Several homes were destroyed in a 1,150-acre wildfire that ignited Saturday in eastern Arapahoe County amid a stretch of record-setting high temperatures in Colorado.

Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown said a total of eight structures were affected by the blaze, but he didn’t know Saturday afternoon how many of those were homes and how many were secondary structures. The sheriff’s office, however, posted on social media that multiple homes had burned.

First responders were called to 2400 block of South Quail Hollow Road in Byers at about 10 a.m. on reports of a fire.

The fire was contained at about 3 p.m. with the help of fire departments from across the Denver metro area. Planes and helicopters also helped douse the flames.

“The Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office investigation team, as well as fire department investigators, will be working to determine the origin of this fire,” Brown said at a news conference.

No one was hurt in the fire, Brown said.

Brown said area farmers responded to the fire to protect structures and help their neighbors escape the fire.
