Genesis has officially confirmed when it will put its high-performance GV60 Magma electric crossover into production.

At this stage the luxury brand aims for production of the GV60 Magma to commence in the third quarter of 2025, ahead of it going on sale in its home market next year.

A local launch of the Magma performance sub-brand still hasn’t been locked in for Australia, though Genesis Australia CEO Justin Douglass said he’s keen to see them on local roads.

“What truly sets our heart racing is the forthcoming range of high-performance Magma models, led by the production version of the GV60 Magma concept,” said Mr Douglass in April.

“We’re incredibly excited by the Magma’s potential in Australia, given the country’s affinity for high-performance luxury vehicles.

“Whilst we’re working diligently to secure Magma for Australia, it’s a tad too early to confirm but rest assured we’re leaving no stone unturned.”

“I think [the Magma sub-brand] would resonate very well in our market.”

We’re yet to see what the production version of the Genesis GV60 Magma will look like, though it will apparently “closely resemble the concept model” and have “necessary modifications made to comply with regional regulations”.

Genesis revealed the GV60 Magma concept earlier this year as part of a quartet of bright orange Magma concepts.

It features exterior tweaks such as wider wheel arches, a new front bumper, a rear diffuser and rear spoiler, as well as performance brakes, and sticky semi-slick tyres around 21-inch aero-disc wheels.

Not all the changes are cosmetic either, with Genesis claiming the front air intakes help its batteries, allowing it to go harder for longer.

A recently spied prototype indicated the GV60 Magma may share much with the high-performance Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, which rides the same E-GMP platform.

The GV60 Magma prototype was spotted riding on Ioniq 5 N wheels housing N-branded brakes behind it.

It’s unclear if the GV60 Magma and Ioniq 5 N will share electric powertrains. The Ioniq 5 N has 478kW of power and 770Nm of torque, while the existing GV60 Performance produces 360kW and 700Nm.

The Genesis GV60 Magma concept will make its dynamic debut at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, competing in the Shootout Sunday.

The G80 EV Magma Concept and G70 Track Taxi Nordschleife will also make their dynamic debuts at the event, plus the GV80 Coupe Concept will also be running up the hill over the weekend.

At the company’s main stand it will display the GV60 Magma Concept, G80 Magma Special, and X Gran Berlinetta Concept, as well as the regular GV60, Electrified GV70 and Electrified G80.
