Alan Cumming shares fond memory of hanging out in a walk-in fridge with Liza Minnelli

Alan Cumming is dishing on the time he ended up chilling out in a fridge with Liza Minnelli. 

The Schmigadoon star and Traitors host stopped by Watch What Happens Live to play a game of The Lies Have It with Andy Cohen and Glee alum Darren Criss in which he attempted to trick them with exceedingly outlandish true stories from his life. 

“I have been inside a fridge with Liza Minnelli,” Cumming declared on Thursday night's episode.

To which Cohen immediately shot back, “Have you been inside Liza Minnelli is the bigger question?”

Cumming did not directly respond to that awkward query, but just began to laugh.

Cohen added, “I think he’s definitely been in a fridge with Liza Minnelli.” 

“Absolutely,” Criss agreed. “I think Liza Minnelli’s been in a fridge with you.” 

It was, indeed, true. “Where? In the basement of Club Cumming?” Cohen asked, referring to the New York City bar Cumming partly owns.

“No, in Fire Island,” Cumming replied. “We were doing a concert, and it was the hottest day of the year, and there was one of those walk-in fridges where they keep the beer bottles, and Liza and I were in it to keep cool and she was smoking inside the fridge.”

“That is iconic!” Cohen exclaimed, starting to clap, before Criss added, “I don’t smoke, but I’ve had a cigarette with Liza Minnelli. [That was one of] the cooler moments of my life.” 

Elsewhere in the game, Cumming revealed another true story: that "until very recently" he believed Martha’s Vineyard was owned by Martha Stewart. If only!
