LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN

LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN Gene Tierney, Cornel Wilde (1945, FoxVideo, unrated, $19.98) As a woman who will do anything-even murder-to keep her man (Wilde), Tierney gives an atypically intense performance. Director John M. Stahl (Imitation of Life) stages her crimes against a backdrop of sunny exteriors and well-appointed interiors, making them seem all the more perverse. Though Leon Shamroy’s Oscar-winning cinematography loses some of its definition on video, particularly in long shots, Heaven remains an elegant study in pathology. B+ -Tim Purtell
