I hadn't heard about the tattoo thing (don't read the news), but looked it up upon reading this post. Truly beneath contempt. And how appropriate that the mark people are supposed to brand themselves with is a bee -- symbolizing the obliteration of individuality and mindless submission to the media hive-mind. It reminds me of that Black Eyed Peas song where they just repeat "I'm a bee" 100-some times.

@WMJas - Indeed. I suppose an Ant would have been even more appropriate, but perhaps just that bit too close to the truth of things, such that even the modern English might be woken to recognition..

Like the busy Mormons of "the Beehive State" of Utah, industrious 19th Century Mancunians chose the bee as their city's symbol.

The Bible says, "Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler,
Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest."

The ant in Scripture is an honorable creature from whom we all might learn a thing or two. What she or her cousin the bee has to do with this atrocity is beyond me.

Ha! - but the point is not what bees or ants mean to *us*, but what social insects mean to *them* - hive life, docile servility, suicidal devotion to the leader etc.
