Responsibilities in the project included reviewing and documenting the process flow for the embarkation/ disembarkation of ammunition from the existing jetty facility to Canadian Forces Ships and the material handling equipment deployed in these processes. Thru a Design Charette and Site Visits data and interviews were realized enabling a process flow analysis to be completed on the existing conditions and understand how material handling equipment is deployed. An extensive documentation review was completed to understand the Canadian Forces Fleet Requirements - size of vessels, ammunition storage on ships, loading positions, civilian and military personnel roles and responsibilities, timing of process steps, safety handling requirements, evolution of needs, and existing process challenges.
Working with the AMECFW Design Team proposed jetty configurations were conceptually designed and reviewed using the process flow mapping to identify process improvements given different jetty configuration options and presented to the client. A decision matrix was prepared to identify and make recommendations on configurations including proposed jetty deck sizes to respond to the evolution of the Canadian Forces Fleet Requirements.Other creators -

A talented team of Engineers-in-Residence developed and implemented the inaugural Engineering Design Expo for Dalhousie University Faculty of Engineering that took place on April 1, 2014. The Expo features 75 Senior Capstone Projects from the 4th Year Engineering Undergraduate Students presented in poster format. The students orally present their projects to a team of industry judges who score the visual and oral presentation and an award is given for the best project in each engineering discipline.
The Design Expo has become an annual event returning on March 31, 2015 and March 22, 2016.
The Expo was opened to the general public and had good media attention for its first year. Local print, electronic and television media are regular attendees covering the stories of the students and the public reaction to the projects.
Not only is the Expo a good opportunity for the students to gain public exposure, but Dalhousie University also enjoys this opportunity to invite the general public to visit the campus and learn what the engineering students are studying and what they are developing as skills to meet the challenges that need to be addressed to improve infrastructure and respond to the needs of the general public.Other creators -
