Meghan Markle’s 2024 ESPYs Look is Reminiscent of Her Royal Wedding Reception Dress

Meghan Markle’s chosen look for her latest public outing at the 2024 ESPYs was reminiscent of her wedding reception dress by Stella McCartney.

On Thursday evening, Meghan Markle stepped out for the 2024 Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Awards (ESPYs) with Prince Harry, who was honored as the recipient of the Pat Tillman Award for Service. The event at Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre saw the couple dressed in sleek formal looks, with the Duke of Sussex opting for a classic black suit with a white button-up, and the Duchess of Sussex going for a white halter neck dress.

At first glance, the dress may look just like the one she wore to her royal wedding reception in 2018. After wearing a bespoke Givenchy gown by Clare Waight Keller for the ceremony, Meghan had slipped into a custom Stella McCartney dress—a “lily white” creation with a high halter neck and a sweeping train. However, last night’s dress— another custom look, but this time by Oscar de la Renta—came with a cowl neck and slightly off-white hue, making for a relaxed alternative to her gown from the special occasion. Meghan’s glam, too, was not very different from the day of her reception, as the duchess wore her hair pinned back with a middle part for both events. While the mother-of-two wore the Stella McCartney dress with matching white pumps, she went for contrasting black sandals last night.

At the awards ceremony, Prince Harry went on to accept the Pat Tillman Award for Service, which he received for his work with service personnel and veterans done through the Invictus Games ahead of the adaptive sports competition’s 10th anniversary. The ESPYs were also hosted by tennis star Serena Williams, who is a longtime friend of the couple. Earlier that night, Williams took the stage for an opening monologue, where she referred to the couple as “actual royalty”.

“It’s well, actually only pretty often that I get to be in a room with actual royalty, and tonight is no exception,” Williams said. “Prince Harry and Meghan are here. Let’s give it up for them. But please, Harry and Meghan, try not to breathe too much tonight. Because this is my night, and I don’t want to be overshadowed by the accusations that you guys are taking up too much oxygen, okay?” she added as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex laughed from their seats.
