In the limelight: July adds four new products to our portfolio 2024 marks a year of major upgrades to our product portfolio. July was no exception. It brought novelties to not only one, but two model ranges. Besides the new #Porsche Panamera GTS and Turbo S E-Hybrid, the automotive world welcomes the new Macan and Macan 4S. While this shows the diversity of our product range, our employees participated in this month's Christopher Street Day (CSD) showcasing how diverse our workforce is. What are you waiting for? E-Performance pioneer At the Geneva Motor Show in March 2010, #Porsche presented the prototype of a breathtaking super sports car: the 918 Spyder. The concept car combined high-tech racing technology and electromobility in a dazzling spectrum of capabilities: on the one hand, the 918 Spyder was able to glide almost noiselessly through the city without local emissions. On the other hand, it offered the driving performance of a super sports car. The prototype was also the first plug-in hybrid from Porsche to offer a glimpse of the charging technology of the future. Due to an overwhelmingly positive response from the public, the board decided to go ahead with series development that same year. The project team only needed three years of development time to complete the first series 918 and officially present it at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt in autumn 2013. With its broad spectrum of capabilities, from all-electric driving over longer distances to uncompromising tuning for the track, tailor-made driving modes and powerful recuperation, the 918 Spyder still serves as a technology platform for the modern, performance-oriented hybrid drives that Porsche has been offering for the Cayenne and Panamera model lines since 2017. „Einen wesentlichen Teil eines solchen Fahrzeugs gestalten und beeinflussen zu dürfen, ist ein absolutes Privileg!“ Seit 2016 ist Christian Wolfsried ein wichtiger Teil unsere Porsche-Familie in Weissach. Eingestiegen als Fahrwerksapplikateur hat er die Fahrdynamik und das Torque Management des damals noch geheimen vollelektrischen Taycan abgestimmt. Hauptaugenmerk war es einen echten Porsche auf die Straße zu bringen und die Vorteile des Elektroantrieb, mit je einer autarken E-Maschine pro Achse, zu nutzen. Dank seiner technischen Qualifikationen und seiner Fähigkeiten am Steuer war Christian nicht nur maßgeblich an der Entwicklung des Taycan beteiligt. Er testete die Prototypen auch auf verschiedenen Testgeländen, Erprobungsfahrten und Rennstrecken. „Im Team an etwas gänzlich neuem zu arbeiten und offen an die Herausforderungen ranzugehen war eine tolle Zeit und dieses Mindset hilft mir noch heute.“ 2020 wechselte Christian dann in die Projektleitung Fahrsystem in der Baureihe Limousinen und verantwortet seither die technische Definition der Anforderungen für Fahrwerk, Fahrsysteme und Fahrerassistenzsysteme des Taycan. Ein Traumjob wie er findet, denn ihn treibt besonders das „immense Potenzial der E-Mobilität im Bereich Umweltschutz, aber auch der Fahrspaß im Alltag und der Rennstrecke“ an. Top secret: our prototype parking garages in our development centre in Weissach. From the outside, they look like ordinary parking garages - but what's inside is all the more spectacular. Around 1,500 #Porsche development vehicles can be found in our three prototype parking garages in Weissach and Hemmingen. Among them are real treasures and, above all, the future of automotive technology - from system carriers and construction stage vehicles to pre-series vehicles. A Turbo from Zuffenhausen represents a combination of experience and success, performance and everyday usability. Every Turbo embodies all the victories that Porsche has celebrated on the racing tracks of the world. Over the next five and a half months, #Porsche has a new special exhibition – ‘Beyond Performance. 50 Years of Porsche Turbo’ – to honour the anniversary. Running until 12 January 2025, the Porsche Museum is effectively providing a space for stories that inspire courage. Stories about what it means to master challenges and surpass the ordinary, time and again. Stories about the continuous evolution of a timeless classic, about pushing the limits of what is feasible – stories that distinguish a Turbo. At first it was criticised, today it’s legendary: the rear of the #Porsche 911 Carrera RS 2.7 – known as the ducktail. The designers were stunned when they first laid eyes on the new 911, its unique, simple form altered by something wedge-shaped on the tailgate. Even the sales experts tasked with selling 500 units of this 911 Carrera RS 2.7 worldwide had something to say about it: “There’s no way we’ll sell more than a hundred of these.” And it was this hodgepodge of opinion that gave rise to the befitting nickname for the innovative rear spoiler: the ducktail, which is the common term for the elongated back of the waddling waterfowl. “Yeah, it wasn’t exactly meant to be a compliment,” says Tilman Brodbeck, laughing. The aerospace engineer joined Porsche in October 1970 at the age of 26 and worked with Hermann Burst to develop the now-legendary vehicle part. “Back then, the 911 and many other cars were essentially shaped like a wing: flat underneath, curved on top, and tapering to a point at the back,” explains Brodbeck. “A shape like this creates lift.” A physical force the 911 didn’t need in the slightest, as its cornering speeds were already much lower than promised by the engine and chassis.
