Info
The NDC Partnership brings together more than 200 members, including more than 115 countries, developed and developing, and more than 80 institutions to create and deliver on ambitious climate action that help achieve the Paris Agreement and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Governments identify their NDC implementation priorities and the type of support that is needed to translate them into actionable policies and programs. Based on these requests, the membership offers a tailored package of expertise, technical assistance, and funding. This collaborative response provides developing countries with efficient access to a wide range of resources to adapt to and mitigate climate change and foster more equitable and sustainable development. This page is administered by the NDC Partnership Support Unit, based at World Resources Institute in Washington and the UNFCCC in Bonn. Visit our website at www.ndcpartnership.org.

Francophone Africa faces significant climate challenges, including extreme weather events like droughts and floods. Still, the region receives significantly less #ClimateFinance compared to others. From 2021-2022, Africa received only USD 50 billion in climate finance versus the USD 607 billion directed to Asia. This underscores the urgent need for increased funding to address specific adaptation needs in the region. However, unlike mitigation projects, which often have clear returns, adaptation efforts demand a thorough understanding and quantification of local impacts, which makes securing finance more challenging. At a recent workshop in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, organized by the NDC Partnership, in collaboration with Climate Action Africa , regional experts examined challenges and strategies for increasing access to adaptation finance. This initiative is part of a six-session regional capacity-building series that aims to equip countries with essential skills to mobilize #adaptationfunding. Learn more ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eWAgehe9

As we approach 2030 and 2050, transforming our global energy system to a cleaner and more inclusive one is critical. This transformation must address global #energyaccess deficits, especially in key regions like Sub-Saharan Africa. The upcoming #NDC revision cycle will be essential for countries to establish clear, measurable targets for electrification, clean cooking, energy efficiency and #renewableenergy production and finance. Aligning these revisions with #SDG7 priorities can help ensure that these targets are elevated and implemented. In our webinar "Raising Ambition on SDG7: Leveraging Energy Compacts for Updated NDCs," hosted by UNDP and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), we discussed innovative strategies to enhance energy commitments within NDCs, align with SDG7 priorities and showcase how these NDCs can act as investment plans for the private sector. The Readiness Support for Greening Central Banks initiative helps equip central banks and financial supervisors in developing countries like #Georgia to safeguard and promote green investments. As part of the initiative, the National Bank of Georgia, with support from the European Investment Bank (EIB), developed a climate risk scenario tool to assess how climate change might impact the national economy. Now, the National Bank of Georgia, with support from the EIB, will undertake stress testing to inform new policy and regulatory measures. In parallel, the project is directly supporting financial institutions in understanding climate change risks and opportunities and preparing for national and international supervisory mechanisms. At the 2024 NAP Expo, countries took stock of progress on adaptation planning and implementation. UNDP highlights key opportunities identified related to mobilizing #ClimateFinance for NAP and NDC implementation. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eaiG5WZp #NDCs 3.0 are a chance for countries to align their NDCs and NAPs, enhancing adaptation ambition. 🇧🇩 Bangladesh recently developed its NAP, which can guide the implementation of adaptation components of #NDCs. Innovative funding approaches are key to addressing the gap in adaptation finance. By implementing a tourism green tax, the 🇲🇻 Maldives generates income for its national climate change fund. Local communities play a crucial role in effective climate adaptation. 🇲🇿 Mozambique is integrating climate change into local development plans in line with NAP priorities.
