'Spinal Tap' Dances Onto CD-Rom

That inept trio of metalheads who once couldn’t find their way on stage for a concert are now navigating the multimedia route with a two-disc This Is Spinal Tap CD-ROM due out next month from Voyager.

The CD-ROM includes all 82 minutes of their classic 1984 mockumentary, plus additional footage cut for theatrical release, as well as running commentary from Tap’s band members, director Rob Reiner, and others. ”Every rock & roller I’ve ever encountered tells me that Spinal Tap is required watching on a tour bus,” says Reiner. ”Sting told me he had seen it 50 times. And whenever he watched it, he didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.”

The Program’s extra special features? A sophisticated search function that lets you scan for any scenes containing, say, the word vomit, and, of course, a volume knob that goes to 11. Legendary animator Chuck Jones, who brought Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and the Grinch to life, has created new characters for Chuck Jones’ Peter & the Wolf, a CD-ROM due out in November from Time Warner Interactive. Featuring Sergei Prokofiev’s classic score and the voices of Kirstie Alley and Lloyd Bridges, Peter & the Wolf contains 22 minutes of original animation.

Coming soon to a video-game parlor near you: a new Street Fighter arcade game, which uses images from the upcoming action flick Street Fighter, which in turn is based on the arcade series called, uh, Street Fighter. The new game will feature video from the film, so instead of moving an animated figure, players can control a digitized Jean-Claude Van Damme, who in the movie portrays the animated character Guile. Excuse us, we’re getting a little dizzy.
