Australian cruise passengers are increasingly seeking out European summer sun, with a 60% year on year increase in winter sailings in the Mediterranean – could this become the new peak season? MSC Cruises Australia Managing Director, Lisa Teiotu joined fellow industry leaders to discuss current trends and forecasts, at Travel Daily’s Travel24 conference in Sydney, ‘Charting Tomorrow’s Travel Landscape’. Key discussions during Lisa’s panel ‘Riding the Wave of Ocean Cruising’ included the growth of multi-generational travel, the lower age of cruise passengers, desire for a more interactive travel experience and environmental issues the industry is working to overcome. We’re reducing fleetwide emissions by up to 15% in 2026, thanks to OptiCruise, our new itinerary planning optimisation tool ⬇   Developed in collaboration with OPTIMeasy and part of the EU-funded CHEK project, OptiCruise will enhance our fleet's efficiency by considering factors like port sequencing, ship speed, and operational costs.    The tool’s algorithms use data to identify optimised itineraries, which continue to appeal for guests, while allowing for energy efficiency. MSC Cruises is fully committed to a collaborative approach that leverages knowledge and technology from both inside and outside the cruise and wider shipping industry, to accelerate the maritime transition to a low-carbon alternative fuel future.   To help foster unified thinking and action, our Sustainability and Government Affairs colleagues joined 70 other cruise and maritime leaders at a Decarbonisation Summit in Florida this weekend, to ‘take action together’.   During a series of panels, roundtables and workshops, conversation focused on key areas including policy, technology development, alternative fuel opportunities and challenges, and emissions reduction.   Our Chief Energy Transition Officer Michele Francioni and Bud Darr, MSC Group Executive Vice President, Maritime Policy and Government Affairs, led discussions on what more needs to be done to support a clear, unified, industry pathway to zero greenhouse gas emissions.   It was inspiring to have brought so many respected industry colleagues together to collaboratively solve some of the biggest issues facing cruising today. #MSCCruises #Leadership #Sustainability
