Fountains of Wayne

The anguish-free outfit (named after a landscape decor store in New Jersey) Fountains of Wayne are not likely to make any enemies with this colorful debut album. Their hook-reverent, nice-guy rock has a melodic poignancy reminiscent of mid-’60s Kinks tinged with a postmodern Weezer-esque malaise. As safe, pleasant, and nondescript as a prefab suburban hamlet.
