Kim Yeji both beat the previous record of 240.3 for shooting the 10M air pistol by scoring 243.2 and 241.3 respectively. The two women placed in first and second, taking home two medals for Korea. 🦋 Two-time Olympic champion, Canadian swimmer, McIntosh became the first Canadian woman to take gold in the 400-metre medley and also set *two* Olympic records this week. 🤺 Egyptian Olympic fencer, Hafez took to Instagram this week that she is competing while currently seven-months pregnant. “The rollercoaster of pregnancy is tough on its own, but having to fight to keep the balance of life & sports was nothing short of strenuous, however worth it.” 🤸♀️ Rebeca Andrade, who suffered three ACL tears in a matter of four years, scored 57.932 in the all-around competition and took home silver for Brazil. 🇧🇷 Brazilian gymnast, Flavia Saraiva, suffered a fall during her warm-up due to the uneven bars, leaving her with a black eye and a bloody cut. However, she still helped lead Brazil to their first-ever Olympic medal in women's gymnastics despite her injury and took home the bronze medal. 🏉 The U.S. women’s rugby sevens team wins their first-ever Olympic medal in a dramatic win! “We say in rugby a lot that we want to pass the jersey. You’re passing through the jersey, it’s not yours it’s the next person’s….I think today really made the jersey better so that other young girls can grow up wanting to play rugby, wanting to be professionals, wanting to live the life we live where we travel the world and go to the Olympics.” says Ilona Maher.

The Girlboss team is headed to Mexico for Camp Girlboss—our second company-wide retreat. ⤵️ What’s in store? Three days of much-needed (non-cringey) bonding, brainstorming and beach time at the Breathless Riviera Cancun Resort & Spa, an adult-only, all-inclusive seaside paradise. 🌴 Corporate retreats are making a comeback, and companies need to start taking some notes. 👀 “After our last Girlboss retreat, I felt so recharged, energized and full of ideas,” says Liz, Girlboss’ general manager. “I also got to know my colleagues as well-rounded individuals. Study after study shows that well-connected teams that care about one another are more productive, have better workplace satisfaction, stay at organizations longer and generally produce better work. Rest, play, laughter and socializing are all essential parts of an effective team.” More remote teams—like ours—are investing in these excursions for the sake of team bonding and building connections. For example, BoomPop, a start-up that helps plan company offsites and corporate retreats, has worked with 4,000 organizations and 110,000 employees including Google, Meta and Nike, according to an Inc. article. Companies are using the money that they would have used on being in-office—to splurge on a more lavish destination for their corporate offsites, like Costa Rica or Italy. It’s an investment with big payoff, because it allows workers to have the flexibility of remote work while bringing the team together once or twice a year to strengthen that invaluable IRL connection, foster new ideas and celebrate accomplishments. Newsletter platform beehiiv hosted a retreat in Montreal, Canada, in June, and their cofounder and CEO, Tyler Denk 🐝, shared this in his newsletter Big Desk Energy: “The company is only going to go as far as the people take it. It’s my job to provide them opportunities to contribute and grow… and help foster relationships and memories to hopefully last a lifetime.” Want to know more? Tomorrow, our project manager Vanessa will share what it takes to actually plan one of these things on our Girlboss Daily newsletter! 💌 Tap the link below to subscribe! https://lnkd.in/dbztSgGu

Menstrual pain is real pain—full stop. And yet, from a young age, we’re taught to hide our period from public view instead of being encouraged to have open, direct conversations about our cycles and the discomfort, inconvenience and sometimes downright severe pain that comes with them. Follow the link for stories from three women on dealing with menstrual pain—in the workplace, in the doctor’s office and beyond. https://lnkd.in/ggBPasKv

✅ Work tip of the week: In this hyper-competitive job market, cover letters are making a comeback, so here are three things you need to include. Cover letters your first impression before the hiring manager sees your resume, after all. Style Nine to Five career expert Christie Lohr shares how including these components makes every word count. 1. Detail what you can do for the company. Your resume is all about you, so focus your cover letter on the company and what you can offer them. Example: You have 10 years of project management experience—describe how that directly benefits them. 2. Share why you want to work there. Are you a big fan of their products? Do you want to contribute to their cause? Have you admired their brand since childhood? Get personal and share what attracts you to the company—the more authentic, the better. 3. Call the company by name. Rather than using “your company,” mention them by name to show that your application is tailored for them. Aim for three name drops—when detailing why you want to work with them, when summarizing how your skills are a great fit for them, and when expressing your desire to join their team. 📝 Wait, do you even need a cover letter anymore? “Absolutely!” Christie says. Think of how you feel when you get a birthday gift on its own vs. one with a heartfelt hand-written card. The majority of applicants don’t include a cover letter, so it automatically makes you stand out, especially in a world of automation where human connection is increasingly rare. Taking the time to express your passion for the role in a cover letter shows how interested you are and lets you explain how your skillset will translate to on-the-job success, something your resume alone just can’t do. The ultimate cheat sheet on decluttering your digital calendar, by our organization and time management expert, Jésabel DC founder of The Lifestyle Lab ⤵️ 1. How far in advance do you recommend planning out your calendar? ⏩   I have my clients do a weekly planning session where they sit down and plan their week ahead. But when it comes to putting long-term commitments like events, appointments and travel dates, I recommend putting those in your calendar as soon as you know about them. 2. How do you integrate your calendar with your to-do list? 📋   The secret to being in control of your time is by creating a time/task ecosystem.    Here’s how you do it: 👀 View your calendar and your to-do list side by side. 🗂 Create different calendars for the different sections of your life, and separate your to-do list using the same categories. (Mine are Work, Admin, Social and Personal) ⏰ When planning out your day, look at the tasks you have in each category and create batch time blocks to work on similar tasks at the same time. 🖼 Add a photo at the top of your to-do list to make it more playful! 3. How do you keep track of things like birthdays, garbage pick-up, travel dates, etc.? 🎂   I use Notes to keep track of things that aren’t necessarily events, but that I still need to be aware of. Think: birthdays, bill payments, travel dates, trash nights, your period, etc. The way I do this is by adding the "Note" at the top of my calendar (with an emoji, ofc!) Here’s my process:  • I create an all-day event • Change it to my Notes calendar  • Add an emoji + title (in this case, it’s for a birthday)  • Press save! 4. How do you add custom colors into your calendar? 🌈 You can make a cute color palette using Google Calendar’s default colors, but if you want to fully personalize it, here’s what you do:    • Click on the three dots [ … ] next to your calendar  • Click on + Enter your hex code  • Save!   5. Where can I learn how to organize my calendar like this? 👀   It’s all step-by-step in The Life Planner Class! I will teach you the art of time blocking, so you can save 40 hours every month (yes, you read that right—40 hours). I’ll also help you find your perfect time-management system and how to plan your calendar based on the season—or module—of life you find yourself in. There’s much more in the course, but I won’t spoil it for you. There's more where that came from, tap the link below to get signed up for The Life Planner Class! https://lnkd.in/gU9iDdDR

You’ve read every article about the state of dating. You’ve heard your friends’ dating horror stories (and shared some of your own). You’re stuck in an endless cycle of downloading, deleting and (reluctantly) redownloading Hinge, Bumble and Tinder. You’ve even considered quitting dating altogether because you’d rather stay at home than sit through another mediocre date with a man who only talks about himself. But there’s actually never been a better time to be single and we’re calling it now: this summer is for the single girls. Voluntary celibacy is making a comeback (looking at you, Julia Fox), and women are reclaiming power over their love lives by going boy-sober or going old-school by swapping out dating apps for matchmakers, speed-dating and making the first move IRL. That’s why we wrote these five stories to help kick-start your very own Single Girl Summer. From high-achieving women navigating the dating scene, to our Girlboss Daily readers telling us why they’re choosing to be celibate, to even tapping an expert at Tinder to debunk the whole “dating apps are dead” discourse, Single Girl Summer is here. And it’s a hot one. https://lnkd.in/ejuwm9_J

"How do you ask for a raise when you find out that your less-qualified coworker is making more than you?" 😬 Last week, Girlboss' general manager answered this question on Girlboss Daily (if you're not yet subscribed, you're missing out!). And the answer? Use it to fuel your next salary negotiation, let's break it down: 👥 Talk to your manager: You have to address it right away, otherwise you'll grow to resent your work and become unhappy. 🙋♀️ Keep it about you, not your coworker. Your coworker's salary is just the catalyst, you need to negotiate for yourself and what you believe you're worth! 📈 Lean on concrete performance data to quantify your contributions. Share key wins and any additional responsibilities you've taken on recently. Put it in writing and schedule your meeting. Don't use "I feel underpaid compared to [your coworker] and it's not fair." Negotiations happen in two stages. You negotiate with yourself first before you even have that conversation with your boss. Here are some questions to ask yourself: "What do I need?" "What's hard for me about asking for a raise?" "What support do I need to make myself feel more prepared?" "How have I done something like this successfully before?"
