Update, 7:30 PM: Its a double for The Affair with Best TV Drama Series win and Ruth Wilson getting the Best Actress TV Drama Award. Onstage, the British actress thanked the HFPA for having her back after her last unsuccessful Globes nomination back during the 2007 Writer’s Strike. “I have to thank everyone at Showtime for giving me a job, thank you,” the actress added, as well as thanking the writers and cast of the series. Wilson made special mention of her co-star Dominic West, a fellow Globe nominee this year. “Dom, your ass is something of great beauty,” she said to laughs. “Do not let anyone tell you otherwise.”
“With this character I was very intent on serving the grief of this character,” Wilson said backstage afterwards of her Alison Bailey role. The series reveals that the character, who has an affair with West’s Noah Solloway, lost her child. “She was in the middle of this grief…it was quite relentless, by the end that was exhausting, but in the same way quite rewarding.”
Also backstage co-creator Sarah Treems talked about how Wilson was a last minute addition to the cast but one they couldn’t do without. “She was so different,” the producer noted. “We wanted someone who was really changeable. That speaks to her talent. If you see a 2-minute reel and think, ‘This women is irreplaceable, then you have to get on your knees and get her to do your show.”
